WOW! Responses to BOD notes posting
skybytch replied to MikeTJumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I can see the point Mike makes about the frequency of ad hominem arguments here, especially in the so-called topical forums. I know quite a few people who wouldn't even consider posting here because of the things they've read, not because they've been attacked themselves. -
I know nothing about the aircraft but AFAIK the Yolo DZ was at the Yolo County Airport outside Davis, California (current home of Skydance Skydiving). I could be wrong, of course.

WOW! Responses to BOD notes posting
skybytch replied to MikeTJumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No reason why it would have to be set up or maintained by USPA staff. I'm sure there are plenty of web savvy members who would be capable of doing so and willing to volunteer their time. According to the list of BOD member contact info in this month's Parachutist all of them have email addresses. If they can manage to check their email I'd think they could find a way to read what members have to say on a USPA forum. If not, perhaps members should consider that when voting in the next election. -
WOW! Responses to BOD notes posting

Perhaps a highly moderated forum on the USPA website specifically for USPA related issues would solve that problem. They knew that was the case when they ran for the office... -

Congrats! We've got a lot of similar memories.

If you've ever been out the sport a while with an injury...
skybytch replied to Orange1's topic in The Bonfire
I was out for 8 months after back surgery, 6 of those off work. Basically I did most of what GFD said except for the online poker thing. Instead of poker I got real into a 3d chat site (Cybertown - it was free back then but costs $$ now) but any of the mmpg's (Ultima Online, Ever Crack, etc) would do just as well. Pain meds are good for helping you not give as much of a shit. So is the sticky stinky green stuff if you're into that. Getting out of the house once or twice a week while you're non-mobile is vital. Counting the holes in the ceiling gets old real fast. Make someone take you for drives that don't end at a doctor's office. -
Yeah, once you've got the odds figured out it's doesn't take much brain power. I usually do pass line with odds, then place the 6 and 8. If I'm doing well I'll drop a 2 way hard 6 or 8 if it's the point; take care of the dealers and they treat ya real good. I like craps cuz pretty much everybody on the table is betting the same way - ie on the come out roll everyone wants to see 7 or 11. It's way more social than the other games since you're not betting against each other. Dammit, now I really want to take a trip to Reno...

Why not? Experiment with your canopy and all of it's controls as often as possible - that's how you learn. Just don't do it below your decision altitude.

What makes an experienced skydiver?
skybytch replied to droquette's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Have you ever been on a record attempt? Have you ever been in the air with 150+ canopies? The stress level for each jumper on a record attempt is pretty high, especially if it's the first time you've been on one. Add in 150+ other canopies in the air with you and that stress level goes up. Then add in the fact that the air in Perris can be less than ideal for canopy flight when it's hot, especially if you aren't used to it, and the fact that many of those women came from sea level dropzones and you might begin to understand why some people's landings were less than perfect. There was a lot more going on there than on your average freefly jump out of one Otter. -
4557 according to Itunes.

2, 8, 15, 27, 42, 50. I expect 25% as a thank you. Put your hands down the front of your pants. Cup your balls with your left hand. Scratch them with your right hand. You might want to trim your fingernails first though.

That's an easy problem to solve. Quit. Anything else I can help you with today?

What makes an experienced skydiver?
skybytch replied to droquette's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree with this statement. At 100 jumps a skydiver has only begun to scratch the surface of this sport. Of course there are exceptions (the "naturals," those who've dropped bucks at a wind tunnel and/or those who have prior air sports experience), but at 100 jumps most skydivers are still working on learning the basics of body and canopy flight. That's not my definition of experienced. But I don't think there is a magic number of jumps that makes you experienced either. It depends on the experience level of the person observing. To someone with 5 jumps a person with 50 can seem to be experienced, but to a person who's done 5000 jumps? Probably not. -
From my experience doing jury duty one time, I'd say that's true. The only time I've had to show up for jury duty I got put in the pool for the penalty phase of a capital murder case. They had all of us fill out a long questionaire that asked our opinions on the death penalty and about our knowledge of the case being tried. For whatever perverse reason, I wanted to be on that jury; although my replies were truthful I did slant them a bit so I'd appear impartial. It worked. Spent a couple of months sitting on that jury. While I'd rather not do it again, I'm glad I did. It exposed me to the judicial system (something I had little experience with) and to the world of the violent criminal/prison inmate (something I had no experience with). I learned that neither one of them is a world that I ever want to live in...

That's why you shouldn't play the slots. Craps is where the money's at.

I think they skydive for the same reasons women do. Because it's fun.

Fly to Survive, Femur is Not a Verb DVD, poster
skybytch replied to peek's topic in Safety and Training
That was my first comment after watching it - they spent our dues (ie our money) on this?? I'm really, really hoping that it was 100% paid for by the sponsors... -
If you're at 10k and low on a formation you should work on getting back up to the formation (without going under it) and staying where everyone else can see you until whatever breakoff altitude was decided on. Then you should track away and pull. Plan the dive and dive the plan.

I think you're missing the point. Just because one guy is getting paid that much does not mean that YOUR sperm is that valuable.
