  1. If the offer is still good I'll take the hit for the team. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  3. Mr. Smith was asked to assist in the investigation of the San Marcos incident. This he did along with Jesus M Cavazos from the FAA, Eric Butts, Senior Parachute Rigger, Paula Hunt, Senior Parachute Rigger, Marcus Reed, Senior Parachute Rigger and Karel Goortz, Owner of Aviacom, by telephone for the first portion of the meeting. His report on this meeting revealed little useful information that was not already known. Aviacom has yet to comment on this report or do any follow up on what was discussed. In fact Mr. Goortz remains silent on a four of the incidents involving his AAD. I am not reluctant at all. I played around with an old cutter and a rig with the same grommets in question. I feel that the grommets had nothing to do with neither the San Marcos incident nor the ones in Poland, Portugal or Italy. It’s an interesting theory but just one of several Mr. Smith mentioned in his second white paper on the issue. Don’t get caught up in theories and possibility as fact. They are a long way from being proven. This is what he actually said. It seems you only see what you want to see which is dangerous when doing any investigation. Just because it is not being talked about on dz.com does not mean it is not being addressed. Aviacom is the one who needs to address several issues and has failed to do so to date. Quit looking for the boogey man under your mattress. It is Aviacom’s move and everyone is waiting on them. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. Thanks for the thought but I think I already have most of them. I have a folder with some 20 odd documents in it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Which despite of these incidents has been on a decline on a per jumps/jumper basis for years as previously pointed out in another thread. I am beginning to think you really don’t get it. You can’t be that dense and still make enough money to jump so it has to be you just refuse to see the situation for what it is. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. Most riggers I know have already read through Kirk’s report. I have been out just about a month. Actually there are to reports out by Mr. Smith. One it the preliminary report on the San Marcos incident and the other is a white paper he did on theories he had developed. http://www.pia.com/TechnicalArgusDocuments/IncidentReports/Texas/SanMarcosPreliminary.pdf http://www.para-concepts.com/AADs/Issues.pdf While both reports are in my opinion good work and well done. But without some statement from Aviacom they are left sort of hanging by themselves. Remember that the problem in San Marcos is just one of four incidents. There are still the problems in Poland, Portugal and Italy that have yet to be addressed by Aviacom. Mr. Smith’s reports failed to make any definitive conclusions but did raise some interesting questions that bear more study. Aviacom has dug themselves a pretty deep hole and by not publicly responding to an investigation report they commissioned doesn’t help their position much now does it? They are the only ones that can make this go away. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. Have you had any dealing with the FAA in the past? Some of the people posting to this thread have contact with them on a regular basis and have a pretty good read on how they think and how they do things. The head of the FAA is worried about all the things you mentioned plus everything else others have brought up. Whether you are aware of it or not every skydiver death adds to his bottom line of fatalities in the aviation world. When he goes before the Congressional Oversight Committee he can’t just sweep them under the rug. My guess he will do what he feels necessary to lower the total. 10. No, this thread was started re a letter sent to USPA from the head of the FAA. It is my belief that this letter was a heads up to the skydiving world about the over all conduct of the sport. From planes to to safe landings and everything in between. But I could be wrong and he was just saying HI. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  15. I've never seen an incident report mentioning type of head gear used. Did you? Read through these and see what you can find. 16. Now the paranoid part of me would wonder if they are deciding if wing suits fall under FAR Part 103. Good thing I'm not paranoid. It sure does look like they could make a case for that. Sparky Sec. 103.1 Applicability. (a) Is used or intended to be used for manned operation in the air by a single occupant; (b) Is used or intended to be used for recreation or sport purposes only; (c) Does not have any U.S. or foreign airworthiness certificate; and (d) If unpowered, weighs less than 155 pounds; or Sec. 103.15 Operations over congested areas. No person may operate an ultralight vehicle over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  18. Use Nike batting gloves and when it gets really cold use a pair of silk glove liners. Keeps you hands nice and toasty and without add bulk. 19. I think the helmet in “Team Wendy” is designed to protect from a different set of hazardous conditions. The shell incorporates Kevlar for ballistic protection and the padding is more for the concussion effect of a blast. They are not so much for impact; this is evident by shape of the lower shell. This is just my read on it and I could be way off. Sparky Point of clarification. Team wendy does not make helmets, just helmet pads and products like knee and elbow pads. If you take a look at the report I linked above, you will see that it is indeed aimed at impact testing and Team Wendy pads offer the best attenuation out of all the ones tested. Thank for the info. I will have to wait until I get home; I am on the computer from hell where I am now. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. Kinda the same way some may think having an ROL or spring-loaded PC or a 7 cell main may look silly ? Objectivity helps... I was being objective. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. Haven’t heard a word and I’m almost to the point where I don’t care anymore. i quit jumping because of the this issue so I don't why I bother. It seems you have a few self centered canopy pilots who feel their rights are paramount holding the majority at bay. Until the majority has the balls to step up and demand change nothing will have from with in. And that leaves a vacuum in enforcement which is like an open invitation to the FAA.
