Did I ask you for a gear check?
Jimbo replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know you can't. You should have asked someone you trust to do it for you. That's my point. You left the airplane unsure of the condition of your gear. You put your life, the life of those on the jump with you, and the life of everyone in the airplane at additional risk all because you didn't bother asking for a second gear check. Why didn't you? I thought I covered that in the post where I stated that I have had people give me gear checks, and that when I've felt uncomfortable about it I've asked someone else in the plane to double check my gear. Check my gear in the plane, I'll live with it. Screw up my gear in the plane, pay for your mistake. It's all good, I can jump another day and you can learn something. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

If you gave yourself a gear check why were you worried? What was it that had you worried? Why did it worry you? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

To be technically correct, why not right? Neither BIND, nor Apache are GNU. There's more than just one free software license out there. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Angela, I jump at a large DZ with crowded planes. There's ALWAYS room for a gear check. ALWAYS. I haven't been in an airplane yet and unable to check my own gear, or request a gear check from another jumper. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

At what point is your gear worth more than my life, or yours? Yeah, it's really too bad you can't, huh? By the way, I'm still waiting for an answer to my earlier question. If you were worried (and you admit that you were) why didn't you ask a jumper you trust to recheck your gear? Edit: I do want to clarify something. I'm not advocating that everyone get on the airplane and start pawing everyone elses gear, that's uncalled for and dangerous. However, if you're on the plane in front of me and I happen to notice something wrong I WILL do what I can to fix it. Usually I'll tell you what I'm doing, and why. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

Only a few minutes ago you said that you were indeed worried. Tell me again, why didn't you ask someone you trust for a gear check? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

You wouldn't have had to worry like this if you'd simply asked another experienced jumper to recheck your gear either. There had to be at least one person in that plane who you trust, right? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

Ya know what? Screw your personal property. If I'm in the plane with you and have reason to believe that your personal property might kill you, me, my friends, or the entire plane and whoever it lands on, then I'm damn well going to check it whether you think you want it, need it, or not. Your right to have your personal property left untouched ends at my well being. Hop on over to the incidents forum and read about the kid who had his reserve pin checked on the ground. No, if I think it's going to injure you, me, my friends, and anyone else, you're getting a gear check, like it or not. Deal with it. Skydiving is a sport of independence, but it's only through sticking together that we're able to survive. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -
God, doesn't it just suck when free stuff doesn't work? Sheesh, come on! If you want better service you should pay for it. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I'm OK with it. It's happened before, it will happen again. I'm glad that people are looking out for me. If I think that someone might have dislodged something, or otherwise messed things up, I'll recheck it myself. If I can't check it myself I'll ask another jumper in the plane to do it. Be happy that people are looking out for you, one of these days they may save your life. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -
Because you are perceived as a person of power, a person with influence. Rightly so I think, because you are. It could be argued that because of the green in your name that your post carries more weight than mine, or almost anyone elses around here. Does it? I don't really know. I've often thought that a lot of problems could be avoided if you guys could post to a thread with a blue name, like the rest of us, and use your green name when you're laying the smack down. Is it worth it for HH to spend time modifying code to make this a reality? Probably not. Would it make a lot of folks happy? Maybe, I don't really know. I'm tired though, and beginning to ramble... ramble... ramble.... OH LOOK! SOMETHING SHINY! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Not sure where you're jumping, but a lot of DZs stay open, even when it's cold. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

With great power comes great responsibility. Granted, it's not as though you've got your finger on the button, but you do have the ability to shape, or mold any of the threads. Imagine if Quade went around deleting all the right wing posts in a thread, or modifying others comments to mean something completely different. I'm not suggesting that it happens, only that you need to make sure that it doesn't (which I think you do) and that we need to keep you honest (if the need ever comes up). - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Jimbo replied to Jimbo's topic in Error and Bug Reports
Seems like something has gone a bit whacky. When I click on the forums tab I see the forums with all the new posts/threads. When I enter the forum I see the threads the threads marked as new and threads with new posts. But when I enter a thread none of the posts are showing up as new. The system always displays the first post in a thread. It's not the end of the world, but it makes it difficult to follow some of the longer threads. I have logged out/logged in, deleted cookies, etc... Anyone else experiencing this problem? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
