Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged." -President Abraham Lincoln My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

What size, wl, and type did you use for your FIRST PRO rating?
mjosparky replied to FrogNog's topic in Safety and Training
Very, very cool. So, uh, what size canopy, what was his approximate wingloading, and what type of canopy was it? Seriously, though, I have for some time considered this story an inspiration so for safety I could use the less sexy details. It's been a long time, but I think he was flying a Gargano Spirit, 220 sq. ft. Wing loading was less then 1 to 1. He was the guy that started "Backwards CREW" at Perris. Last I heard he moved down under. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
What we can learn from this has been common knowledge for sometime now. 300 jumps, wing loading over 2.0 and swooping the gates. He did not follow "ethics of current education", and he was not well informed. He had been told before to slow down but did not listen. As many before him and I am sure many will follow him, he felt his skills were ahead of the norm. He was on a canopy that only a handful of jumpers can fly to it limits. He got in over his head an fucked up. How would you put a positive twist on it. This shit is really getting old. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

This is very good advise. As I posted in another thread, I have tried it on several occasions during test jumps and was never able to complete it in 5,000 feet. As you cut, things get progressively worse to the point that getting both hands on the same riser is an all day job. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I know one guy, Gary Cobb, that did 6 of the 10 required Pro landings with his canopy attached backwards. I was the S&TA that signed them off. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Anytime any of you guys wish to go through an altitude chamber course, I teach one here at NASA in Houston, TX. Price: FREE And to answer the 40,000 feet, I can hold my breathe theory? Not happening...... A. You have approx. 14 seconds of surplus oxygen in your circulatory system. (I would luv to meet the guy who figured that out, but anyways, that's what we teach). Some people will say, well I can hold my breath for a minute at sea level, so I can do that at altitude, right? -- Reason why you can't hold your breath at that altitude? At 40K, your oxygen partial pressure in your blood will be extremely low( if your not using supplemental oxygen under pressure), and your blood hemoglobin is actually "giving up" it's oxygen back to the lungs and you are exhaling it.......ie. it's called "reverse diffusion gradient" And YES, going to altitude severals times in a day WILL make you fatiqued due to each hypoxia cycle your body is undertaking during the day. Adrenaline "let-down" is also a factor...... This response was directed at no one in particular.. Buck Buchanan Aerospace Physiologist NASA, Johnson Space Center Listen to what he says. You go high you will suffer. There is no other answer. Sparky Houston, TX My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

And you wonder why there are few photos of me around....???? LOLOL! 'Twardo, you are one good lookin' guy yourself...but you're married and everything, too. I don't know how you smell, though. So that's why I made my comment.... Ciels- Michele I sat next to Jim on a Casa last year and he does not smell as good as guys named Michael. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

What is it that you don't understand? If the canopy says safe to 150 KEAS and 254 pounds exit weight it means 150 KEAS 254 pounds exit weight. Why is this so difficult to understand? Looking for a loop hole will not change the fact that exceeding these figures is foolish if not down right stupid. Sparky

I think you what I mean in both cases. I feel you would have less than 5% survival rate and half of those would die before help could get to them. As Phree pointed out, many would be used and the user killed when they were not needed. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Have you noticed that there are no lelicopters flying around or above most really bad high rise buildings? The terminal activity can be as high as 2000 fpm + -. I spent 30 years as a firefighter and feel an escape rig might be an option, but a piss poor one with very little chance of survival. jmo Breaking the exterior glass would be just the first problem. It is very thick tempered glass and I doubt if it could be broken with a chair. I have tried it with a fire ax without success. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Under Tso C23D, the minimum TSO airspeed is 150 kts. So if they said it was tested to 150 kts, they meant TSO'd to 150 and tested at 180. There are 3 weights and speeds that can be listed. 1) tested to weight/speed 2) TSO'd weight/speed 3) Recommended max weight/speed Derek Derek is correct on this. But there are only 2 that skydivers are interested in. Max certified weight/speed (TSO'd) This the max the canopy is designed to take on opening. Recommended max exit weight. This is the max that the jumpers ankles can take on landing. You should never fly a reserve smaller than you I.Q. jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
