tunnel time for Perris Boogie
dgskydive replied to dgskydive's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have acesses to lots of tunnel time at Perris. If you guys are coming for the DZ.com Boogie and are interested in putting together groups let me know. $125.00 for 10 minute blocks with one of the Performance Plus Coaches (Dan B.C., Nina Kubler, Pat McGowan, Andy Delk, Chritsy Frikken just to name a few). The ten minutes includes the coaching. I would like to get at least two groups going. One for the more experienced tunnel rat (2 to 4 ways) and one for the less experienced folks (one on one coaching and maybe 3 ways) It will be limited to 6 people per hour session and 2 or 3 coaches. Might make exceptions for tose on a real tight budget. IF we keep it to 6 per session it seems to work out the best. Pm me for details. For those of you that haven't been in the tunnel before I will explain how it works and how you can actually get a lot more time then just 10 minutes for the 125.00. Dom -

Damn Sparky. If I am not mistaken that is Gypsy Rose back in the day. Haven't seen that ugly paint scheme in years. In fact I can't think of a single pic in the Bombshleter that still has that paint scheme on it. Collectors item. Dom

cutaway charges for rented gear

When my 3-rings where hooked up wrong and I didn't check them before boarding the plane he and Dan B.C. fixed them on jump run for me. How embarrasing is that to have those two fixing shit I should have caught on the ground. Just glad it was I that saw it on my final gear check. Packer hooked it up but it was my fault for not checking his work. Simple fix to that problem. ALWAYS CHECK GEAR ON GROUND, DON'T USE THAT PACKER ANYMORE! I let others now how the packer had hooked it up wrong. This was not done to try and intentionally hurt the packer but so that people would know that the guy is human (despite what he thinks). Honestly this guy still packs out at PErris everyday. One thing that changed after that incident is that he is a bit more humble and is a lot more careful about what he does. Dom -

He is also a Tandem master at Perris. Short guy going bald, round belly. Always wears his ball cap. If you saw him you would know him. He and our recently relocated friend are very good buddies. Dom -

LOL! We can find you a rigger. Try Brett Townley. He is a good guy and a very good rigger as well. Plus you can get Laurie to pick it up and drop it off for you! Shhhhhh Don't tell her I told you the last part. He will even repack your main for free after the repack. Just don't count on it opening!!!!!!!!!! Dom -

You are the exception to the rule! Good for you! That really doesn't surprise me seeing who some of your friends are at the DZ. One of them is (or was) one of the most anal riggers and intructors on the DZ. He also happens to be someone I have known and respected for 10 years. To bad he moved! The offer still stands. If you need help or have a question you come up and ask me. Dom -

It's Packing Cathy. I have had the same idea! I have heard two versions of her guaranty. One said it was good for the reserve repack and the other was that is was good for a new main if it was lost. Don't know which is true.I would be raking up new mains from her if that was the case! Dom -

Once again this is a different topic. Skydiving is about being responsible for yourself (reserves are still different). YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT CANOPY, NOT THE RIGGER! It may not be what you or others want to hear, but that is the fact! Remeber, you can pack a canopy 100% correctly and it may still not open! YOu may close the container 100% correctly and it may stillnot open! You may do everything 100% correctly and it you can still die in this sport! A roffer can control the work the do. They can tell if it is done correctly and even tell you how long there work should last if done correctly. That just can't be done with skydiving. You and I coudl go out and buy the exact same canopy (colors, size, lines). Have them bulit from the same bolt of fabric. They could folloe eachother right off the production line and have consecutive serial numbers. We could have the exact same wing loading and jump them for the first 60 jumps together and on the 61st jump yours could just explode on opening. I have seen this type of thing happen. This is a HIGH RISK SPORT! Nothing is guarenteed! Everything you read or sign in this sport tells you that! You may die even if you do it all right! Sorry if this doesn't make sense to you but it is the way it is. Please don't take any of what I wrote as an attack against you or your way of thinking. I am just trying to open your eyes to the truth of skydiving and how you should approach it. Think of packers as a luxury that may or may not be a good idea. Dom -

Just making the offer. If you still weren't real sure about it I will help. Jimmy and them teach a lot of people how to pack at Perris and when they reach the up jumper side they swear they still don't know how. I don't think is Jimmy and Doreen not teaching. I think it is people knowing that they can pay a packer and don't make an honest effort to retain the info. If you are good to go then GREAT! Just wanted to be helpful. Dom -

That is why we don't just let anybody pack our rental gear at Perris. We try and be real sure about who is packing our mains for customers. That is why are Canadian friend isn't allowed to pack SQ1 gear. The fact of the matter is that you are only paying for a pack job. No opening is a sure thing! Watch out for #1. There is only one packer i know of that guarantees an opening and that person is just playing the odds. One day it will bite them in the ass. Dom -
Take a road trip. Come to the DZ.com Boggie in May and see Team Extreme. They will be happy to take you up and see how you are doing. Also, take charge! If you can get a big enough group of folks together they may travel to you! Dom

