  1. You know that Doc Johnson showed up a Perris last year and started jumping again. I gave him his first hook up. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  6. This paticular test item was 4800 pounds, I know I weighed it. Statement of Work For: Aerospace Equipment Research Organization 2 This statement of work defines the activities required of Aerospace Equipment Research Organization in support of the Rocket SST Recovery System Drop Test Number 2. The work Breakdown is as follows: Line Item 1 Collect drop test vehicle from Irvin Aerospace Inc, Santa Ana and transport to Kingman, Arizona. Line Item 2 Assemble drop test vehicle at Kingman Arizona and load onto C-123K aircraft. Line Item 3 Provide aircrew as required to conduct the drop test from the C-123K aircraft. Line Item 4 Provide Drop Zone Safety Officer and equipment as required to coordinate DZ operations. Line Item 5 Dis-Assemble Drop Test Vehicle and return all components to Irvin Aerospace Inc, Santa Ana. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. You know that for a fact or are you guessing? I have spent some 20 years involved in drop testing. And it is even cooler to be part of it. Didn't have to research it, I use it on a regular basis. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. You are welcome. You may not believe it, but I do worry about you.
  9. And you are wrong on test drops. AS8015-B 4.3.4 (Continued): a. Test weight = Maximum operating weight limit x 1.2 b. Test speed = Maximim operating speed limit x 1.2 However, test weight must be not less than 264 lb (119.7 kg) and the test speed must be not less than 180 KEAS (333.4 km/h) for reserve and emergency parachute assemblies; for dual harness parachute assemblies for test weight must not be less than 480 lb (217.7 kg) and the test speed must not be less than 210 KEAS (388.9 km/h). A sport reserve, as you call it, is the same as any "approved" emergency parachute. It is tested to 264 pounds at 180 KIAS. The manufacture sets what the operational limitations on each canopy will be and lists that on the canopy. The operational limitations on your canopy and the field elevation you jump at is 153 pounds. A quote from the manufacture of your canopy, "This table indicates absolute maximum exit weights in pounds". If you plan on being the best, you better learn your equipment and what it is designed to do and not do. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. Would you let this guy pack your reserve? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. What is really ridiculous is jumping a reserve canopy with a WL of 1.83/1 and laughing at others. Would you not agree Keith? What is that, 65+ pounds, or 42%, over max at 5,000 msl? Help me out here Keith. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Here are some pictures of 2 different types of brackets. Both work well. I have also encluded a picture of a smoke gator I use to help protect the lower leg of my jumpsuit. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. If you do not know what it is for, do you think it is a good idea change it? Why would you want to change it in the first place, to make the rig weigh less? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. I think was you are referring to is Bill Booth's law #2. "The safer skydiving gear becomes, the more chances skydivers will take, in order to keep the fatality rate constant." It has been this way since we were jumping modified C-9 canopies as a main and a 24' twill as a reserve. I suspect it will continue as long as there is testosterone. 15. I can get a picture on line when I get home, I am house sitting now. But the position I use is slow down as much as possible and after I throw the PC make sure my bracket leg is straight and about 45 degrees from my body. As I get line stretch, I keep the leg straight and my foot as far away from the body center line as possible. Clear your brakes as soon as possible and get some forward speed going. 16. YOU KNOW YOU'RE AN OLD-TIME SKYDIVER WHEN.... 1. You think PC stands for ParaCommander. 2. You still call them AOD's . 3. You know the rules for SCS and SCR. 4. You HAVE and SCS AND and SCR. 5. You call it "Freak Flying" instead of "Sit Fly" and can do it without a special jump suit.' 6. You still call it the "Freak Brothers" convention. 7. You remember when safety meetings weren't. 8. You can't tell the difference between BOC and a "pull out" except you don't get to pull your own pin. 9. You remember when turf surfing was something students did, not hot dogs. 10. You think Pink is a stupid gear color for guys. 11. You KNOW what else to do on a weekend. 12. You think they are ALL "fun" jumps. 13. You think a collapsable pilot chute is something bad. 14. You think diapers go on mains. 15. You don't call a jump from 9,500 a "cloud base" jump. 16. When "pro" packing is something your rigger does. 17. When paying someone to pack your main is a waste of perfectly good jumping money. 18. When you lament the loss of the need to "stand tension" cause it gave your girl friend something to do. 19. You know who Lew Sanborn is and can spell his first name. 20. You still call them ASOs. 21. You know what a "jesus string" is. 22. You remember when you actually wanted to buy a Paraflite main. 23. You catch yourself using the term "snoot" every once in a while. 24. Camera suits were used for RW. 25. Waivers were on a 3"x5" index card...along with the rest of your info. 26. Competition judges actually had to stand outside. 27. You remember when a 5-cell canopy was the cat's meow. 28. You can remember when $7.00 to 12,000 ft was highway robbery. 29. You remember deliberately doing hook turns downwind into the ground to stomp a disk. 30. You remember why the pea gravel pit was invented. 31. You remember swearing never to remove *any* padding off of a harness. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. I agree with Chuck, for skydiving purposes, the M-18 is the best. The slag and staining of the gear can be mitigated with a good bracket and proper body position during deployment. Those that have jumped with me can tell you that my gear is not all stained. I jump both rigs several times a year with smoke, M-18's. The problem you are going to run into is M-18's are hard to find and very expensive. The rig and the jumpsuit in the picture has at least 30 jumps with smoke. 18. Is it just me, or have we all heard this before? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. Yeh, it makes sense, it's just not that accurate. For example, the old lines have shrunk and you don't know how much of the shrinkage has occured above the cascade and how much below the cascade. I can see by this method you'd end up with a couple of inches error here and there. While not much, this kind of defeats the point of putting a new line set on in the first place. Yes, you are right, I will contact the manufacturer. I was just concerned I was missing something obvious, which is why I didn't do this before. Thanks, Paul. You are not missing anything obvious, people are just trying to make it more complicated then it is. Trim spec. are usually given with a + - 1" which gives you some lee way. Most people do not have the equipment to make a line set so it is always better to get them from the manufacture. They are best made with one continuous line placed under say 10 pounds of tension, marked and then cut after tension is released. This is tough to do without a line table. With the proper equimpment/tools and knowledge most things are fairly simple. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
