  1. In the US it's more than that for jump operations. Same as Class E minimums - see 105.17. Bob You are right Bob, plus you can't get a special VFR to take off from an un-controlled Airport. And I doubt they would allow jump operations to be flown under a special. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Looks like the same thread to me. No has said that no one can make you jump. But weather on not you jump has nothing to do with how the pilot is flying the plane. Even you can't take the responsibility for how the plane is being flown. That is up to the pilot. All you can do is get out or sit down, hold on and shut up. The man in the left seat is in charge not you. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. Ah, Geez. You are using a stupid argument and you know it. You are not the last word on a pilots responsibilities when flying an airplane. The FAA is. If a private pilot allows himself to get in the described situation he is not flying safely. No the pilot is not my "mom", my mother died many years ago, thank you very much, and I have been taking responsibility for myself in this sport for a lot longer than 13 years "old timer". Now are you going to tell us all that you have never found yourself on a plane with a pilot that was flying in an unsafe manner? When it happens, you make the best of a bad situation and deal with the pilot when and if you both are back on the ground. And since it is obvious you did not get it, the comment I made to Amazon was made in jest. You take yourself way to serious. You must listen to hear, I am done with this. 4. That is correct, if you can close it with out the use of tools, its not to tight. probably 50%the rigs on a DZ are to loose to make them easier to close. JP, A decent PC will produce over 100 pounds of pull at 120 mph. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. You can argue it any way you want, the pilot was not flying in a safe or legal manner. He put himself in that position which was not only unsafe but illegal. A C-180 is not certified for aerobatic flight, which a nose down dive of more than 60 degrees is. If he had to dive nose down to avoid the required separation from clouds, it sounds like he did not take off with VFR conditions in the first place. I repeat, flying nose down on jump run to avoid clouds does not sound like safe flying to me. Does it to you? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. I watched someone make 50 in a day, does that count? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. The way I read the post, he was not flying the plane safely. I do not consider nose down in a dive during jump run to be safe. Do you? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. Now wait a minute, I resemble that remark. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. I have 2 ash bags of the same basic design but I make them wider and put a PC handle on the top half. They seem to work well. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. Stan (?), Someone I have a great deal of respect for has verified, to some extent, what you are saying. While I still feel you should identify yourself when posting, I apologize for my somewhat harsh post earlier. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. You Redheads will do anything for a cheap thrill. I would have had one more thing to do with the pilot........ Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Educate yourself, learn everything you can about probably the most dangerous thing you will ever do. If you fail to do so, you are as dumb as a bag of rocks. If you are not ready to take responsibility for you own safety, you own actions and realize that you can do everything right and still die, buy a bowling ball and quit taking up space on the plane. Bill, Very good! It covers many things that needed to be said. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. If you don't want to identify yourself, why bother. That makes your post just so much garbage. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. Unless the plane is in a nose down dive, you can exit at 200 feet and get opening. At 100 mph almost all of you deployment with be horizontal. Remember where you relative wind is on exit. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. QuoteI have seen your posts about "common purpose" and that is a good point since the FAA uses it, but it isn't in the regs. There is also the part about logging flight hours, a valid point for the same reason, but I think it pretty weak and full of holes. It's not in the regs either. Honest, I am not looking for a loophole, it seems the FAA is. Ed, You have got to realize the FAA does not need a loophole. If they interpret the reg. one way and you interpret them another, you loose every time. If you truly feel that a private pilot flying jumpers is legal under some special situation, go to you local FISDO and ask for a ruling. If you are not willing to do this you probably have some doubt yourself. If the FAA "uses it, but is isn't in the regs" there is not much that can be done. There is not a lot of case history where people have won going against the FAA. jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. Tony, It think you hit the nail on the head. With a fully functioning PC any stow band that does not release will break. At terminal a PC produces over 100 pounds of drag and I have yet to see a stow band that can take that kind of force. Take any stow band you would like, double it or even triple it. Then hook it to 100 + pounds and see if you can pick the weight up with the band. Sparky Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. Harry, You are right, forgot about the other load he was on. Brooks was on that load also. Guess it just wasn't satisfying, they needed some "Janna" jumps. Sparky (aka Michael) My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  20. Only a few more repacks and I'll have my ticket to learn I think that having a rigger say that the only inspection that you have to do on a round is when you move it during the flakeing, then another saying it needs hung and using a light box to look for damage is two very different answers and should be questioned on the differences. Both answers could be correct, without more information it would be hard to tell. Respond to the complete post, don't take things out of context. When you complete those few more repacks, take and pass the written test, take and pass the oral and complete the practical to the satisfaction of DPRE, then you will be in a position to give advise on rigging and second guess the work of others. 21. I think the extra weight of his ball was off set buy the empty space between his ears. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. I stand by this statement. There is a difference between asking questions to learn and giving advise and running down the knowledge of licensed riggers. At this point, I don't think you are in a position to make judgments like that. It was the harness ring that was tempered improperly. So I guess there is a "soft harness ring". I stand corrected. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. This is no such thing a "soft 3 rings" Don't you think you should wait until you have a riggers ticket before you make statements about what riggers know and what they should know? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. Did you see the article or are you repeating what someone told you? If you saw the article, what issue? I am not saying it couldn't happen, but I think it is unlikely someone would close a reserve with a 4 foot molar strap still in place. I would tend to agree with RiggerRob and Hookitt, stirring the pot for shock valve. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
