I knew a Danny Sullivan when I first started jumping in 1994. He lived in Washington St. Big guy, looked like Grizzly Adams. I doubt that Danny I knew was in Playgirl!! The Danny I knew was a VERY GOOD rigger. Dom

Short lived, but sounds like a lot of work!!! Good for you sweety. I hope you enjoy a "normal" job again. Dom

If it was a custom rig, they should have taken partial payment along the way. Then they would have found out that card was stolen before the rig was finished and this wouldnt have happened to them. If it was stock rig that they had on the shelf and it was a one time sale. They should have only sent the rig to the address that matched the credit card. That is what the 3 digits on the back of the card are. If they sent it to a different address that doesnt match the card, then they are S.O.L. Threatening the FBI is hollow. The OP did not commit any type of fraud or steal anything. He is not liable to the gear store. Im not a lawyer, but I did work for a gear store that had things like this happen in the past. After getting burned, they wanted emails and copies CC's and DL's to send to a different address for customers that they didnt know. Dom

Did the dealer out right own the gear? Most dealers I know sell used gear on consignment. They dont actually own the gear. If this gear is on consignment, then the dealer owes the original owner. I dont think they have any legal right to go after the OP. He did nothing wrong. Dom

You are right about the thinning of the herd. No question. But in thinning the herd. How many others are put at risk by the Darwin candidates actions??? I know, I know. Old argument but you get my drift. I just think that people forget, that it is the USPA that is self regulating. Not the individual jumpers. Dom

You have learned a very important lesson. Glad it all worked out in the end!!! I bet you will never be one of the people that say "that could never happen to me" I am sure that before that jump you never thought in a million years that you would forget something so basic as doing up your chest strap. Now..... dont let anyone else do it. Check your buddies on the plane. Be looking out for other problems with yours and others gear. Dont be afraid to say something to a fellow jumper if you dont think it looks right. You may save a life, or learn something in the process. Glad you didnt fall out of your rig!! Dom

John is right. Not much is or can be done about evaluating the entire track and how well a person is getting clear and deploying safely. For the simple fact that tracks are not videoed and the lo's cant see everyone. I good thing about large attempts is that most LO's do have tracking teams and tracking team leaders. One would assume (in know assume) that the "tracking leaders" would be looking for unsafe behavior and tracking habits. Also jumpers should sound off if "jumper xyz" is seen tracking under and across others and making it unsafe. I know I have in the past. As I am sure that many others have. It is a team effort and safety is every ones responsibility. I think that a lot of people forget what "self regulation" is. In my opinion, it is not just taking responsibility for ones self, but looking out for everyone and the sport itself. To help make it safer for us all. Dom

Some of you may have gotten this email like I did, but thought it was funny enough to share......................................... Brian invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal , Brian's mother couldn't help but notice how beautiful Brian's roommate, Jennifer, was. Brian's Mom had long been suspicious of a relationship between Brian and Jennifer , and this had only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening , while watching the two interact , she started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Jennifer than met the eye. Reading his mom's thoughts , Brian volunteered , 'I know what you must be thinking , but I assure you Jennifer and I are just roommates.' About a week later , Jennifer came to Brian saying , 'Ever since your mother came to dinner , I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it , do you?' Brian said , 'Well , I doubt it , but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure. So he sat down and wrote: Dear Mom , I'm not saying that you 'did' take the gravy ladle from the house , I'm not saying that you 'did not' take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Love , Brian ______________________________________________ Several days later , Brian received an email back from his mother that read: ____________________________________________ Dear Son , I'm not saying that you 'do' sleep with Jennifer , I'm not saying that you 'do not' sleep with Jennifer. But the fact remains that if Jennifer is sleeping in her own bed , she would have found the gravy ladle by now. Love , Mom LESSON OF THE DAY - NEVER LIE TO YOUR MOTHER Dom
