  1. Jerry, You are right, it was a different manufacture. My point was that they were 2 highly experienced jumpers on a tandem rig. And again you are right the name was Terry Dean, not Reed. Chuckers This was before tandem was approved by the FAA and AAD’s were not required. This was also before an activation device was required for the passenger. 2. Back in the day people earned patches and wore them with pride. You could look at his suit and get a pretty good idea of his jump history. They could be SCR, SCS, 16 way or a 24 way. If you hadn’t earned them it wasn’t a smart idea to wear them. You could end up having a one on one talk with Bill "Sled" Edwards Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. This should explain it. Sparky 4.3 Qualification Tests: The following minimum performance standards shall be met. There shall be no failure to meet any of the requirements during the qualification tests of this section. In case of a failure, the cause must be found, corrected, and all affected tests repeated. The packing method must be specified and the same packing method must be used for all tests. 4.3.4 Strength Test: No material(s) or device(s) that attenuates shock loads and is not an integral part of the parachute assembly or component being certificated may be used. Tests may be conducted for either a complete parachute assembly or separate components. There shall be no evidence of material, stitch, or functional failure that will affect airworthiness. The same canopy, harness, component, and/or riser(s) shall be used for all 4.3.4 tests. Opening forces shall be measured on all 4.3.4 tests. The parachute must be functionally open within the number of seconds calculated for 4.3.6 tests. Parachute assemblies shall be tested in accordance with the following schedule: My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  5. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you does not make them “stupid”. The rules are there keep people from dying. Have you ever heard of Dave Wildes or Terry Reed? At the time they were current world champions in 8 way. Dave was a rated TI. They were 2 highly experienced skydivers on a tandem rig. They both went in with nothing out. They were better jumpers than you hypothetical “experienced jumpers” will ever be. There is a big difference between 2 on a tandem and 2 jumping sports rig. If you can’t see that maybe you should rethink who it the “stupid” one. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  8. All of the planes we jump out of are someone’s personal property and there are stacks of regs that must be followed. The same holds true for tandem parachute systems. You may not agree but that’s the way it is. Google Part 105.45 Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. Any reason you don’t use an RSL? You took about 3.5 seconds to pull your reserve. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. Every piece of gear you wear can kill you. The best you can do is learn everything possible about your gear, how it works and how it doesn't work. But even then you can to every right and still die. It’s the nature of the sport and it seems some jumpers are unable or unwilling to accept that fact. 12. Miracle Mike says: ' . . . but did not notice that the RSL laynard had a routing problem that developed from mishandling the container and from the crappy design of the container. . .' So 'mishandling the container' results in a 'crappy design.' I am no longer amazed, I am just numb. JerryBaumchen I agree with you Jerry. If the damn thing was hooked right to begin with no amount of “mishandling” would have changed the routing. If he had made 3 or 4 jumps on the rig that day who ever packed should have noticed the problem. And you have been numb for years. Michael My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. It can take 2 day to prep for one day of drops. On the day of the drop you have salaries, a/c time, and facilities charge and in some cases transportation costs to the site. You then have the cost of test vehicles/dummies and expendables. In the late 90’s and early 00’s it was not unusual for us to charge $2000 a day for testing and depending on travel and what the test item was it could go to $5,000 a day. Any aviation endever is never cheap. This series of tests cost big time. http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp55/mjosparky/00000037.jpg http://i397.photobucket.com/albums/pp55/mjosparky/00000041.jpg Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. There is nothing wrong with the design of the Dolphin RSL. It is designed and functions like the majority of containers on the market today. From the video and the written description my guess is that the RSL was miss routed causing the main risers to deploy the reserve. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. It's pretty damn good when Im around! So, the truth comes out. When you asked me to marry you it wasn't for the green card, it was for my rack! You do have a nice rack......what I can see of it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  17. Jerry, I was not in the USAF, I was a Navy Corpsman. In 1967/68 I was attached to Second Battalion Third Marines in South Viet Nam, Republic of. I got to tour all the hot spots, Hue, A Shau Valley and Khe Sanh. A good time was had by all. 18. In this case they did determine the cause. It turned out to be the pressure sensor module. As a result AirTec recalled 878 units. After a month only 468 of those had been returned. Typical of skydivers. After the sensors were replaced the units were returned with a $70 check to cover the cost of a repack. Does anyone notice the difference in the way AirTec handled this problem and the way Aviacom has handled theirs? All of this information is available to anyone willing to take the time to find it. When people come on the net and rant and rave about something it would be nice if they knew what the fuck they were talking about. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  22. The DZO did not make contact with AirTec at all. He contacted a gear dealer that handles Cypres AAD’s. And he did that with a short email that did not mention any injury. Yes I would be pissed off. But I would also take it upon myself to contact AirTec and follow up with a written report, pictures of injuries and statements for the hospital. Surely from the description of the injuries he suffered he went to the hospital or at the least saw his own Dr. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. If it’s just common sense how come some many people have died because of it? Maybe it’s good to point it out at every opportunity. Sparky What percentage of canopy collision victims have actually been killed by swoopers during performance turns? Since 2004 around 40% of fatalities due to canopy collisions were caused by at least one of the jumpers doing some form of HP maneuver in the pattern. It is my belief that most of them were not “swoopers” but jumpers who thought they knew how to swoop. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