They don't want the truth if they don't want to hear that. I commend Ian for helping the guy, but agree with him that the guy is a D.G.I.T. How can they be all ears when you can't tell them the real truth. They shouldn't be doing it in the first place. It is a case of people having their cake and eating it. Show him the right way by pulling his cutaway handle, get him a bigger canopy and take the time to do it RIGHT. This guy knows he is wrong or he would have been at his home DZ jumping that canopy. It just amazes me that everyone things they are bullet proof. I guess it shouldn't because I used to be the same way. Maybe new jumpers should sit through a video kinda of like "Blood on the Asphalt" from Drivers Ed. We could call it "Dumbass New Jumpers that think they are different the the Rest". Or if they want that new X-Brace at 200 jumps, They must have stood over 5 people that got all broke up by doing the same thing. New jumper sees and hears all the pain they will rethink their actions. Dom

Saw that first pic on the BlueSkies website. Is that your home DZ? I learned how to jump there when the Pines owned it. Tell Dewey I said Hello and Bill and Clay and Lori. Dewey was just here at Perris last week, I hadn't seen him in 8 years or so. Same ole Dewey. Got him in the air for his first jump at Perris. Felt good to see him and get a jump with him after all those years. Dom

dgskydive replied to flyuphi99's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That is why I said it is a different topic. You have no choice but to trust a rigger to pack your reserve. You have to put your life in there hands. Unless of course you want to get your riggers ticket. Most of us are not going to take that time and effort to get one. You are forced into trusting a rigger. You do have the choice when it comes to your main. People get lazy and don't want to pack for themselves. I am guilty as much as the next guy. But if something goes wrong it is on me. They are asking for trouble buy doing that. Stupid in my book. If something is wrong with it people will try and get out of paying their money. It wouldn't be the DZ's fault but some asshole will say since the DZ packed it they should be held responsible. Would you try and get away with out paying for a lost main as a result of the cutaway on their pack job? Only if you let it be a loss. Ask someone how to hook it up. It is really simple! Seriously..... a 5 year old can do it. That is the thing. A packers job is to pack the canopy. That is what he does. He is not responsible if it doesn't open. Plan and simple. You are paying for a pack job not an opening. Some said earlier that Cypress quarantees openings. NOT! Neither does a packer! They try and do there best because they want you to come back and pay them more money. The bottom line is that you are respponsible for your life and equipment! No pack job is a sure thing. Even if you pack it perfect everytime, it can still malfunction! As far as Doctors go. Hey they give you odds on Surgery! Even there work is not a for sure thing. They can do everything right and you can still die! Dom -

By Wed. the main would have more then likely trashed. If winds started blowing or maybe it is in a tree and an animal decides to eat it? That does happen. Buddy of mine had his main land in a horse paddock. The horse ate a bunch of it before they got there and took it away. I have walked in the woods until after midnight looking for a cutaway main. I have chopped down BIG trees to get a main out of it! Business isn't always fair. They didn't make you jump or rent gear from them. They had what you wanted and you willingly went to them to use it. I think you are looking a gift horse in the mouth. Do you realize how much of a luxury it is to have gear store that even has gear for you to rent? Most Dz's don't even have a gear store let alone rental Gear. Most have something for new jumpers to rent but it ragged out student gear. They live off of that student gear. Sounds like you knew the gear store very well. I bet it wasn't a surprise when they said you had to replace anything you lost. Sounds a bit like maybe you thought they would forget about it or cut you some slack because you had been a customer before. Sounds like they are trying to run there business and stay open. Dom -

Completely different topic. Reserves are packed by Certitfied riggers. They are held accountable if they fuck up the pack job. Ask a rigger if they worry about someone going in on one of there pack jobs. They are very concerned in most cases about it. They don't want you to die and they make damn sure they pack them right. I know riggers make mistakes. They are human. But for the most part they are responsible and take care of us. THanks to riggers! Don't take the chance. Pack it yourself. If you don't know how, then LEARN! It pisses me off when I see a jumper that can't pack. I will say that I think it is not very smart for a gear store to give out a packed rig for rent if the people that are packing it are customers. The guy may have been form another state and left and is never coming back. Maybe he didn't think it important enough to unstow the slider or stow the brakes. At Square1 we rent it out unconnected. You have to hook it up and pack it up. This means everything, including the D-bag and Pilot Chute. You hand it to some people and they look at you like they never saw a parachute that wasn't hooked up. These are people with sometimes hundreds of jumps. Good God people get a clue! Learn about your gear. Be a big boy (or girl). You learned how to tie your shoes didn't you folks? Learn how to hook up and pack a rig. Do it for yourself for awhile. Hell you will even be able to jump more,, because you are saving money. Dom
