  1. I had that exact same scenario... except it was a 3 way FF. And yes, I jumped. I still had my primary (eyes) and tertiary (dytter) altimeters so why worry too much about having forgotten my secondary.
  2. What he said - I would definitely recommend the FF handle (AKA pud in other companies). Its designed differently to most in that instead of sticking out from the BOC basically like a square hacky, it slips under the bridal routing flap so it covers the mouth of the BOC. As its tightly stuffed under a flap, it cannot oscillate in the air flow, (some fear this will tend to work your pilot chute out). Its also very difficult to accidentally catch and it serves as a kind of trap door to the mouth of the BOC protecting you from a premie. As for Cordura or spandex... I think its personal taste; I heard good about both but went with spandex.
  3. Yeah I've seen it. And Ivan, your slipping up - its been posted at least once to my knowledge, lots of people had seen it and laughed about it, and you missed it!!! (I think its tunes)
  4. The legs were about a fiver each from B&Q - the wall bolts are arround 50p each so if you have a drill you could whack one up for about £7.50. There are probably a lot of easier ways of doing it though - this is more permanent and looks 70% cooler.
  5. Heck I'd have to bolt up another rung on the rig-rack... but visiting skydivers are always welcome on the sofa if they find themselves in Bristol over night. The attached pics are our rig-rack
  6. These are all in PAL and you'd want NTSC anyway (unless you're looking for the lenses). But you should be able to pick up Kenko lenses in the states for $30. And camera's are cheep enough out there too... these deals only bring us in line with the US prices(ok so maybe they're a little cheeper).
  7. Do I have to be fingerprinted when we enter America at Easter? What makes the Brazilians so special?? How come you want a momento of their visit but don't think im important enough to warrant a momento??
  8. I live with 2 other skydivers and we store 2 rigs belonging to our uni skydiving club too so we generally have arround 6 or 7 rigs arround the house. I went to our local DIY store and bought some tubuar steal table legs. They had ready made brackets at the top so I bolted them straight onto the wall with some large wall bolts. A shelf above holds helmets, the other corner has a clothing rail with jump suits on... and hey presto - our living room looks like a DZ shop, all nice and homely. When my housemate sold his old canopy the guy who came to collect it thought we were running a kit store. I'll post a pick of my rigrack later if I get the chance.
  9. this one doesnt - the one in milton keynes does though... thus the competition
  10. http://www.jessops.com/shop.cfm There is a very good search engine on line - look for seccond hand (usually meaning ex display in "as new" condition) dv cameras. They have a nice policy of shipping any product between stores free so you can go to your local store to look at the camera before buying. I think you might have to ring the store to get the price but the ones I've seen are all in the £300 - £400 bracket. The lenses I mention are new. edit: try using this search: clicky
  11. Just seal the pilots off. Design planes like taxi cabs so there's no way of getting from the back into the front unless your parked up. No bugger's gonna take over that plane. So the pilot can't screw the stewardess - but hey, they get to do enough of that on the ground.
  12. The last I heard on the Milton Keynes one was that they were still a couple of mil short of their investment target. Unless they got it they will not be going ahead. I also suspect they won't be able to match the price this one offers either as they have to build from scratch. The one in Bedford only has to renovate MOD buildings. Given the announcement that Bedford one is going ahead I wonder if they Milton one will even get off the ground... if they do I worry if there will be enough buisness to keep them both working - Milton and Bedford are too close for comfort and I think 1 is all the UK market can handle. It would be a shame to see two open and then drive each other under.
  13. talk has but i've not seen the link before. Thats an awsome diagram comparing its size to other tunnels... at at over 150mph! Nice to think that the UK will be leading the world in wind tunnles from aug... at least for a while. And £6 a minute - sweetos!
  14. Jessops are selling all their 37mm conversion lenses at half price making them £12.49 each! These are Kenko lenses re-branded as "Jessops" and come with stepper rings. They have a selection (0.42, 0.5 and x2.0). (I got lucky last night and found a really stupid assitant who gave me a 50% mark down on the already reduced lenses so I got two at £6.24 each). I thought I'd also point out that this sale extends to their camcorders alowing my mate just buy a PC101 for £299 !!
  15. yeah - dont do that. Cock the pc before bagging the canopy. After bagging your canopy it is pressed tightly against the kill line so a rope-burn effect will be created on your top skin when you cock the pc. Probably not enough to creat visable damage on the first attempt, but try it for a 100 jumps and then look at it.
  16. Every time I consider about doing one of the American Bars something like this crops up and I thank the stars that I practice law in England. Don't worry about asking questions about anything here, there's at lest the two of us lawyers here (me and lawrocket) who answer questions about each side of the Atlantic. If you ask about physics Im sure Professor Kelland will chime in. So long as you have your shit-fliters turned up to max a forum like this can be a great place to talk to people who really do know what they're talking about. A simple question can put you directly in touch with the guy who works with your problem for a living... sometimes. Like I said, just make sure you have your shit-filters turned up to max.

    Trivia

    yeah its gotta be UTC
  18. I would suggest you look again at the software version. Reading the regs I would anticipate any rigger being nervous about handing over control of his records to a third party. What if the server crashed and he lost that data? - would he then be liable for not keeping records of the repack? If you market a product that allows him to have control over the data himself that worry is gone. You could have the program prompt the rigger to back up the data in a suitable manner at regular intervals to guard against data loss. You could also have it automatically prompt to check for updates (think the way norton or windows its self does). You may come up against the slightly nastier problem that "keep" may be legaly interpreted as meaning that the rigger must actually have possession of the data... that may be a difficult hurdle to surmount if the rigger only has access to data which stored remotely.
  19. have none of you heard of the "twelth night" ??? Thats the day you take down your chrimbo decs (if you ever put any up). Leaving them up after that date is unlucky.
  20. Of course you already know you should not be thinking of setting warnings that say to you "get ready to pull" and "pull" but rather a warning that says to you "why the hell didnt you pull back then like you were supposed to?" You should not be getting an audiable to tell you when to pull - its there to remind you that you forgot. How about getting the time out and setting the first warning 500ft lower than your pull hight. That way you are aiming to beat it and maintain your altitude awareness instead of relying on a machine (which breaks) to maintain altitude awarness for you. I was advised not to buy an audiable until I had at least 50 jumps so that I would not fall into the bad habbit of relying on it. After 50 jumps you should have been able to develop altitude awarness youself and wont spend the rest of you skydiving career relying on a gadget. I vote either get the time out and set it slightly low (therefore its a safty device incase of brain fart) or wait for the pro-track - by which time you will have developed your own inate altitude awarness.
  21. but I guarantee you would have felt enlightened and fulfilled at the end of it.
  22. I know what you mean - torque wrenches are always socket attachment tools. I'm no mechanic but I've never seen one that isnt. I guess you could build one with a "C" type attachment but it would take a fair bit ot of engeneering and that means money.
  23. Real humour: My Godfather was in the Airborne (UK). One time some guys spilt a load of green paint out on the parade ground. They didnt want to get caught so painted it into a large square with perfect corners and straight sides. For the rest of the time my Godfather was there once a year, someone detailed a squad of men to go out there and re-paint the square. No one knew why it was there or what it was for but someone must have ordered it and therefor it must be maintained. Oh, and he was also a Static Line Course Instructor. The requirement in those days was to have successfully completed 10 jumps!

    BPA AGM!

theres at least 3 full BCPA tables that I know of + others who are going independantly (Bristol UNI has one, Bristol UWE has one and others spilling over, and I know the BCPA has a generic one... I assume there will be more I do not know about)
