Similar story. One of the guys on the Fire Dept. I worked for put out a memo stating that he had made a deal with Perris Valley for a cut rate FJC, $55.00, and it covered everything. Twenty six guys signed up for the next Saturday, 5 showed up and I was the only one to go on to earn a license. The truth be told the only reason I made my second jump was because I was so scared I didn’t remember anything about the first one. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Hey Jerry, I have read Troy’s write up and Airtec’s response. And I agree with you on their unwillingness to release information until they are forced into a corner. But I think all the AAD manufactures are like that. And skydivers that can’t find their ass with both hands and a flashlight make it worse. That was why I was trying to back the guy up in that post you referred to. The majority of them wouldn’t know a misfire from a fart if it bit them in the ass. But they will get on line and swear what they heard in the bar is fact. That’s what I was trying to get through to that I think if you check you will find that the same person wrote this article. In my opinion neither is based on fact and is the ravings of a nut. http://viewer.zoho.com/docs/c6UCg Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Reality is where something is fact and not second hand information that has been repeated over and over again. Is this activation Emporia Brava something you have firsthand knowledge of or just something you heard about? If misfires, activations or incidents with any AAD by any manufacture are not reported it didn’t happen. Every time there is an incident it should be documented by the DZO or the S&TA and a copy of a completed report sent to the countries Federation/Association and the manufacture. That is the only way to come up with data that tells us something. Posting it on dz.com or other web forums is great for stirring up the shit but doesn’t help come to any useful conclusions. http://www.vigil.aero/live-saving-report http://www.cypres-usa.com/activ_re.pdf My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

What an incredibly asinine thing to say. But thanks for you thoughts on it anyway. You might think it is asinine but it is true. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

No pissing contest but you haven't looked very hard. Here are 4 links that will give all the SB you can read in one setting. http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk/cms/index.php?/forum/291-service-bulletins/ http://www.cspa.ca/technical-a-safety/technical-bulletins#page http://www.pia.com/PIAPUBS.htm http://hq.apf.asn.au/index.php/Service_Bulletins If you were working when this "incident" then you would know if the DZ filled out a report of what happened and sent it to Airtec. If no one did and you are just now bringing it up how would anyone know about it. Incidents that are not reported by the owner of the unit for all practical purpose didn’t happen. Anyone who is not aware that something happened in Thailand that involved AAD’s is living under a rock. It was on both of the AAD’s web pages; stories were published in most of the magazines worldwide and talked about in every skydiving forum. I believe the “incident” you are referring to was on 2 Mirage systems and was due to sloppy rigging not the AAD cutter. http://www.miragesys.com/media/download/MiragePSB1204.pdf All of the “incidents” you referenced to my knowledge lack one thing. They were not reported to anyone. Having something happen and posting about it on dz.com does not count as reporting it. As for the “general skydiving community” a good portion of them know little if anything about their gear and how it works. They don’t even pact the damn thing. It’s like they don’t care or are to laze to learn. I don’t blame you for wanting a “level playing field” but the only way to get that is do it yourself. Skydiving Discipline Progression Question
mjosparky replied to Stearny's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Any time you have 2 or more people on the jump you are attempting RW (relative work) no matter if you are sitting, on your back or upside down. For you first 100 or so jumps concentrate on belly flying. It’s a good idea to be pretty good at it because everybody is a belly flyer at pull time. Plus it will help you while you are learning the other disciplines. Pulling a 4 way out of a Cesena is a lot harder than most of the turbine babies realize. While you are working hard to become good at all forms of skydiving don’t forget it is recreation. Have fun. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I am sure I have done more research on AAD’s in the past 15+ years then you have. I am not aware of any “incidents” not known to the rigger community involving any of the AAD’s on the market today. If you feel you have information I don’t please share. If not maybe you should quit waving a red flag and shouting “fire” in a crowded theater. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I think you are wrong here. Argus replaced in 2006 and in September (?) 2010. Vigil had over the years 4 or 5 cutter changes and replacements. I can only find three but I am pretty sure there is one more issued this year. Issue date: 11 December 2006 Bulletin number: SB AMM021206/2 Subject: Mandatory cutter replacement Issue date: 5 September 2010 Bulletin number: SB AMMO050910/2 Subject Mandatory cutter replacement Issue date: 7 December 2010 Bulletin number: SB AMMO050910/3 Subject: Extended period for mandatory cutter replacement My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

First of all I have no vested interest in any AAD on the market. Why could you not believe it? There was a chance that the failure mode at issue could prevent the jumper from opening his rig with the ripcord. Of the 4 incidents that brought on the ban, Poland, Portugal, Italy and San Marcos, which one had evidence of improper rigging? The AAD in the San Marcos incident was held by the DZO for 9 days after the event when a meeting was held with Jesus M Cavazos, Aviation Safety Inspector with the FFA, Kirk Smith, Master Parachute Rigger representing Aviacom, Eric Butts, Senior Parachute Rigger, Paula Hunt, Senior Parachute Rigger, Marcus Reed, Senior Parachute Rigger, Karel Goortz, Owner of Aviacom, by telephone. After the meeting the unit was shipped to Aviacom. If you do know of any “secret” incidents please share them with us. If not you are doing the same thing you are accusing them of doing. Hear say and you heard it from a friend don’t count. That is not a problem caused by any of the AAD manufactures. I can’t blame you for being pissed. But I can fault you for “falling for the conspiracy theory”. Mr. Goortz has done more to bring this on than anyone else. There has been a cutter problem with the Argus going back to 2006. I believe this latest SB with be the forth cutter upgrade for the unit. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

The point will eventually get lost in some canopy nazi flamefest anyway.. Goodwin's Law "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches” "If any poster does mention the Nazis in a discussion thread, Godwin’s Law can be invoked, they instantly lose the argument and the thread can be ended."
