  1. "You keep thinking Butch, thats what you are good at." There will be plenty of time to nap in the ortho ward. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  3. It won't even turn on. I think I will use it for target practice. Damn, back to the Brownie Box camera. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. Ah, no. Don't tell me that, I am a retired senior citizen on a fixed income. Thanks My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. I am hoping one of you camera type people can give me some advice. I have a Nikon Cool Pix 4300. Not world class but took pretty good pictures. Well it jumped out of my hand a couple of days ago and landed on the concrete floor of the garage. Now it appears to be imitating a paper weight. Is there any chance of it coming back to life on it own or will it take help? If so is it worth what it would cost to revive it? Thanks. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. I seem to remember (too many dead brain cells) many years ago some rigs had a small loop of 3/8 in. tape sewn onto the last closing flap and the seal thread would pass through it. Does anyone else recall this? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. And the reason for most of these "hard wired" connections came into being are written in blood. I remember a quote for Al Frisby, “If you can imagine it, it can happen.” My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. 1976, $55.00 for FJC at Perris. The rig used and the plane I jump out of probably had a total value less than $55.00. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. Kelli, I have just the shotgun for Derek and it just happens to be for sale.
  10. Or by someone going faster than their abilities allow. I have seen students on the ground picking up their canopies almost get taken out by a would be swooper. The drop zone I jumped at had some of the best swooper in the world. And I can't remember where they ever had a conflict with another jumper in the landing area. The really good ones don’t create problems and the want to bee’s blame it on everyone else when they do. The Prof. said it takes 2 to cause and 1 to avoid. That’s all well and good and sounds noble. But in the real world it is usually caused by one person flying with their head up their butt. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. The major problem with people deploying high with a reserve whether FF or belly flying is that more and more people are overloading their reserve. When you are already at the ragged edge of common sense adding 10,000 feet to the mix might be all it takes. But you are talking terminal deployment. If it is a premature deployment of you main and the main goes to shit, cutaway and fire the reserve. You will not be near terminal. If it is a premature fire on the reserve you better hope that you are not way over the max on the canopy. But keep in mind, any canopy can come apart on any jump. That’s why it is so important to know your gear, know its design limits and take care of it as if your life depends on it. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Hi Terry, I have a copy of that document also. The first thing I thought of was Patrick De Gayardon. If memory serves me he did some minor rigging to his container that involved hand stitching. On the next jump he had a malfunction and the reserve fail because of that tacking. I would think common sense would tell someone not to stitch a packed container. But then common sense in not that common anymore. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  14. Pretty good deal today. In 1971 $40.00 was a lot of money.
  15. QuoteOK, accepted, but how can this prevent a unbagged canopy from inflating? Quote You were partially correct in your last post. A ram air canopy needs tension on the lines to inflate and take shape unlike a round. Ram Airs can and have been jumped at terminal without the use of any deployment device at all. 17. TSO tests are not normally done at 14,000 feet. This was probably for something other than your normal sport gear. Sport or commercial gear is only about 1/3rd. of what military sales are. And I believe all the major manufactures have developed products for military use. Look at CPS. See attached table. I have deployed above 25,000 msl a number of times with an exit speed of 130/135 KEAS without the use of a speedbag. While the openings were not something I would like a steady diet of I do not believe a speedbag would have had any affect at that speed. jmo Note: Still waiting for someone to respond to Nancy’s statements: My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. The only reason I can see for not doing it is cost. And the cost could not be that much. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. We were discussing a rigger knowingly falsifying a data card and his logbook. Not doing work he said he did and do some work wrong. Now you want to start discussing calling clouds “industrial haze” It sounds like thread drift in a big way to me. Where are the moderators when you them?
  20. You were told wrong. Sec. 91.105 Flight crewmembers at stations. (a) During takeoff and landing, and while en route, each required flight crewmember shall— (1) Be at the crewmember station unless the absence is necessary to perform duties in connection with the operation of the aircraft or in connection with physiological needs; and (2) keep the safety belt fastened while at the crewmember station. This is the only reference to the use of parachute in an aircraft. Part 91.307 (c) Unless each occupant of the aircraft is wearing an approved parachute, no pilot of a civil aircraft carrying any person (other than a crewmember) may execute any intentional maneuver that exceeds— (1) A bank of 60 degrees relative to the horizon; or (2) A nose-up or nose-down attitude of 30 degrees relative to the horizon. (d) Paragraph (c) of this section does not apply to— (1) Flight tests for pilot certification or rating; or (2) Spins and other flight maneuvers required by the regulations My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. The more I think about it the more I think it would be a good idea on a canopy you haven't done before. Just to make sure the trim is right in the first place. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  23. Many years ago back in the day I did out of a C-182. I took 100' feet of climbing rope and put 3 wraps around the strut with the short end being held by a jumper in the plane. I wore a climbing harness with an 8 plate under my parachute harness. While still in the plane I hooked the rope to the 8 plate and trailed the remainder out of the plane. I climbed out on the wheel and leaned back until I took up the slack then slowly repelled back past the plane. Caution, it is much harder to control you rate than you would think. At about 75/80 feet I locked off on the 8 plate and played Superman for a short while. Now the bad part. As we approached the DZ, I unlocked and when over target did a fast repel off the end of the road. As the rope came out of the plate the end beat the crap out of me. It must have hit me 15 times in the face. Well it seemed like 15 times. I had a split lip and a bloody nose. It was not one of my smartest stunts. Exciting but not very smart. If you plan on doing this, have someone with climbing experience there to help you. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. Make up something like this check sheet and fill it out before each jump. The act of filling it out makes it much easier to remember the facts. Jump planner My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  25. Round parachute actually open by Bernoulli’s Principle. High speed air rushing past the outside of the canopy creates low pressure and the higher pressure inside the canopy forces the canopy to inflate. I have seen a situation during testing where the pressure inside and outside equalize before the canopy inflates. This condition leaves the canopy in a “streamer” until if/when something disrupts this balance. That is the closest I can think of to the situation you described.
