Now hands up who has never used one of those on-line rig/canopy/Jumpsuit designers to make the most horribly gay, pastel shaded items that are garanteed to get you beaten up in the play ground. no one... no I thought not... WE have all done that right? Never thought anyone would actually go ahead and order one though

What does anyone think of the Skypimp Helmets? Whilst the website is fairly poor, their helmets look like they incorperate some nice design features and I've heard that they are very well made. Im not sure about the right hand mounting for their camera's though, opinions? Has anyone got any first hand experiance with these helmets, their build quality or design? Im interested but its the usual skydiver problem of the product being a couple of thou miles away from the customer. Cheers

Skydiving stats. for an essay
mr2mk1g replied to Skydiver40TN's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thats right, the USPA has no record of any NON-USPA skydiver ever dieing in a skydiving accident.... cynics suggest this may be connected to the USPA’s policy of only recording USPA fatalities… I however, prefer to avoid risking my life with membership of this obviously dangerous fraternity. -
What do you tell people that say Skydiving isnt a sport?

There's a big old para at one of the DZ's I jump at. If you flick through his log book, "Fell Out, Landed, Lived" jumps about the page.

Mines under my home insurance policy so check with them first (if you insure home and contents). They didn't know squat so I just told em how I wanted them to insure it and they did as I said. I have several in my house (club kit and housmates) and all were covered automatically up to a £1500, but I listed mine seperately so I could value it at £3500. Make sure you insure the main as a seperate item from the reserve, container and cypres. This means if the whole thing is stolen you have to pay two excesses as its two items... but if you cuttaway and lose the main, its covered. I have heard of problems in the past where a main is lost and someone tries to claim, the insurance co simply say its "one item" and you still have "the item", its just "missing a bit". The reserve, container and cypres can be one item as.... well if you do something that fucks them.... well you probably wont really care then.

this is exactly what you get in england. There is always a designated student landing area... generally a long way off (well why the hell should we walk?) Then there is also the exp landing area. Over the past year or so several dropzones have brought in a rule that leaves jumpers who have their B license but less than 500-800 jumps (depending on DZ) without a designated landing area. The Students have one, the 800+ jumpers have one... and everone else can land anywhere they want other than the exp area... in practice they land as close to the manifest area as pos to save a walk. Its not quite the same as seperating swoopers from everyone else but it can only have a positive effect.

how about people who post a pick and say "look at this, isnt this funny". You open the pic at work and there's some girls chuf staring your boss in their face.... Hell people, dont you know what NSFW means... its there for a reason.... I mean, its one thing if the attachment's labled "donkey_dick" or something but where its "00011dsp" or some other auto labled bit of smut it really takes the biscuit....

Another option is to take on whats happening at a lot of UK DZ's now. They have an "experianced landing area". The definitions of "experianced" I've encountered is anywhere between 500 - 800 jumps. By god do you catch hell if you land in the wrong area...

Happy to stand corrected on the letter of the law... you know its gonna be a damnd unusual case to have a CCI go to those lengths for you though.

How oftern do you practice your Reserve drills?
mr2mk1g replied to bluegremlin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
before, when Im gearing up, on the way to the plane, in the plane, just before I jump. we all do them all the time, its not just students. -
Tonto's comparison is possibly the most accurate one yet... time spent in skydiving vs time spent driving. If you add it up like that you get to see which is more dangerous. The only alterations I would make are that you should include time spent in the plane going to altitude (eg 18 killed in Russia earlier in the year when a let410 fell appart) and time spent at the landing area itself (eg 1 killed at netheravon a couple of months ago when hit by a swooper). these are two periods where you are still exposed to the increased risk of skydiving. Time on the actual DZ I do not think counts. Whilst carries a slightly increased risk (if in doubt check an insuance policy, many are voided the moment you step onto an airfield) time on the DZ in spectator areas is more analogous to time spent as a pedestrian.

Small or aggressive canopy, no experience, grounded.
mr2mk1g replied to Jimbo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dude... that would mean your friend was about 120lbs out the door or about 95 lbs... When I said he's a skinny fuck I really ment it. I remember joking with him that I loaded my student 210 more than him on his 135. He's such a skinny bitch he's had two collapsed lungs for no particular reason and I aint even joking. Thats why it was so pissing funny when the CCI told him he was "not the lightest of guys". -
You also have to have a minimum of 2 years in the sport and be sponsored by the CCI (somethimes the hardest bit).

too right... .fucking repost police... No one cares... everyone just thinks the repost police are sad....

L&B products (protrack/prodytter) are listed in the insturction manual as being 120 db.

there has to be something in the fact that this person would not be allowed to instruct shit in the UK

I would be supprised if any DZ had an upper limit on the size of canopy you could fly. There are no national rules on this so any restriction would be down to the individual DZ.... you'll have to ask. I'll warn you now though, most people will tell you you're crazy. They will expect you to be on a canopy that is similar in square footage to your weight (with gear) in lb. So long as your jump something that is slightly larger than you weigh there is no real safety increase in jumping something huge... there may even be safety issues. For example, if you are jumping some goliath canopy then any small winds could effectively ground you as you simply will not be able to make any headway against them. Go down to your local DZ, chat to them. They are the only ones who can answer your question about if you can jump the canopies you want. They may be able to give you some useful info on how civi canopies fly and allay any worries you may have about them.
-
just so long as they did it so that they could use it as a heli-pad I don't think the jumpers would complain

new to the sport, swooping?
mr2mk1g replied to blueskyserenity's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sorry marianne, I think you might get the point after all that... (sheesh out of one simple question)... Everyone's just trying to make sure you or any one else doesnt get themselves hurt or worse by trying something thats basically a high risk advanced manouevre. -

check out :Glossary Health and saftey say: dont try to swoop yet -
got one and made it for myself. My mate has one off his container he put 100 jumps on b4 converting to twin pin teflon... guess his really means something (not that mine doesnt to me). We award each of our students in our club a pin on attaining their A licence. Its a real award for them and a symbol that they've graduated to a fully fledged jumper. Those pins are really important to them.
