  1. Do us (the sport) a favour; if you're talking to the press about your experiences with 1800-skyride please make sure they're aware that this company isn't terribly indicative of the sort business practices of most skydivers/DZ’s and that not everyone in the wider skydiving community is particularly happy with their activities.
  2. I think I have an idea about what they were referring to. Part of the cost of your jump course will cover the cost of temporary BPA insurance. This is mandatory and covers you for third party liability up to £2 mil. It costs £24 and is good for one month only. You are not permitted to jump without BPA insurance so perhaps he was indicating that your insurance had now run out. Surely though the answer to that would be another £24 - not a lifetime ban? I can't now remember how student membership works. It's been some time since I needed it. I seem to remember only being required to fully join the BPA when I got onto freefall... but I can't find a document detailing "student membership" and the lifespan of the insurnace offered to student jumpers. Hmmm... instructors out there? How long is the BPA insurance good for on a student jump? Could that be what has happened here?
  3. That's alright then - just so long as it's "industrial haze" and not cloud. We wouldn't want to break any rules now
  4. Water - that's how it's ment to be drunk. There may well be cocktails out there with it as an ingrediant but I like it as it was intended. It's cool to make a green liquid go milky white with the addition of a clear liquid.
  5. There's no reason not to buy a used cypres. It simply comes down to price and can you get a good deal on it bearing in mind battery and service costs. There are no obsolescence issues - the only real things the cypres 2 introduced were slightly difference battery cycles (has effect of reducing running costs slightly) and the 2 is water resistant (how often do you intend to dunk your rig?). Don't worry about spares – it ought to come ready to install. Your rigger will have cypres closing loop. If the batteries or cutter need replacing the add should state so. If your rig is cypres ready and you don’t want a cypres fanny pack you need not worry about spares. If it doesn't say it's most likely a 1-pin but an e-mail to confirm wouldn't go amiss. You'd be a pretty dumb seller if you listed a 2-pin and didn't point that out as they are significantly less common. I believe 2-pin cypres's can be converted to 1-pin by your rigger at a price. Airtec will continue to support Cypres 1 throughout their remaining life span.
  6. You don't have to do that in a post in order for you post to be a troll. Read the rules. A troll is an inflamatory post which is designed to solicit a negative response as opposed to a discussion. You said: How on earth can you claim that does not fall into the catagory of a TROLL? There's no invitation to a discussion there - simply insults and an attempt to provoke a negative response. Trolling carries the same penalties as a personal insult.
  7. Don't be silly. If you are Trolling he can tell you that you are a troll. That is not a personal insult - it is pointing out to you that you are breaking the rules. Go read them - they're here:http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=142088 Note how Sangiro states: What people here are telling you is that you are breaking the rules in exactly the same way as a personal attack. The two offences are listed in the same sentence - they carry the same penalty and are patently seen as being just as bad as one another by the owner of this site. Post about ASBO's if you want - in a civilised conversation I will happily answer what questions you have about them. I can point out where you are wrong, give you some hints as to why you might want to think again about some elements of your argument - hell I can even point out a few elements of the system you might genuinely have some issues with. But when you post: all you do is highlight that your thread is simply an attempt to continue your silly little vendetta against the Brits that post here. It is nothing more than an inflammatory attempt to cause arguments. It belies the fact that you have absolutely no interest in a genuine discussion about ASBO's; you simply want to continue the arguments we were having in the recent gun thread that you have been unable to resurrect. This thread is a TROLL. TROLLS are banned by the forum rules in the same way personal attacks are. The punishment is a ban if you fail to take on board moderator’s warnings. I suggest you think again about the tone you are using and actually read the rules you are expected to abide by. If you genuinely wish to discuss ASBO's please feel free to start a thread opening with actual discussion as opposed to the trite with which you opened this thread. And finally - grow up.
  8. Point being - Rambo was actually a twat that couldn't look after his equipment properly.
  9. ok, my bad. I was under the impression that many studes came off AFF with a very fast position and with a bit of RW training ended up with a much flatter body position without that over accentuated big bannana shape and as a result slow down a lot. But then I'm no AFFI or RW coach. Stick with Tonto's advice - or better yet - the instructors who clocked you at 160.
  10. It's all about drag. In general terms, the slowest suits out there are made to be baggy, from a heavy pollycotton, with multiple layers of material. Some suits offer "swoop cords" which allow you to create little wings out of your armpits to slow you down in a hurry if you need them. The right suit can make a huge difference. It's a tool - you use the right tool for the job. That said, if your profile's correct and you have just 3 jumps - you're probably using a big student arch position. This is great for stability so great for learning but it's also a very fast position. You'll find that as you progress and learn some slightly more advanced body positions your speed will come down significantly on its own. That said - you're probably gonna want a big boy suit like mine at some point.
