Helps if people actually read the source material...... It helps if people read the complete thread before make remarks. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Good by. "It is better to keep quite and thought of as a retard then to open your mouth and remove all doubt." Ever hear a quote like that before. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

My mistake, I misread the news article. 20 years in the sport with less than 400 jumps is a red flag when doing demos. That’s averaging 20 jumps a year. On most demos the FAA will call for 50 in the proceeding 12 months. What makes you feel a hard pull was not an issue in this incident? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Have you ever felt it "whip" you while in freefall? Come on, get real. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

And a skydiver getting killed while being towed is a stupid death. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I would say a bit more than mildly. I will bet you $100 that with 35 jumps you have never noticed the overlapping rotation while in freefall. You signature line covers this pretty well. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Without seeing the gear, this is a real good suspect.

I maintain it's not irrelevant if both seated parties are restrained with the helmet on one vs a helmet which is not subject to the deceleration over time of the airframe via the chest strap. The relative velocity and subsequent impact force of the helmet would build over time vs the helmet attached to a chest strap. It's a pretty obvious justification for securing your helmet, it absolutely can make a difference. WARNING WARNING: Physics is not something you will enjoy debating with this man. You will lose. What ever you say. That must be why it is such a popular activity around the DZ on windy days. Towing a ram air behind a truck is not rocket science. There is not to much to “know what you are doing”. The problem is it takes 2 to “know what they are doing” and doing it at the same time. I have never seen it done without someone going to the hospital. Since you “know what you are doing” you go for it. I will watch and try to learn. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It would make my day if something I posted here kept one skydiver from dying because of a recreational activity. You say your decisions are “thought out” but I question if they are well thought out. A 135 Heatwave is a fully elliptical High Performance canopy. Jumping one at 1.22:1 would be questionable for someone with 300/400 jumps if they have been making 100 jumps a year. You profile indicates you have made 136 in 10 years. That’s only 13 canopy landings a year on average. You are honestly moving into a really dangerous area. I have several hundred more jumps and 3 times the years in this sport and I would not put myself on a 135 pocket rocket. From my experience level right now it would take me at least 1 year and 100/150 jumps on progressively smaller canopies before I would jump your heat wave. Its not that I am a bad canopy pilot its just that a 135 is a long way from where I have ever been. I know that nothing I say is going to stop you from jumping the Heat Wave, but maybe something I say will stick in you mind and at the right time it will slow you down and maybe back you up a bit. I hope so. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Random questions from reading the forums...
mjosparky replied to ntrprnr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
RTFM 7.1 Important notes for jump pilots • A Student or Expert CYPRES will not work if the aircraft is exited before it reaches 1500 feet (450m) above the height at which the jumper intends to land. In case of a Tandem CYPRES 3000 feet (900m) has to be reached. Once the aircraft has climbed through that altitude and CYPRES has become fully operational it will work for any exit height. Yup... How many qualified SkyVan 'Glider' pilots do ya know?! ~Expediting the jumper exit~ Jumper:"But which way are we heading?" Zing: "Mostly DOWN!" Gotta LOVE a real JUMP PILOT! That sounds like vintage Zing. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Who you calling dude, like you know. What amazes me are the people who are willing to take chances with my rigging license. Without a license of their own and little if any knowledge on the subject they want to decide how a rigger should rig. I am not sure how the Feds. would rule on something like this but from past dealings with them I know it could go either way. They may even come up with something we haven’t thought of yet. The one thing I do know for sure is how I will handle the situation if I am ever confronted with it. It may not be the only way but it is one I am sure is within the “Certificates: Privileges” of my rating. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

John is right, the only ones I have seen were for military use. There is the newer MA-10 series and it goes for between $800 and $900. MA-10 The MA2-30 series for around $500 to $600. MA2-30 And then the latest greatest MA8-30/MA9-30 series that I don't have any idea what the price would be. MA8-30/MA9-30 They all come with a 12,000 or 30,000 foot scale.
