  1. I haven't found a picture of Dave yet, but I am still looking. Do these wings look familiar? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. You are not taking a large risk. But you are loading the MLW in a way that will prevent it from taking as much of a load. What is the reason you tighten the chest strap up so much? With the BM suit and the position you fly in there is not much chance it will slip off of your shoulders. For a number of reasons it is not a good idea to jump a harness that is to big or to small for you. All the pieces are designed to work as a unit when the angles are right. Start changing this relationship and all that changes. Handle position can vary greatly, the yoke can ride up on deployment and cause neck injuries to name a couple. 3. This is a carry over from the days when reserve risers were more exposed to the outside environment, ie sunlight. The theory was that the front riser which covers the rear riser. took all the UV exposer and would degrade somewhat. It was made of Type VII so if it did degrade it would still be as strong as the rear riser made of Type VIII. Thats my story and I am sticking to it. 4. That was Misty, she was a Navy Test Jumper/Rigger. She was not the one who left the clamp on the reserve, she just had the bad luck to jump that rig that day. The Navy ruled use of an "unauthorized" packing device. But the manual on that type of rig calls for the use of clamps. The clamp was not flagged. Sad day for Test Jumpers. 5. If the chest strap is tightened to much, the MLW is not straight and part of the force of snatch force and opening shock is transferred to the chest strap. And you are right, it was not designed to be a load bearing components of the harness. The load should be entirely to the MLW of which the leg straps are an extension of. At the same time the hardware on a chest strap is only rated at 500 pounds, not 2,500 pounds like the the adapters on the leg straps. As far as easier to loosen or undo the chest strap, the adapter on a 1" Type 17 is the same relative size to the webbing as the larger adapter is to wide webbing. If anything, I would think the wider chest strap would be easier because the size makes it easier to work with when wearing gloves. Sparky Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. I still use mine also.... Also made mine using 2" red webbing and a good 5'long...I can not see how a rigger could not see or remember they used it... Maybe it's just us master riggers that use them Killer.... Some of us don't need them to get the canopy in the bag. Technique has always seemed to work just fine. There is always a "chance", if you can imagine it, it can happen. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. I have got some around the house somewhere. When I get home I will look and PM you. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. I didn't start till '81 so I missed that. But about a year after Muskogee, Bill C. bought Skydance and moved it over to Tahlequah. I had re-enlisted in the Army so I only got to jump there on leave. Lotsa them folks are still around. And, stories about them days still eminate.... It was the season of 10 way, the 100 yard dash of skydiving. Damn I miss old 10 way. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. A friend of mine thought someone stole his frap hat while he was packing. After 20 minutes of ranting and raving he found it in his main bag with the canopy. It is amazing what can be packing in with a parachute. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. where's the shadow for under the plane? sure the sun's hitting from the front, therefore the shadow would be cast behind the plane but since it's so low to the ground wouldn't the shadow be close to the plane? or am i just not seeing this shadow here... Follow the shadow line of the wing on the fusalage and it will lead to the plane shadow. It appears the shadow would be out of frame to the left. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. Yup! I wonder how many people don't realize how big of a roll Oklahoma played in skydiving during the early and mid '80s... How about in the late 60's early 70's when the nationals where held every year in Tahlequah, OK. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. that's a little harsh! I've been using one as a belt for years!!!!! I use the buckle to secure my canopy hanger. Works great. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. Look for a water based method of cooling the air when it opens. There is a reason the first level in built below grade. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. Cypres pull up cord material Flat tack, wax cord Selection of needles, straight and curved Locking pull cord for molar bag Black, indelible/permanent felt tip 22 cal. clean rod Several yards of red, orange or pink 1" Type III tape. Flag every tool with 24 to 30" if this tape. Make yourself a check sheet, use it every time and always follow the same procedure. Good rigging to you.
  15. I am sure it was all your doing. USPA doesn't even know you are alive much less act on you wine. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. The problem with "comfort level" is the demo 7711-2 are almost always given to the "new guy" in the office and he doesn't have a clue about skydiving. To cover his ass he will ask for everything and include everything. It is our job to take the time to educate people and the local FSDO and practice good PR with them. Goes a long way
  17. I think there are far more new jumper listening then not. Its just that the ones that don't/won't listen seem to draw more attention with their results of blowing off sound advise. But someone once told me that pain is an excellent teacher. The greater the pain, the fewer repetitions are required. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. I built one for Irvin to hang 370's on and thats what I did. PVC with dowel inside. It was 25 feet long and saging was not a problem. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. It sounds like you have an understanding among the team mates. As long as everyone feels the same way and you will remain friends that is good. Friendship is more important than skydiving, even a slot on Az. Airspeed. Good luck this year and jump safe. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. If someone on your team or any other team wants to leave during the second season, for what ever reason, you were not all committed to each other now where you? Commit: 1 a : a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified b : a legally binding declaration that gives the person to whom it is made a right to expect or to claim the performance or forbearance of a specified act*** Maybe you should say, "I will jump with you toads until I get a better offer." 23. There is no secret to staying alive. We all know drivers who go years with out being involved in a T/C. Its the same thing in skydiving. Keep listening, keep watching and keep learning. What ever part of the sport you are going to try, someone has already been there. Find these people and let them show you where the rough spots are. Learn the mistakes while on the ground. Learning them in the air can kill you. Never loose sight of the fact that skydiving will bite you in the butt if you give it a chance. And always remember, you are not nearly as F^&king good as you think you are. If you keep pushing the edge, someday you will fall off. This is recreation, we do it for enjoyment, its not worth dying for. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

    Bungee

I agree with you on the choice of material. The pilot chute size and the length of the bridle are important, not what container it is in. With the flaps open they are all about the same. The weight of the canopy, lines and bad should determine what size the pilot chute should be. To big and it will slow the canopy down too much and then at line stretch your weight will accelerate it again and it will hurt. Too small and in can have trouble pulling the bag from the container.. Not doing H&P's with a bungee is an urban myth. If designed and build right they will inflate right around 40 KIAS. That is with a steady pull. A snatch pull will reduce the speed even more. When the right sized PC is matched to the right canopy, I use a 24" ZP with open mesh on a 245 Sharpchuter, they are worry free with very little maintenance. I have jumped them at 65 KIAS out of a Wilga at 2,000 feet many times.
  25. Thanks for the info. Boy, does that look scary. But you say it works. Like Phree said, don't let the manufacture see it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
