Ugh. The last time I flew United I remember thinking "Damn, I've jumped out of planes in better shape than this." Well, two hours later, and still at the gate, we changed to a different plane. UA scares me. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I think this is almost like explaining skydiving to a whuffo. You don't get it now, and that's OK and even expected. Like I said - wait a few years and you'll realize just how wrong your statement really is. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

David Brandal (have you had dealings with him?)

See, it's the 11th round that's really the killer. If it would skip right to 12, everything would be fine. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Agreed. The ban has had little, if no impact on the drop in gun voilence. I wonder what has? Maybe it was this: Who knew that enforcing existing laws might have made a difference? Who knew? We've got laws on the books to deal with pretty much everything, these days. We don't need more, we simply need to enfoce what we have. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. I was wondering the same thing. CrossKeys is a pretty busy DZ with its fair share of swoopers - some are names you would know. It's rare that they have problems in the pattern. It's not rare, however, for them to pull a little higher and hang out in brakes while waiting for everyone else to land or to slip into the perfect spot in the pattern. Seems to me that it's the young, inexperienced swoopers who generally complain about the slower canopies being in their way. Amen. And again, amen. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Probably won't get the source to the Neptune itself, but if you ask nicely I wouldn't be surprised if they gave you the specs on the output. A friend of mine emailed L&B and they provided him with exactly that (for a small fee and an agreement not to release it to the public). He used it to write his own electronic log book. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

The recent release of Doom III has me thinking it's probably time to chuck my generic 64MB video card and get something a little more, uh, modern. The question is, what? I'm not too keen on dropping $400+ on a video card, but I do want something that can/will play the games of today in a mode that doesn't suck. What fits the bill? Thanks, Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Interesting. I didn't know about the brain activity at 12 weeks. So, that said, what is -your- personal opinion? Should the mother be allowed to abort the baby at > 12 weeks? Forget the law, we all know what says, what do -you- think? This is an open question to anyone, not directed specifically at you, Bill. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. What happens at 7 months, or 8 or 9? Does the mother still have carte blanc to abort the baby then? It is, after all, still her body, still her inconvenience. Right? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

You know what? The incident is over, I'm glad your friend will live, but do it distasteful that you use the Incidents forum as a way to solicit funds. You've started other threads in other forums in the past, if you want to bring this back then perhaps you can resurrect one of those. Hopefully both of these posts will be removed. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I'd take the PD in a heart beat. I've got jumps on both the PD and Raven reserves, the PD is, in my opinion, a superior product. No question about it. None. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

You're right, it might. By the time that kid gets into the left seat of a 747 he will have had the technical training and flight hours necessary to be there. Neither is necessary in a K-12 schooling environment. I agree, it's definitely the foundation for life. I also believe that the subject matter taught in K-12 is less about specific knowledge than it is about teaching someone how to learn, research, and think on their own. Don't get me wrong, the elementary science, math, history, etc . . . is important, but less important, I think, than the overall process. I fail to understand why you think that a concerned, involved, and bright parent can't teach that. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Big difference between teaching something as technical as how to fly a 747 and teaching your child world history, math, and basic science. Do you disagree? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Good. You did some research. You also pulled a pretty extreme example to make your point. You know as well as I do that that's not exactly the norm. Parents, like you and I, are just normal everyday people. What makes them less qualified to teach than most of those making a living at teaching now? Give someone a degree and they're a better teacher than I am? I don't buy it, and neither should you. Your lack of faith in the American public is telling, Quade, though it doesn't surprise me one bit. And one that I've forgotten. I'm sure I could dig up my old high school math book and figure it out though. I'm sure that many home schoolers have - I'm sure that a similar number of freshly minted teachers have, also. In the two Catholic schools I attended, a study hall was offered as an alternative to mass. -Anyone- could attend either the mass or the study hall. Anyone. I know that home schooling isn't easy, it's not supposed to be. However, there are parents who are concerned enough about their child's education that they make big sacrifices to see to that they get the best. In some cases that's home schooling, in others it's private school, and in others it's public school. Nobody said that raising children would be inexpensive or easy. Finally, the idea of home schooling is to give a child and education. That education doesn't have to come between the hours of 9am and 3pm. Think about it. I wasn't suggesting home schooling for everyone. Fuck them. They couldn't home school their children anyway. Home schools have to stand up to the same standards as public schools, private schools, religious schools, and every other kind of school you can imagine. WRT giving them my money - no - I'd prefer that they never saw so much as a dime of it. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

No metal reservations? Quade, like I would expect any concerned parent to do, I would investigate the school and make my decision. I can't see myself just sending my children off to whatever school is most convenient without at least a reasonable effort to educate myself about what I'm getting my child in to. What would -you- do? I'm also curious, Quade, about your assertion that if the public schools went away that we'd be left with nothing more than religious schools. In the town I grew up in there was at least one private, non-religious school to choose from. Hell, for the ultimate in education there's always home schooling. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Sure there is. I went to Catholic school for 12 years, never once did I feel as though Catholicism was forced upon me. As far as I know it wasn't forced upon the Jews, Hindus, Athiests, or anyone else I attended classes with. We are promised freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Am I the only one who thinks that 5 1/2 months for a new rig is just a little on the excessive side? Honestly, I can't believe -anyone- is willing to wait that long. Pccoder - Congrats on the new rig, sucks that you had to wait so long. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
