DC-9 was flying again at Perris! Rumbleseat Meet was going on (10-way Speed). 2 jumps from an Otter. 1 from a SkyVan. And you guessed it... 1 from the JET!

Thought so, too. Are they 'bending the rules' here? And what is their reasoning? Remember Carl Carpenter and his pulled back? Carl got down and couldn't stand straight, after an 8-way jump with "Perris Vengeance" during Nat's 2004. If memory serves, didn't he tough it out as long as he could before having to step down? He went to a local chiropractor and it helped only a little. His back was out but good. Then there's the story of "Johnny (Broken) Eagle". That same year. Airspeed Red tried to replace him with a Russian jumper. Got the judge's permission and went up, only to get called in by the Meet Director and told that their Russian -wasn't- even registered for the meet! Notice the zero's on the rest of their scoring sheet... So why the difference, if the cameraflyer is part of the team? Don't know. Perhaps because they know what can happen to our necks? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Thanks,Michele. There is a vet right around the corner from where I work. I'll check with the hospital and if they agree start this path you describe. And yes, a few of the little kittens -have- been adopted by staff, taken home, and 'tamed'. The kittens are cute, for sure. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Not to hijack this thread and all, but since kitty lovers are posting here, thought I'd ask for advice. Where I work there seems to be a cat population that is growing. People see the cats (I guess) and dump -their- kittens there several times/year. We never catch these people, because they always seem to do it at night. We are a hospital, and the security guard has taken the time to make sure they are fed (though he is told -not- to). They are ferrel cats (and kittens) that fend for themselves. The cats love him, though, and follow him around on his beat. They don't let him touch them, though. 2 years ago the hospital called animal control and they came and were able to capture all the cats. We were sad, but they were now gone. This lasted only a little while, then some person (or people) dumped some puppies at the hospital! Grrrr..... The puppies are gone now, but more kittens have sprung up. We have some furballs about 6 months old, now, running around. About 6 of them. Guess my questions might be 1) How to stop people from dumping kittens and puppies where I work? 2) And when they do, what's the next -proper- step to take to make sure they're taken to a place where they'll be cared for? Again, these are wild cats. Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

As to the bootie question... Personally I like them. More power and drive (for many applications) an when I don't need them I just tuck them up...and freefly. But, of course, I have smaller wings too. Custom made by Shirley Pelland. No hole in the wing. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

There are different people for different goals. Some like to 'just have fun', while others are out to learn to be part of a larger world (perhaps champions in their discipline). I learned at a small DZ and absolutely loved it. The friends built there are friends for life. We still call each other on almost a weekly basis though we haven't seen each other in years (they live across the country). However, after awhile my skydiving seemed to stale. How much can you learn jumping out of a 182, jumping after the tandem (and cameraflyer) who took up the other seats? Solos get boring after a time. Yeah, I know 'smaller dz's' can have a larger plane that holds more than 4 skydivers. And that's great. If a skydiver wants to use a Caravan (for example) and have fun, then that's grand! Go for it! I'd probably have been happy doing that for the rest of my skydiving life. Then there are those who want more. They reach for more. Perhaps we're more competitive? We want to learn more and more, and you know....people stay in -any- sport because they are still learning. They haven't peaked. Once someone believes they have learned it all they get bored and leave. Or change disciplines and continue learning. They can study and try it out, however the learning curve is alot faster learning from those who are already successful. You can jump with friends, and learn. That's cool. Yet, IMHO, if a person wants to learn efficiently they go to the pro's. And if the pro's earn a living doing what you want to achieve, then I hope their students don't mind paying. The pro's still have to eat and put a roof over their heads.
