Anyone hear about the camera-man who jumps without gear?
mjosparky replied to medusa's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Sorry for the questions but... What's a flat circular, what are crown lines and what is a four line release? A flat circular canopy is one that is with gores shaped like slices of a pie with a constant angle from the apex to the skirt. If you lay the canopy out on the floor it will lay “flat”. A four line release is a method of releasing the inside 2 lines on each rear riser once the canopy is open. This allows air to vent to the rear stopping oscillation. A by product of this a small amount of forward speed. Sparky Opps, I forgot. The crown lines referred to in the post were not actually “crown lines. 24’ flats had continuous lines. They would run from one riser up to the canopy, through a channel in the canopy seem, up over the top and down the other side to another riser. When they would do is zigzag the line up from the skirt about 6/8 inches and strip out the rest of the line. This was old 550 line and amounted to a hell of a lot of pack volume. When they were open, if you looked at them from the top, they looked like a jelly fish. Scary. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
getting jump number up. how often do you jump?
mjosparky replied to arai's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How much are you going to learn about flying doing a H&P? Its not about numbers, its about skydiving. Building numbers without building knowledge and gaining experience is silly. You can have 1000 jumps or 1 jump repeated 1000 times. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

OH! He is really there; I tried to get him to leave when he could still walk. He insisted he could handle it so I ran for help. The Tequila was flowing everywhere. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I probably have around 1500 or more jumps on the Sharpchuter as a main. It opens clean, is stable as shit even in deep brakes and is forgiving on landing. It is big, 245 sq. ft. but then big is nice sometimes. Check this link, that’s a demo I did on a Sharpchuter with a 600 sq. ft. flag. http://www.flightconcepts.com/7cell.html Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

B-12's and Quick Ejectors were designed for use on the leg straps. Friction adapters, hardware used in step troughs, were designed for use in adjusting back diagonals and other areas of the harness. They were all designed to be used on Type 13 webbing. They started showing up on leg straps of sport gear for the same reason so many other “fad” items like soft housings and soft ripcords. They make production easier and they cost less. If you notice when B-12’s fell out of favor there was not a reduction in the cost of a rig, they started charging more for what was standard before. $6.00 for adapter, $16.75 for B-12. I have been jumping them for almost 30 years, 20 years doing testing, and have yet to have a problem. But then again they are not cool. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

What are possible standards for measuring sqf of a HP canopy?
mjosparky replied to Falko's topic in Gear and Rigging
Ram Air canopies and airplane wings are airfoils. Tell it to John Lablanc and others that design and manufacture canopies. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

mjosparky replied to Falko's topic in Gear and Rigging
One is made of fabric and thread, it will stretch and distort to some degree when inflated. It has to be measured while on the ground not inflated. An a/c wing is hare and ridged and has the same shape on the ground as in the air. It’s that simple. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
He is the little man that lives under the bridge. Can you say Troll? I'm more concerned with it being someone looking to solicite a little bad-mouthing. It is said that SkyRide has mentioned comments found on DZ.com and are using them in counter suit. Yes, you can spell Troll. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It seems to me that several people posting on this thread haven't got a clue at to what Tom was referring to. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You might not understand it and I know for damn sure I don't. But there are many jumpers out there that are "device dependant". They have not taken the time or effort to learn the basic about their gear and when confronted with the fact want to blame it on their FJC the DZO or the milkman. They are willing to accept responsibility for there own level of knowledge or lack of it. Hopefully this post will get someone to re-evaluate the way they approach jumping. If I get just one to think it will be worth the time. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

From what I have heard from others and seen for myself VSE has some of the best risers and the price is pretty good. http://s90422833.onlinehome.us/Infinity.htm I have tried to find risers on RWS web page for comparison but no luck. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Without a license you are considered a student. And your logbook should be signed by the instructor or coach that handled that jump. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Start early and make your training something that works. By 1000 feet have your target landing area picked out. This is any safe place you can reach easily. It can be anything from a large open field to a large building with a flat roof. But make that decision high enough that you avoid having to make last minute panic maneuvers to land. Safe is better than pretty almost every time. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

A statement that can be applied to many situations.
