  1. One of these is my ex-wife. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. 1. The best canopy of choice would be cross form, they do not oscillate and less drift. 2. You would need to have already have the stuff ready to load and go or the time factor would be to long. 3. As Lou mentioned, if you drop them in a safe area they are not were the people who need are. 4. If you drop them where the people are, you have just become part of the problem. Put crew in and hack out improvised runways. The C-17 can land on some really outrageous land strips. Would take about the same time as the other idea. 3. I would be useful to new people like you and most of the older, , people in the sport. Like me.
  4. If they can't jump with anyone not rated until they get their A lic. I would think that jumping with a person with 100 jumps is a no. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Anyone that can talk me into doing a rodeo with me as the bull can get a 168 in the bag. Whisper in its ear and then stuff it. Just like the old days. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  7. Kevin is right. Collections of clothing and food is not going to help much. Most of it will end on a dock or in a warehouse somewhere. If people feel the need to help, make cash donations to a recognized disaster relief organization. The Red Cross is one that comes to mine. Maybe contact any FEMA teams that might be in your area for suggestions. Be careful, this will bring the dirt bags out with phoney pleas for money and goods. 8. When I wake up in the morning. When I wake up in the morning and both feet hit the floor. At my age, that tells me, Life Is Good!
  9. Chris, Contact the rigger who packs your reserve and see if he will suggest/make something for you. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. That was my point. When your skills improve, you move to a bolder canopy and attempt to make those decisions at a lower altitude. You will make your swoop approach a little hotter. As long as you strive to improve and continue to learn, that pressure to make the right decisions will be there. And that is before you even get into peer pressure to do something stupid. 11. Do you have a reference of source on these rigs that "have killed people for over tightening"? I can't remember hearing of any. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Get used to it, that pressure will be with you as long as you jump and continue to learn. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. It's a military thing, that may have made it's way to some early sport rigs. I've only delt with them on pilot bailout rigs, and some T-10 rounds on a cloudy day. They may still be used on new pilot rigs, I'm not sure. That was sort of my point, that the poster is a little out of touch with the euqipment side of things, and that his opinion is effected as such. The friction adapter used on step through rigs are also a military thing. The pin on your reserve ripcord is a military thing. Does that make them any less viable? Does having a different opinion on a component make someone "out of touch?" The only hardware on a modern sports rig that did not come from the military is the 3-ring setup and the curved pin. B-12 and quick ejects are rated at the same 2,500 pounds as a friction adapter. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. Thats pretty harsh. Its also a long reach from not being willing to pack a racer to not packing anything right. I will not pack any rig I am not familiar with, pack on a regular basis. They all have little tweeks and practice make for a better job. If someone bring me a rig that fits that description, I ask if they mind if I pack it 3 or 4 time. It they say no, I tell them no. No, I do not pack for a living. I can afford to be picky. Would you feel comfortable packing the head box on a F-18A or the recovery system on a 16' 450 pound model rocket? I do. We are all have different strengths. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. That was one hell of a demo. Out at 12.5 and broke a 7 grand. Open at 5,600. Thanks for the slot. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. Derek, I think you mean 0.255 mm. 2.55 mm is correct, a normal loop length is 85 mm or 8.5 cm. Derek did not say 8.5 cm, he said 8.5 mm. 3% of 8.5 mm is .255 mm. I don't think in mm or cm, to me it would be just over 3 3/8 inches. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. Don't you feel that quitting adds to the separation most of all? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. Put your trust in yourself, know your gear and EP's. Always remember to think at 150 mph and avoid problems. You are going to look "hot" in pink. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. Derek, I think you mean 0.255 mm. And I agree, what appears to be stretch in the loop is the pack job settling. It I have time, I will leave the temp pin in and put two 25 pound shot bags on the rig for a couple of days and then reset the loop. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. But a "Man Hole Cover" with "Cool". After all, you have been to Kill Devil Hills. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  23. Yes, I did mean 1g over normal. Sorry. I've been in 2 aircraft that have went into an uncontrolled flight mode during parachute test operations. As the jumpmaster/loadmaster on the flights I was at the open door both times. And in both incidents, if the pilots had not been able to recover, I would not have been able to get out. Scary. 24. 6' 5" or 6' 6" or so, how and the hell do you stay invisible at that altitude wearing gutter gear?
