  1. What exactly are you suggesting? What are you defining as "our pc way of dealing with such situations"? Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos

  4. Now that I put my beer down and reread your post then I read mine and thought...I couldn't agree more! And damn I came off as a dick...sorry. I had no desire to do any kind of Belly flying but the minimum I needed to. Then I went to the tunnel. I shared some time with some belly flyers that blew my mind. I never realized how aggressive RW was when it bas being done well. I then started to notice that the best freeflyers were good belly flyers too. Decided it was time to do a little more of that RW stuff. I havent dedicated much time to it yet (so much good skydiving left to do!) but it's on the agenda for after this season, learn to be a kick ass belly flyer. 5. So...you agree with me? Or are you telling me the same thing I just told him? Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos
  6. These are probably newer freeflyers. You don't need to be able to bust lots of points in time but you need to be able match or greatly change fall rate on your belly AND back. You need to be able to move around and fly your slot. Can you start freeflying without those skills? Sure you can. Do solos or 2-ways with experienced freeflyers just don't forget IT'S ALL FREEFLYING! If your lacking in any orientation...you suck! 8. I have to laugh...LOL...there! I said the same damn thing three years ago. One of my coaches loves to point it out to me every time I slide by him doing a split on the asphalt on my Katana 120 loaded at 1.98. Like everyone above I'll tell ya, do it stupid and you WILL get broken. Do it smart and you might still get broken just not because you were being stupid. Getting the most out of your canopy will save your ass...it's saved mine! I see by your profile you like things that go fast. Let me be the first to welcome you to the wonderful world of swooping Now go get some coaching before you start...I can't wait to remind you of this post someday! Peace! 9. No...my damage goes beyond that. I have an ASO 8 brace I got from my surgeon...he knew I was removing my walking cast to skydive. The lig are all stretched out and require surg fix which I refused, for now (3 months in a cast durring skydiving season....fuck off!). So I wear boots and braces (anyone get that one? OI!). 12. My ankles are jacked up! I wear Vans with a figure 8 brace or DM's (Dr.Martins). As for being able to run, if you think vans are good shoes to run in well.... Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos
  13. NO NO NO!!! Don't take it! You should do your best to avoid it...and do as much collateral damage as possible! Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos
  14. Nearly no altitude loss as in none. Of course I'm not talking about a flat turn which won't help if your cut off while on the deck or nearly there. I didn't describe a climbing turn cause I don't feel qualified to teach it over the internet Dave and Bill however did it for me (two whose advice I probably would take over the internet). Obviously this is a move you want to practice high...a lot, but it has saved my ass twice now and I think everyone should know it! After I took Brians course I figured the thing to learn FIRST in swooping is how to get out of trouble, then learn the rest. 15. First, get a better camera flier Then, go talk to some of the experienced freefliers there at Mile High. You have two new Nor Cal transplants there (Ryan Brownlow and Bill "MX" Hallisey) Both of which are absolutely bad ass fliers. 16. Flat turns are good cause they are low speed. You should...everyone should get some professional canopy coaching. There are methods to turning your canopy 90 even nearly 180 degrees and get it back over your head with nearly no altitude loss. I've done a 90 with my feet on the ground to avoid an accident (Thanks for saving my ass Brian!). 17. Actually, its a national thing, not state by state. 16 years old is the "legal" requirement with parental consent. Most dropzones still wont allow you to jump until you are 18 though, but some few will. Once you are 18 any dropzone will allow you to train there and get your license. Not in California my brother. Here a parent may not legally sign a minors rights away therefore there is no such thing as a valid waiver for a minor in this state. That said...fuck it, Go to Lodi, they will train you up at 16! .....Lodi rocks!

  21. I think, and all you lawyers out there tell me if I got it right, that in this country you just assumed a whole lot of liability. You're basically saying that the person is stable, after all the stated reason for the interview is to establish weather or not the person is suicidal. As for the Terrorist thing...the only way to win that battle is to kill all of them, or get them to not want to fight you. As long as people are willing to hurt themselves more then your willing to hurt them, you've already lost. 22. I think the point was that if you think you can stop it, you're dreaming. If someone is willing to go through all the bullshit to make a first jump, they have planned it out. The decision has been made, this is no cry for help the time for intervention has passed. JUST LIKE if someone is willing to strap explosives to themselves and walk into a crowd and detonate them, this is an individual whose determinations is...daunting. It brings to mind monks and gasoline. I understand that we don’t want to see people die…mostly, but to screen the mental health of the folks who come out to the DZ…Close the doors cause the game is over! You think skydiving has student retention problems now? Your post was funny (I laughed) but it had a lot of truth in it as well. Mental health experts have told me that I am ill; I have been told that I ABSOLUTELY will have psychological problems because of my job…BULLSHIT on both counts! There are no absolutes when it comes to the mind, we don’t know enough to even form the right questions most of the time. Steve1 is right that most of the time it’s guesswork, the witch doctor is probably MORE effective then the psychologist many times because they are comfortable making intuitive leaps of faith, trying to frame behavior in the language of science is silly. Now as for our collective problem, image. People can kill themselves any way they choose, if they mean it there is nothing you can do about it. What can we do to improve our image to the Wuffo public? That’s the question we need to ponder! It sounds as if you are trying and I applaud that, and thank you.
