  2. If you're renting you'll probably find 'Point Break' at your local video store. Doubt you'll find "Cutaway". Besides, the latter is just as cheap to buy as it is to rent nowadays. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  3. http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1216/is_n1_v190/ai_13539852 "Where all these flowers come from is a story in itself. Most of the chrysanthemums, which, along with carnations, are among the most common flowers at the parade because of their excellent lasting quality and variety of colors, are grown within a 150-mile radius of Pasadena. Typically, the flower heads are popped off and glued directly to the float. When a float designer's palette requires bright reds, poinsettias and carnations are employed. While some of these carnations are flown in from Colombia, most are California-grown. As the parade has evolved from a small local celebration to a made-for-TV event, carnations have become a crucial parade ingredient since they televise so well. Less telegenic are blue-red roses, which on screen end up looking, in the words of one designer, like prunes. Designers use mostly yellow, coral, and pink roses, and a few orange-red ones as well. As with the carnations and chrysanthemums, most of the roses are grown in California. Exotic flowers are used sparingly for dramatic effect. They include anthuriums from Hawaii; gladiolus from Florida; gerberas from Holland and California; tulips, lilacs, and forsythia from Europe; heliconia and ginger from Hawaii and Puerto Rico; and orchids from Singapore and Thailand. The variety of dried materials is similarly staggering. Onion seeds, 9 tons' worth, are bought for their black color and velvety texture. Beans of multiple colors, shapes, and sizes are trucked in from the nearby Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. And crushed walnut shells, from various suppliers, are blended with cornmeal to create lighter or darker skin tones. These dried materials are affixed to each float by some 500 pounds of glue." ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  4. You do realize that only a small portion of each float has actual roses on it, right? Everything is plant form, though. Seeds, leaves, hundreds of different flowers....My mom used to help glue the flowers on floats when she was a kid. She grew up in Pasadena and her dad had his office just off the parade route. Free parking for the family!

  6. Actually avoided the hangover this year. For every glass of wine I drank a glass of water inbetween. Walla! No hangover!
  7. Okay, so I just got up and turned on the tv to catch the rerun of our 2007 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade here in Southern California.
  8. At home watching an all time classic "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To the Forum", drinking some wine and conversing with friends from all over the globe. So, where is the first and where is the last bit o' earth to turn the new year? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  9. Okay, so the news agencies have their little boiler plate comments when it comes to skydiving...We can't have our own? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  10. http://www1.tcpalm.com/tcp/local_news/article/0,2545,TCP_16736_5245726,00.html Excerpt: "In the past, cumbersome umbrella-style parachutes covered more than 200 square feet and floated "like a dandelion in the wind," Moledzki said. But modern, lightweight nylon canopies are speedier because they can cover just 75 square feet — in fact, Moledzki's gear weighs just 19 pounds. "In the past, spectators would look up and see a sky diver thousands of feet up in the sky, but it felt detached," Moledzki said. "With high-performance swooping, when a competitor comes by you at 70-80 mph, your heart jumps into your chest and you become connected." 15. Just FYI for you AggieDave.... My shower head needed replacing, SO remembering your thread here and how much you touted this Kohler shower head to be the thang, I searched for this thread and ordered it. I'm pretty picky about the quality of water pressure my shower can deliver (lower water pressure that needs some help) and have been through several 'cheaper' shower heads in the past and know it takes alot of trial and error before getting it right. Started there....and saw how nice this shower head looks, so couldn't stop with just that. Ordered the complete shower set (sink faucet as well!).... Accepting donations for my spending spree now! Thanks alot! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

  18. Not necessarily the 'right thing' to pardon what Nixon did, but perhaps the right thing to do in that point of history, for the Nation. Think about it. The country was needing to heal from Viet Nam and all the turmoil that came with that debacle. The energy needed to be directed towards that endeavor. If the HUGE amount of time and effort needed to be split with following the Nixon trial and re-trial, and years of appeals, the country wouldn't have been able to focus it attention to healing quite so much. Just my .02 here. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
