Thats what you get for doing style. I have dropped 24's at 180 KEAS with over 300 lb. and not left a mark on them. You gotta be tough to take the opening that would "blow" one. By the way, what was your time? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Mark, not everyone is as contentious and does such a complete job of prepping his or her people. I sure if they did there would be less problems in the pattern. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Believe it or not, that guy thinks that look is sexy It is, it is. Ok! I think he got it buring up the sky in the zipper races. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

How in the world did you "blow up" a 24' flat? That is one of the most over engineered canopies ever build. Was there deployment damage? Damn, you are bigger than I remember.
-
Eric, Not all people under canopy are "in the pattern". Depending on the spot, with multiple groups, they may be entering the pattern at different places. If they allow for separation and merge with the flow there is not problem. As Bill has said before, entering the pattern, flying the pattern and landing needs to be predictable. This holds true for everyone, big canopies, little canopies and everything in between. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Larry, 42 years and 6,000 jumps. How much you think we can show him? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I stand corrected, there is still one alive. (barely?) Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Hey Joe, The Survivors are out there and they are pretty easy to pick out. They are old, most of them walk with some kind of a limp and cringe when they hear a 100 jump wonder say “I can handle it”. Some know more than others but they all know something about saying alive. When you give it some thought it is not the tough a subject. COMMON SENCE in the main thing. The more you use it the long you will last. And the old farts, like every other skydiver, they have a large ego. If you ask them for their opinion they will be happy to give it to you. You don’t have to live by what they say but if you ask be polite enough to hear them out and nod your head and go Hmmmmm a couple of times. (It makes them feel important) It won’t take you long to figure out which ones know what and which ones are blowing smoke. The knowledge is out there, all you have to do is want it. It is free. I jump at a busy DZ with some of the best swoopers in the world. They do not cause a problem because they know better then to mix a 270 in a busy pattern. Lets cut to the chase. With 500 jumps and 3 years, you are not what is considered an experienced swooper. You probably have less then 2 or 3 hundred on your present canopy. You can post pages of crap about it being safe but you are the type of low experience person trying it that makes it so unsafe. Have you noticed you are the only one doing this? Now I am done with this, time to let it go. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Air Trash is meeting at Perris on the 30th in case you need help with your beer... You gonna be there Sparky? I think we outta all protest by landing into the wind all day.... That'll teach em... I am going to try and be there. And hell, I always land into the wind. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I think the problem is you are not using the same definition of a 180. What you show in your #2 drawing is not a H/P 180 to landing. It is a standard pattern with the sharp edges taken off. Your #3 drawing is a H/P 180. Do you think with less than 250 jumps you should be doing 180 H/P landing at all? Not a slam, just asking. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I doubt there are any "experts" in the GQ Security System still alive. lol. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You don't listen for shit, do you. Did you read the first line of my post. This thread is not about safe sex it is about staying alive in the sport of skydiving. If you survive or are still around in 10 years, call me and we can discuss you how much you have learned. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Re-read what you posted. A 270 is not staying straight in now is it? It they are below you they have the right-a-way. Both are wrong in a pattern with traffic. But for some reason you can't see that. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Bill, I was talking about BIG canopies. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Please understand this is not meant as a slam or a flame. At 60 jumps in 3 years, split between 4 drop zones, you have not sent much time at any one DZ. On how many of those jumps were you in a landing pattern with more then 3 or 4 other canopies? And I don’t mean other students or your instructor. I have seen Jim (Airtwardo) fly a canopy into a demo target with 100 other canopies, of every size from 100 sq. ft. go fasts to 2 tandems. It was done without a problem because everyone followed the pattern described at the briefing. Without exception. So believe me, he is not trying to play a game of semantics or split straws with you. He is trying to get you to think. If you feel it is all the simple, why are intelligent, educated and experienced skydivers dying due to collisions in the pattern? Even if you have not been exposed to it or have not noticed it, there is a problem developing with mixing different styles of canopy landing in a common landing area. I was just thinking, how can someone on a big slow canopy do anything to cut off someone on a H/P pocket rocket? They fly to slow to get in front and descend to slow to get below. They can't overrun you from behind. If you are good enough to do 270's in traffic, why not just go around them? How does one person fixate on 400 different directions? Isn’t that an oxymoron? I was not telling you anything, I was posting to Wendy. What I was saying is that when I went through FJC in 1976 canopies were much different and life was simpler and slower. QuoteAs a matter of fact, you guys, the older jumpers, are the ones who developed our current way of life. Quote I think you will find that "the older jumpers" had very little to do with the way things are today. Our generation has a whole nother set of ways to kill our selves. And dying under an open canopy wasn't one of them. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Containers are built in different sizes for a reason. Mixing and matching components can and has led to problems. Rather than go through all the trouble of designing your own container size, take the number posted and call the RWS. Tell them your problem and I bet they will be able to solve it for you. Do you mean the stirup for the bootie? It's been a few years since I ordered a new suit, but both my jumpsuits have stirups. And at least one of them have been replaced with "Sparky" elastic.

I agree Wendy. The pattern I was taught was to locate the target, turn to face it and wait until touch down. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
