What's the minimum canopy size that will safely go into an MT-1X?
mjosparky replied to BlindBrick's topic in Gear and Rigging
This is a memo form Para Flite concerning civililian use of their MT-1 series of canopies. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Derek has made a decision that is based on his experiences and his amount of involvement in the sport. I have never held or wanted to hold an instructors rating. I became a rigger because of my interest in how things work. The fire still burns in me and will, I suspect, for the rest of my life. I do not think Derek is saying Skydiving is bad, but the activities that go on around the sport of skydiving are at times just so much bull shit. You must go where your fire leads you. Do so with all the passion of a young woman/man in love. Enjoy and be safe. When the enjoyment is gone, then think about moving on. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Who was the hard landing Santa in Houston?

I didn't say he downwinded in 30 mph winds. Someone else said the winds were 30 mph. If the winds were only 5-8 then refer to second portion of my post. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
You are a military rigger and I am referring to civilian rig. I see the rig 3 times a year. The rest of the time I have no idea what the canopy has been exposed to or how it has be treated. I pull test once a year. What would you do if you did know the history of the rig? Our military also has service life time on canopies, most of which are a waste of money and good canopies. Pull tests causing more damage is opinion, not fact. I know of no studies done on the subject. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Derek, You can give up all your ratings but they can never take away all your knowledge. Please continue to share this with us. Michael My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It appears so. Have you read this last week's Time Magazine? It suggests that this Administration has polarized the American populace more than any ever has, or so they say. I mean, Lincoln had some splits there too. Anyway, some articles worth a read. TIME Uniter not a divider -- hmmm. Paul, Since I retired I quit reading Time, Newsweek and the paper most of the time. I have learned that I am not going to change the way things are and at my age I don't need the grief, I want to play. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

John, I am sure you are proud of your son as you should be. He is doing a tough job for a country whose citizens have never had to want for a thing. They get pissed at some politician and comdem the system. When you see your son, give him a hug for me and let him know there are some of us that love him for what he does for us. I guess we'll have to hear exactly how bad it was if he jumped in 30 plus winds...... If he jumped in 30 mph winds, he violated the special conditions of his waiver, 7711-2, and BSR's if he was Pro rated. This is the type of thinking that will make our insurance go away. If he did not jump in 30 mph winds, all he did was make a skydiving Santa look like a buffoon. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Aubrey, Way to go, how long before you get you A? BlindBrik, Your MT-1X rig should weight some where around 48 to 52 lb. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Actually the way that we measure finished canopy volume is to place the canopy in a cylinder and measure the actual volume. And that volume can vary from day to day and from canopy to canopy of the same type. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

There are and will continue to be thousands of pilots rigs out there with round canopies that need to be repacked. Some of the canopies are of newer manufacture and would not require a test for acid mess but they should all be checked for strength at least yearly. When was the last time anyone on this forum, American or other, did anything to make a person or persons in their military feel good/happy if only for a day. Do we have to make a battle out every move a politician makes. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

That one you have is for main use only, I do not know the history on the canopy and I for one would not pack it a a reserve. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

That question, when thought about for a time, can bring some real emotion bubbling up. I guess what I am most thankful for, is having been able to live my life as I have. With all the opportunities for happiness and fulfillment. In almost 60 years, I cannot think of much I would change. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

If the cap is made of ZP they should last for 100's of jumps, the mesh is the weak point. Its a good idea to give a good look over to you P/C at least every weekend no matter what type it is. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It sounds cute, but I have no idea what you are saying, a Class V canopy? On a kill line P/C made with spectra, every jump you make it gets closer to not working. The spectra starts to shrink on the first jump. If you do not watch it closely you have an invitation to disaster. I have never seen or heard of one failing to work and have never seen or heard of someone forgetting to cock one. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Scott, I am not say that you have a bad reserve, I am saying there are fare better reserves available on the market today. Para Flite dropped out of the sports market, and this is just my opinion, because their canopy designs could not compete in the sports market place. The ram air canopies, gliding parachute, they make for the military for the mission they are designed for. I have jumped them on several occasions with load up to 105 lbs. You might want to start a poll to be sure but I think you will find there are very few Swift canopies still in service. If you are jumping a 145 Swift and the loading if much over 1.1/1 please be very careful if you have to use it. Pull Safe, Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
