I note that in all other forums Mr. Booth speeks with an air of authority that comes from experiance. It is this experiance that puts peoples concerns at ease as they give weight to his knowledge. In this instance however, it is the note of experiance in his post that concerns me.

Some questions about a Wings container order
mr2mk1g replied to JustRelax's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'll see if I can post some closeup pics tonight. The pud is about twice the size of the ones I've seen on other rigs with a protruding stiffened edge down one side. It looks much more like a cutaway pad by comparison to other designs in this respect. This stiffened edge is pushed tightly under the bridal routing flap so that the pud is held firmly in place over the mouth of the boc. -
how about: “truffle hunting swamp donkey” (followed by imitation braying sounds) or an ugly person is a “hippocrockopig” or a nice threats are “drag you into the woods and set fire to you” or “rip off your leg and beat you with the soggy end” or “eat your first born” (no honestly Im not disturbed… I have this certificate see)

Some questions about a Wings container order
mr2mk1g replied to JustRelax's topic in Gear and Rigging
I asked that of you 6 months ago I wanted it built for a 170 and able to take a 150. I was open about the fact that I was gonna put a 190 in it initially but I also made it clear I was happy to take responsability for that decision my self and the pain in the arse of packing it would be mine. Hey my big ass ZP pilot chute only hesitated once on me. Worked great, and now I have a nice 170 in it. Packs up great and I know its tight enough to take a step down if I ever want to go that small. -
Should Drug Convictions be a Bar to Student Loans?
mr2mk1g replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
Over here most convictions are wiped off a persons record after a period depending on the severity of the crime. Its as if you were never convicted. (some are never wiped for obvious reasons). No one has the right to ask about spent convictions and may not act on them if they find out. EG minor drugs offence here while under 18 would be wiped off the record after 2.5 years. Does the US legal system have a "spent" convictions system? Not exactly a solution to your question, just curious. -
Yay - found a photo on the net of me I can post with absolutely no effort Thats me on the very right --> HERE

well that was in the "informal" wear worn earlier in the evening. Later the guys are in tuxeduo's and the women are in evening gowns. I took the photo from the Perriscam archives as we met melanie and Jack and spent time chatting to them before getting snapped. Check out their photo's of the event: HERE

Ive got a couple of mates with rooms and I was planning on crashing with one of them. Rooms are £85. Are you planning on making use of your femenine charms to secure a room or have you somewhere sorted?

I guess theres no reason to pass judgement on the effect - it has both cool and bad consequenses. Just so long as everyone knows about it. What bothers me about the website is that its one of those products where they try to baffle you with science.... they always smell of bullshit. Might work well and be a real cool addition to my hangover cure. I'm just worried about the bullshit. If they really wanted you to make an informed buy, they would explane it in dumbass, not fill it with medico-latin dictionate.

A helmet is like a foxhole or a flak vest. Its not gonna do squat against a direct hit, but will save your life from a shell fragment.

That means this drug causes you to stay pissed longer! Its the alcohol which makes you feel drunk by acting as a competative inhibator in your brain, (trying to remember A-level biology). So if this drug slows down its metabloism into other products you will be pissed longer and have the consequential problems longer. Ok this product might reduce the hangover, but its not getting the alcohol out of your system any faster. It does not bode well for the morning after the night before drive into work

You're right of course, virtually everything can be put down to a mistake by someone somewhere. But put in chaos theory though and you might come up against situations where shit just happens. Imagine a tension knot on a large canopy... not caused by anything much other than the lines moving against each other on deployment. No ones fault, not really something that can be avoided, just happens. All that messed up burble air makes for a large chaos theory factor.

I'll see you at the AGM then Alana

Well if the main comes out the container after you've cutaway and deployed your reserve it will most likely fall away while still in the d-bag, or at least only in the early stages of deployment. (Riggers feel free to chime in and correct this 100 jump wonder. Edit: by the way I mean me not labrys in case there's any confusion). I guess that can still cause an entanglement but I think thats a better risk than having a fully deploying canopy thats still completely attached to you.
-
IMO, if you touched it you chop it. How was she to know she had not worked the pilot chute out enough for it to deploy?... then she'd be looking at a two-out situation. Bad juju. If your really short of altitude, its been suggested that you might be better off not cutting but for the split seccond it takes, its worth doing if you're as high as she was.

British Medical Journal evaluates need for a parachute!
mr2mk1g replied to ltdiver's topic in The Bonfire
I wonder what Bill Booth would say about that? -
DZO just has to issue a standing order that every time he pulls belwo 3000ft he gets his reserve poped on the ground as punishment. The repack bills will soon drive him higher. If its judged by his protrack though be fair and warn him about how it can register lower - that way you'll get him tossing out at 3.5 like he ought to.

Dropzone.com does though Clicky:Atmonauti

They are larger thus magnify the leaver effect giving a lighter load. If you search you will find actual figures. The difference is actually pretty small but could make a difference in some marginal situations. The same can be said to a lesser degree of stainless hardware which technically increases pull force by a tiny ammount when compaired to the brushed stuff. The biggest issue to arrise in recent years is the possability that the excess cable can get trapped by heavily spun up risers... thus hard riser inserts.

Your problem is you are working with a misnomer. You are saying you think skydiving is "safe". What I think you actually mean is that you "feel safe". These are very different. I would not seek to argue with you feeling safe. That is a subjective thing and only you can know it. The actual word "safe" is not so subjective. Ron already posted the definition. Id like to point out the relative part on which id rely: 2 Free from danger or injury; unhurt: safe and sound You have already said you acknowledge that skydiving is not "free from danger". You must therefore agree that skydiving, being an activity that is not "free from danger" cannot be compatable with the proper definition of "safe".

Isn't it time for a serious talk about low turns??
mr2mk1g replied to skydiver51's topic in Safety and Training
People are arguing over the definition of a subjective term. That in itself is almost a perfect oxymoron. -
Isn't it time for a serious talk about low turns??
mr2mk1g replied to skydiver51's topic in Safety and Training
Not all of these are intentional turns though. Im reading through the back lists of incident reports. Most are due to low turns. Half (roughly on my perception of having red a load just now) are unintentional Stupid Low Altitude Manouvers. Of those which are intentional I doubt the injured intended to eat dirt. A mistake was made somewhere allong the line. All this points to a requirement for better training, both in relation to not making SLAM's and on how to swoop safely if you do want to swoop. -
Some questions about a Wings container order
mr2mk1g replied to JustRelax's topic in Gear and Rigging
I recently bought a wings and had them make it tight. Its basically for a 170 but I crammed my 190 into it for a dozen jumps. I figure I can downsize to a 150 at some point in the future and given my body size I can't really see me going beyond that for a looong time anyway. Sounds like just the sizing you're looking for. Its a W-13. If your cramming stuff in A) make sure Sunrise knows and is happy and B) get opinions of experianced jumpers/packers who can watch you pack it and confirm they're happy that it will open (there may be issues with pilot chute in tow and/or container lock if its too tight). Remeber that packing something into an under sized container is an absolute and unadulterated bitch and not exactly the easiest situation in which to learn. Paige at Sunrise is very helpful and a regular (hottie) on here. -
Does anyone have any input on the different qualities of these two materials in their application to FF suits? Do they produce different free fall speed / control characteristics? Is one more durable than the other? I have cotton FF pants and my housemate has Supplex ones so I know what each looks and feels like. Im just after opinions on how they fly in comparison to each other with a view to ordering a new FF suit in one or the other. cheers
