kidney transplant and skydiving
mjosparky replied to franciscob's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
I have not had a transplant but I had one kidney removed in 1999. I was back in the air in about 8 weeks. Ther was some discomfort and still is at times, but no problems. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

One thing to keep in mind, it is not the voltage that will kill you, it is the amperage. 1000 volts and 1/2 amp probably will not get you, but 50 volt and 20 amps and you are toast. Like someone else said straight lines will hurt. Land on a house roof if you have to, just avoid transmission lines. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Ed, Take a couple of days to blow it off and then get after it. You worked to fucking hard to quit now. Hang in there it will be worth it. Sparky PM Kris and let her help you out. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

At that time canopies were tested under TSO-23b and there was standard, 150 mph, and low speed, 130 mph. About the only canopies to pass the standard test where bias constructed rounds. That test required a test load of 5,000 lbs. and that is a lot even by todays standards. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Ed, You are either ready for it or you are not. My guess is you are ready. Before you start, take a deed breath, blow off everything else and take the damn test. You will do just fine. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I take it this is you main, and again I am guessing your main is ZP. ZP fabric is not ripstop and a very small tear can turn into a very large tear on the next jump. Get it fixed before jumping it again. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I don't think we can get the hook high enough, this thing is 28.5 feet by 13 feet. Thirteen feet is 3 feet higher than a basketball hoop. Sparky Anyway, when you flat pack you can lay down. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Pornstar firefighter is too hot for colleagues...

First of all as a volunteer FF you should be able to read. You start out with "Wrong", go back and read my post and tell me what I said that was wrong. Second, if you ever make it to a Paid department you will find that porn, either print or movies will get you fired. You can do it at home but the Fire Station in not yours, it belongs to the citizens. Your "training film" I bet made a "good" impression. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I think the reason big F-111 type canopies and all large 7 can open hard is the way they are made. The top skin does not drop over the front of the cell and the cells are really deep. If you pack the 370 in question following the manufactures instructions the nose is not on the ground, you do not "stuff" the nose and you will get nice soft openings. Remember these canopies were designed to open and 25.000 feet at a 150 keas and carrying a 100 pound ruck. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Paul, Teach him to flat pack a 370, hell I gave him the canopy and packed it for his first jump on it. Be glad to. Already sent him a PM> To Pro Pack it you have to be over 7 feet tall! Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You betcha, still have one active today. It's a good solid life saver. Mick. Lets rephrase that, if you were going to a new one today which would you choose, the original Swift, 189 sq. ft., or a PD-176r. I know if it was me I would pick the Swift. The numbers you have are not exactly right. TSO-C23b and TSO-C23c or different and have different weights and airspeed. TSO-C23b requires that parachutes meet the performance standards of NAS-804, PPM Vol. I, page 19, and certifies in Standard, 150 mph, and low speed, 130 mph. The standard category must test to a load of 5,000 pounds and the low speed to a load of 3,000 pounds. TSO-C23c was short lived and tested to the standards of AS8014A, PPM Vol. I, page 21. TSO-C23d uses the standards of AS8015B. They have minimum weight of 264 lbs. and minimum speed of not less than 180 KEAS. For a tandem rig the minimum weight is 480 lbs. and a test speed of 210 KEAS. They can test higher if they want but can't pick any number they want. RWS placards their rigs as TSO-C23b, but you can bet Bill tests to the standards of AS8015B or higher. Regardless of what the reserve is rated for, the assembled rig is only rated to the lowest rated component Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Pornstar firefighter is too hot for colleagues...

im sorry but that is simply not true. I am a volunteer fire fighter/EMT. Many many fire depts (including mine) cannot operate without volunteers. There is simply not enough money. When you quit a volunteer dept. it means your dept is short when a fire call comes in. When 8 people come in, it probably means mutual aid will be called on every structure fire or MVA. This probably will cost the dept money. Volunteers are the lifeblood of many many departments, and that is no exaggeration! I will agree with you, in fact 92 to 94% of the geographical area of this country is covered by volunteers. What I am saying is you do not make your living as a volunteer FF/EMT. You have a real job that pays the bills. An all volunteer dept. is a social club with the Chief and officers being elected. The dept. you work for is not a volunteer dept. It is a paid dept. that is understaffed and use unpaid citizens to fill in. Some depts. use what is called "paid call" firefighters. The dept. trains them to a minimum level and they are paid either by the call or by the hour when asked to respond. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I ran the USAR teams on a Fire Dept. for several years and we had the same rule on our high angle gear. To me the greatest concern was damage to the gear from a hot ember. Taking the shock load of a fall or abrasion to the rope is more likely to put is out of service. While it is true, exposer to smoke over a period of time will weaken the rope/webbing it would take so long as to not be a factor. Front line ropes will be retired to utility ropes long before the smoke would be a problem. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I think this is the key phrase. They did not quit their jobs, they were volunteers. When you quit a volunteer dept. that means you don;t go to the meetings on Wed. And like someone else posted, I think the water is deeper then it looks. Sparky (Retired Fire Capt.) My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
