One thing to remember is your reserve is a 7 cell design made of LO-PO (F-111 type) material. It will fly, perform and flare, different then anything you have been under before.

where did the word "frap" come from?
mjosparky replied to waltappel's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary frap One entry found for frap. Main Entry: frap Pronunciation: 'frap Function: transitive verb Inflected Form(s): frapped; frap·ping Etymology: Middle English, to strike, beat, from Middle French fraper : to draw tight (as with ropes or cables) It was around when I started. Ladies and gentlemen, I rest my case. -
do any other manufacturers or engineers support the speedbag?
mjosparky replied to darnknit's topic in Gear and Rigging
I agree with you and I am sure John has jumper safety in mind. I just feel that the speed bad addresses a deployment situation not presented in sport jumping. I.E. high speed deployments, 200/250 mph and above. From an earlier post of mine. What I question is the following statements: "There has been more than one fatality as a result. Recent student harness failures are the direct result of line strip openings. All the major manufacturers use "special" bags" There seems to be a lack of any supporting information to what has been stated at fact. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I noticed from you profile that you are loading your reserve above what is recommened for an expert. As a FF/PM you should know the importance of staying within the operation limits of equipment. See attachment My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Do you think a fully elliptical canopy is the right choice for someone with 27 jumps? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I was not suggesting either. I was just pointing out the facts on how the cypres is programmed. I think it is usually wise to consider the worst case, not the best case, when deciding on what emergency procedures are best for any given scenario. Shame on me! The two out is not caused by the Cypres, it is caused by the jumpers failure to take the proper action at the proper altitude. The best way to deal with this is don't allow it to happen. But Sparky, it was a good deal. And the canopies are just a little overloaded. Container: Javelin Main Canopy: Sabre 190 ft² (1.26 lbs/ft²) Reserve Canopy: Tempo 170 ft² (1.41 lbs/ft²) AAD: Cypres My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Here is the loading chart for the reserve you are jumping. You are about 240 lb. out the door and max loading is 200 pounds. You have more to worry about then getting a bigger reserve in you J4. I jumped a tempo 210 on 3 or 4 reserve rides and I am about 20 lb. less and 2700 jumps more. Hope you don’t have to use it in the next say 400 or 500 jumps. But then again you can probably handle it. Tempo Reserve Max Loading Chart Size Area (sq ft) Max lbs Max kgs Tempo 120 118 132 60 Tempo 150 148 165 75 Tempo 170 178 200 91 Tempo 210 203 223 101 Tempo 250 251 250 113 My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Rigger tabs/safety seal/plastic thingy...
mjosparky replied to Kimblair13's topic in Gear and Rigging
At the DZ I work at we place the tag on the left hand backstrap. So i dissagree with your statment, because as you say . . . so if it does have a ROL system it interferes with the deployment system. You jump a Tear Drop, what would you know? -
I remember seeing a couple of 9TU's in the mid to late 70's. And as you say they were both on T-10's. A few years ago I piggy backed some 5TU and 7TU drops on a test program I was working. It was just for my own curiosity, not all that scientific. I came to the conclusion that cutting a 5TU in a C-9 was right at the edge of diminishing returns. By going to a 9TU you did not gain any increase in forward speed or turn time but you sure increased descent rate. I can’t remember the figures but it was dramatic. Bill Booth wrote a little article on safety and mentioned that when the Army went to anti-inversion netting their malfunction rate went from 1 in 250 jumps to 1 in 250,000 jumps. But sport jumps would not buy a reserve with the netting on because in packed 10% bigger. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I am glad that it came out as well as it did. Now sit down with someone like you instructor or a jumper whose experience and knowledge you trust and go over the jump step by step and commit the mistakes to memory. As Andy posted, some things seem a bit confusing. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I would say shame on you and remind you that skydiving is a dangerous activity that is not for everyone. There are situations that if you allow yourself to get into them no amount of magic devices will save you. There are 2 things that you must do on each skydive in order to survive. One is to deploy a landable canopy and two is the land that canopy safely. If you have not started the first by 750’ I doubt you will survive. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Rigger tabs/safety seal/plastic thingy...

For the short time they live. Any device placed on gear after "gear check" should be put on the right lateral/diagonal webbing, the webbing between the container and the MLW. Nothing should ever be placed on or around the left MLW. It is easily visible to the loader who stands to the right of jumper as they load on almost all jump airplanes. And unless the rig has a ROL system, does not interfere with anything My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Thanks Bill. I think some people are confusing staging a deployment with metering a deployment. They believe that double stowing line stows will some how act a reefing device to meter down the opening. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Hey Lady, Quit trying of over complicate something is very simple. If the guy gets you wet, do something about it. Spending 10 hours helping a lady move is more than being a nice guy; he thinks you would look good as a satin sheet sandwich. Get off the dime before someone else does. jmo
