Jumping with a ruptured ear drum.
mjosparky replied to freefallfrom10k's topic in Safety and Training
You can start by following you own advice school boy. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4135173#4135173 My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I think you need a new slider, line set and risers. Give me a call. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Most of what he posts is just his opinion. His referenced FAA Parts do not support his postings. A good example is “The pilot would have to knowingly permit someone to make a jump using a rig that isn't legal.” That’s not the way the FAA looks at it. Pilot in command means the person who: (1) Has final authority and responsibility for the operation and safety of the flight; Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I am not sure what you point is but we are not discussing cars. If you don’t apply the brakes they won’t stop the car. The loop being miss routed did nothing to prevent the main or reserve from stopping the skydive had they been deployed in time. At no time have I said the rigger should not be held accountable for his poor rigging. But I stand by the statement that the rigger error did not cause this fatlity. I'm not a lawyer, but IMO, not putting the closing loop through the Cutter is gross negligence. It's a simple action, clearly understood by everyone, and doesn't particularly depend on a level of skill or expertise. I would reasonably expect every rigger to do this. Perhaps my expectations of service and your differ? And in my opinion this is definitely negligence but does not meet the legal definition of Gross negligence. Sparky Gross negligence is a conscious and voluntary disregard of the need to use reasonable care, which is likely to cause foreseeable grave injury or harm to persons, property, or both. It is conduct that is extreme when compared with ordinary Negligence, which is a mere failure to exercise reasonable care Negligence Conduct that falls below the standards of behavior established by law for the protection of others against unreasonable risk of harm. They are both “paid professionals”. And the fact is that instructors have a far greater effect on a student’s survivability than any other group in skydiving. As you said he had shown before that he could pull, but when the dive flow went south he didn’t pull in time to save his life. Could this be due to inadequate training? I don’t know. I agree with Airtwardo, “this riggers mistake may have failed to prevent the fatality, but it certainly didn't cause it.” It is my feelings that this rigger should have his certification pulled and not be allowed to rig again. To some that may sound harsh but there are certain professions where “one strike and you are out”. This sounds like a case of one person wearing too many hats, DZO, S&TA, DZ rigger and probably others that I am not aware of. Sound rigging is attention to detail. It is easy to let yourself get distracted. When I rig I allow for the time necessary to complete the task and then once started I don’t answer the phone or the door. You say you have facts, and I am calling you on it. Put up or shut up. You hide behind anonymity and attack other people. That makes your credibility zero with me. A few years ago I did some follow up in a fatality of interest to me. I received the documents you claim to have. (See Attachments) The big difference being that I posted the documents for others to learn from. That and the fact that I am not ashamed to give my name. Now if you have something useful to contribute post it. If not you are just making noise. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Most of what you have posted is either partially or completely wrong. You seem to have a personal vendetta against this DXO and should probably refrain from posting if you can’t separate your emotions from fact. Your attack on Airtwardo is a good example. It has been my experience that people that claim they have “secret information” do so because they can’t come up with facts to support their babble. The FFA never has their hands tied. They can and have gone after people who carry no FAA certification at all. Have you ever heard of Civil Court? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I really doubt if you have any idea how much “case law” Andy9of8 reads. Would that be the same as someone referring to you as the leader of “Coalition of the misinformed trolls talking out their ass?” I have read some of your posts on other forums and you seem to follow the same pattern. You hide behind anonymity and take pot shots at others. And it appears you don’t participate in any of the activities. You do a little internet research and start an argument. Since the student failed to pull in time does that lay the responsibility on the instructor who taught the FJC? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Interesting Dilemma this weekend

John, This a completed 62 way that was taken through 1500 feet of couds a few years ago. It was down in you neck of the woods. You couldn’t drive a tack up my ass with a sledge hammer. umm.. Because we're not living in the 16th century? seriously, the macho bullshit surrounding this whole debacle that some people have disgusts me. The people that post shit like this are just as pathetic as Gary is. You've been fucked. Sorry about that. It happens - been there, done that. Pursue the SOB to the limits of the law. Go vigiliante or hire people for physical vengance and I hope the law pursues you as well, and I bet you'll come off worse. The evidence in these posts should help... Rant over. Congrats on the new arrival! Focus on the awesomeness of that! +1 And what happens if he kicks your ass? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I wish there was one specific way to learn sitfly
mjosparky replied to Cinders's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And what type of flying does everyone do on every jump? The same type of flying sit flyers revert to when things turn to shit. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
You know the last time I asked if calling someone that had no information in their profile an asshole was a personal attack I got banned for a while... But I didn't call anyone anything. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

A functional Cypres is supposed to cut the closing loop; that's Airtec's definition. The fact that the cutter could not have possibly cut the closing loop makes it as non-functional as my television when the cable is out. The FAA requires installed AADs to be functional, do you think the FAA would say this AAD was functional as installed? Doubtful. Your bull shit is getting deeper and deeper. Explain to us how the AAD malfunctioned. Where does it say in Airtec’s manual that “A functional Cypres is supposed to cut the closing loop”? Where does the FAA say that an AAD if installed must be functional? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I wish there was one specific way to learn sitfly
mjosparky replied to Cinders's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
He wasn’t being a troll. He was telling it like it is. If you want to learn sit flying learn to belly fly well first. Learn to feel the air and how it affects your body in flight. People who try to learn sit flying before becoming competent belly flyers will increase their learning x 2 at least. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
The solution to all of those problems is the same. Spend time learning from those around you and making jumps. Nothing improves performance better than practice. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Do you get hard openings before a thunderstorm?
mjosparky replied to soulbabel's topic in Safety and Training
Instead of being a smart ass try paying attention to what is being posted. Not all responses will be tailored to your liking but you can still learn from them. Weather does not affect the deployment or opening characteristics of a canopy. As John posted, look for a communally of conditions that would increase opening forces. Jumper related could be body position or deployment speed. If the jumper had one shoulder low it would cause an asymmetrical loading of lines. If the jumper was FF he may not have slowed down before deployment. This will decrease the fill time of the canopy and increase felt snatch force and opening shock. During packing the packer/s may have allowed the slider to creep down the lines while bagging the canopy. This is a sure fire way to get a hard opening.
