  1. You are probably right. The study I read was some years ago before people started dying under open canopies. This would produce slower impact speeds and glancing blow on mother earth. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. I am glad you said and saved me the trouble. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. After having seen the forces of different types of deployments from personnel to cargo as recorded on a PDAS logger/ strain gauge I have to say that I agree with you on that. 20+ years of doing testing using similar telemetry taught me the same thing. That and read things like AFFDK-TR-78-51, Recovery Systems Design Guide published by Irvin for the Air Force Flight Dynamics Lab. Wright Patterson. 4. The biggest reason for not wearing then is they make you look silly. It seems people will buy anything. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. I have a Gentex and I have worn it jumping but not for skydiving. http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp55/mjosparky/Skydiving/FlightHelmet2.jpg You are right .The deceleration injury that kills most skydivers is a torn aorta. There may some TBI but that is not what kills them. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. On Saturday the FAA sent 4 field reps. to Elsinore. Two national, one regional and one local. They were there for several hours and the word I got was they went to Perris immediately afterwards. Raise your hand if you think it can’t happen. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. Thanks John. He is letting us know he knows more about skydiving than wen might think he does. He thinks our recent history does not show that. This guy is good. He is letting us know that we are on his radar and if we don’t do something he will. This is just my read on it for what its worth. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. JP, unless you hear things coming straight from my mouth, I sincerly think you should shut the fuck up. Who sells the PAC and supports, it does nothing to influence why I think the Kodiak is a superior aircraft to the PAC. If you have any other words of bullshit to spread, please contact me directly so we can discuss the subject. Here is my number 916 718-0414 You post a smart ass remark and get a smart ass response and get then upset………….. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. + 1 Really people the answer is just this simple. Education is a waste of time if it is not backed up by a clear set of rules enforced on everyone. Separate landing areas are a waste of time if the rules defining separate areas are not enforced. If change doesn’t come I fear that the skydiving world will be reduced to “Tandem Factories” and DZO’s will not have to deal with “Entitlement Generation” mentality. 10. If you want to get better get a new avatar. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. Ram Air canopies make a very poor “parasail”. Tow speed is critical, if too fast the canopy will break right or left dive until impact or the speed is reduced. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. If you get a line dump you WILL notice You have 2 things going on when you go to open your parachute. One is deployment and the other is inflation. Deployment for simplicity is from the time the bag leaves you back until you have line stretch. Inflation starts when the canopy starts coming out of the bag until you have a full canopy. Basically nothing that happens before the canopy comes out of the bag affect the inflation sequence. Obviously there is a lot more going on during this time but that’s about all the average skydiver can digest at one sitting. Line dump on a sports rig is really just an urban legend. As Hookit said, line stows are there for general housekeeping and neatness. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. The only way to get good at anything is by doing it. And to get good you must first learn how to do it right. It used to be that someone on the DZ would make a few jumps with you to make sure you got the basics down and you would go practice. Today everyone is a “professional” and feels they should get paid for what they got for nothing. A good flat track is a little more difficult than some people think. There is a lot going on to do it right and should be learned on dedicated jumps. To get the help you need you are probably will have to pay for it. 15. More and more jumpers do just enough to get their A license and never seek another. If they are not going for a rating or competition that’s all they need. One of the missing elements is enforment of exiting rules, do think adding another layere will change that? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. You can find a copy of one on the USPA web site. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. The way I learned it you stager the barrels so they will lay flat in the pack tray. You put the thread down so if the barrel does come loose there is less chance of it unscrewing going up. That puts the long part on top which allows more space for the lines. 19. Tried it with Piglets a couple of times. But that got real scary real fast. Sparky http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp55/mjosparky/Skydiving/PigletCRW-1.jpg My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. USPA takes the reports they get and water them down so much there is very little useable data left. They go so far as to not list the date or where it happened. Makes it hard to see trends. A quote from a USPA accident report All accompanying documentation will be destroyed with this report. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. And I didn’t get tossed in jail either. It must have been from leading a good clean life. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  24. That’s a good question. I would think doing it at home would be much more rewarding for both the jumpers and the people of Brazil. It’s still a hell of an accomplishment. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