  11. This isn't a discussion - it's a TROLL. TROLLS are not welcome on any forum. I'm not going to be drawn by a TROLL: TROLLS are childish idiots who would be better off sitting in the corner and quietly masturbating rather than going on line so that everyone can laugh at them. I'm not going to feed the TROLLS.
  12. Ok, so what he's basically complaining about is the fact that a load of soldiers were put on a bus by their commanders then sent across a dangerous country without an escort. He's right about that - there does need to be some questions asked about why someone did this incredibly dumb act. I'm sure US soldiers would not be put in the same situation - no weapons - no escort – un-armoured transport. It’s asking for a bloodbath. Questions need to be asked of the command structure under which these Iraqi's were placed. I can ask this from a position of hand on my heart ignorance - who was in command of these soldiers? Was it the US? Was it Iraq? Whoever it was has some questions to answer. Sticking unarmed soldiers on an undefended bus in the middle of Iraq isn't a particularly bright idea. It’s not like their commanders are not aware of the likelihood of ambush – it’s happening every day. If it was the US that allowed these soldiers to be stuck out there on a bus with no hope of defence - I think he's right to be asking the questions he is – regardless of the fact the US is trying to help. If it was an Iraqi leadership those questions need to be addressed to them.
  13. I've never heard of "treasoner" - but then I’m not about to adduce that of proof of a negative. I am sure though that "traitor" is the correct term for someone who commits "treason" though. Try dictionary.com'ing it.
  14. A male born of Yorkshire is called a "Tyke". There are indeed archaic laws on the statute book relating to the legality of acts such as the killing of a Scotsman within the old City Walls of York after dark (I understand this is non-weapon specific) and as to the killing of Welshmen within the grounds of Hereford Cathedral on a Sunday (if I remember correctly you are required to use a longbow although I cannot recollect if there is a prescribed range). Anyone hoping to take advantage of these laws however would find themselves falling fowl of the 1957 Homicide Act and the effect it had on these laws by virtue of the doctrine of implied repeal. Despite what the papers say – they no longer have any legal effect. They do make a good joke though.
  15. Cos in sit my eyes are in my ass burble. I wear goggles that look a lot like sun glasses except they have a rubber layer round the rim and a strap clipped onto the arms. I don't fuss with the strap for FF dives. When I go out for a flat dive or a tracking dive though I have to clinch them down or the air gets under them and pisses me off. We're all different - we all have different shaped faces. As with helmets, eyeware is one area where personal experience doesn't always translate well between individuals. Not a lot can fully replace personal experimentation.
  16. Yup - what Wings call freefly handles most others call puds, regardless of whether they're on a pull out or a throw away system. Given that the design of a pud makes little difference to the risk of a premature on a pull out system, I'd hoped my intended subject was apparent.
  17. I wonder what the effect the existence of the BBC has on those figures - never mind the effect of their argument with the Govt. about sexing up certain dossiers.
  18. It's not always quite as warm as SA in the UK... neked jumps at some times of the year could be life threatening - at least to progeny. 100th is a special jump on which you generally plan to do something special - whatever that may be for you. I think I did something like a 7 or 11-way tracking dive. That's a large size jump for a 100th jump. Pies aren't common. Beer is a firm rule - you buy beer for your 100th. The explanation generally given is that it's your "first" 100th jump.
  19. Never said they lie - just that they only present the info they want you to have. Official studdies and figures give you both the good and the bad. And try to think how individual accounts are indicative of overall trends. Sure if you see a lot of them that might show you a trend... but when you only see the accounts they want you to see you only see the trend they want you to see.
  20. Nothing quite like the wilfully ignorant hey. I have - they don't do too well with facts regarding UK gun crime. They might be able to present US figures in a nicely biased way which suits their position but that doesn't curry much favour with me in a discussion about the UK. The NRA is hardly what you'd call an independant party.
  21. Lawyers. Got a problem with that? And it was the conclusion of the Cullen Enquiry. Try reading it.
  22. I've been lazy about the issue up to this point, but seeing as it's becoming a bit of an issue I felt I ought to point it out. The 4 million figure is far from authoritative. It came from pundits - not from within the industry. While considering the figures Home Affairs Select Committee were in 1996 provided a number of estimates. They noted the 4 million figure and concluded that most experts considered it to be far too high. A further figure of 200,000 was provided by the police and was generally considered to be far more accurate although it was acknowledged that this figure itself could prove to be slightly low. My point is – the 4 million figure branded about which PJ brilliantly sourced as “I read it somewhere once” is a) far from accurate and b) far from accepted. There are many other estimates – the most generally accepted being a figure somewhere slightly in excess of 200,000. The figure of 4 million is preferred by scare mongerers and tabloid newspaper headlines.
