  1. Click on my profile. And it's Ltdiver. Packing takes time and is a learning process. You'll discover things long after you leave the 'student nest'. Cool, you're packing with a hook. The design of packing is the same as when it's over the shoulder (like in the manual). Doreen is a great packing guru. She'll steer you right. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  2. Perris. Cool. Look me up next time you're there (weekends). I believe that Perris continues to use the Navigator. A 230 would be hard to PRO pack without a hook. Unless you're pretty tall. Are they teaching you to hook or flat pack? ltdiver PS: You're manual for the PD main canopy is near the bottom of this web page. Just click the link and learn.

    Daytona 500

You watched "Talladega Nights" now didn't you? Admit it. The conversion is now complete.... [diabolical laugh] ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  4. Another point that hasn't been raised in this thread is the issue of 'what if'. If there is an incident (god forbid) with any DZO's operation the first thing the FAA will look at is if EVERYTHING is in compliance with the law. If everything IS, then a DZO has little to worry about. If things AREN'T, then his ass is hung up to dry. Not only by the law, but by the public (read:family members of the injured). So, it's best to keep your nose clean and know you're in the right, than skirt the law and be found wanting...eventually. Cheaper, too.
  5. I was trying to be broad about the application of the law and not specific to the first poster's issue. However, to bring that into the picture...yes, go talk to the DZO/pilot about the issue and see what he has to say. If he does not want to comply then he knows what might be coming his way. You quoted from one of the 3 articles I supplied in my previous post to you. You quoted only 1 back to me. It's unfortunate that it takes someone 'getting caught' to bring them into the regs. If we're self-policing it should be 100% when it comes to this issue. Others above have quoted severe issues (and death) when maintenance issues and quality are ignored. Why does someone have to 'pay for their stubborness'? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  6. What, no response the the skydiving ntsb report I sent you? http://www.alameda-aero.com/news/newsletter/AACNewsletterApril2006.pdf and http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:hD6c32I2_AAJ:www.ntsb.gov/alj/O_n_O/docs/AVIATION/4583.pdf+Administrator+v.+Rawlins,+NTSB+Order+No.+EA-4583&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us&client=safari Add to that: http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:cLGgh097otkJ:www.ntsb.gov/alj/O_n_O/docs/AVIATION/5051.PDF+FAA+skydiving+pilots+compensation&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us&client=safari ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  7. Thanks for the follow-through response. Now we have the Interp and a case study to follow. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  8. Because I'm too lazy to type it myself.... http://www.futurecam.com/sightingIn.html ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  9. What kind of rig and canopy do you rent? Where do you jump? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  10. Perhaps he's from the 'old school' and needs to be brought up to speed? Thanks for bringing an experienced jump pilot's understanding and knowledge into the thread. Learning is still going on. Why stop the learning? This thread's become more than just the first poster's query. It's advancing current (and future) skydivers understanding on this aspect of the sport. So often we think only of the jump out of the plane as what we're involved in. We need to remember it's more than this...from DZ operations to jump pilot's certification. Nice to dust off the old SIM and crack the books on the FAA again. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  11. Exactly! Is free stick time compensation? The pilot gets paid nothing. I always tell students the jump is free, all they pay for is the training. http://www.alameda-aero.com/news/newsletter/AACNewsletterApril2006.pdf See the section in this article entitled: "Flying (Not) for Compensation or Hire". Got these boys into hot water and a 60 day suspension in the first narrative. Read further for a mention of skydiving operations and a reference to: "Administrators v. Rawlins, NTSB Order No. EA-4583" ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  12. Is this what you're looking for? Very very interesting read. May clear up some questions others have raised here about private pilots and compensation vs club members. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:cLGgh097otkJ:www.ntsb.gov/alj/O_n_O/docs/AVIATION/5051.PDF+FAA+skydiving+pilots+compensation&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us&client=safari **would have pulled up the .pdf file instead of the .html file, but the NTSB .pdf file seems to be broken at this time. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  13. Refresh my memory. Does the Valentine's Meet always do 10 rounds? If not, who was the deciding factor for 10 rounds...and when was this decided? If it's normally a 6 round meet, that was not nice to carry it on another day when others weren't planning on it. If it's always a 10 round meet, then those who couldn't stay needed to do their homework! edit to add: Did some homework via Omniskore and the NSL web pages...Every year (since 1998 when Tim and Ted started keeping score on their web page for us) the Valentine's Meet was 6 Rounds. All except 2002, where it was lengthened to 10 Rounds. So unless the meet managment informed the teams ahead of time that the meet would be lengthened it was dirty pool that they advanced it to 10 Rounds and expected those who wanted to try for a medal to stay around... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  14. Please do! Thanks! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  15. Divewerkz and Directe withdrew from the competition. I sent an e-mail to the judges, asking why. They haven't replied yet. Perhaps they're already off celebrating? I surmise that those two teams couldn't make a 2nd day of it. Pity. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  16. The Meet just concluded and the scores are posted.
  17. Being a 2 day meet I'm looking forward to seeing the scores tomorrow, too.
  18. No problem. In fact, the very last 3D movie I saw (pre-age 24) was Michael Jackson's (Universal Studios or Disneyland?). I'm happy I don't have to experience that ever again... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  19. Beautician who's salon Britney shaved her head in is going to sell her hair on e-bay. Minimum bid $25,000. Or so they said tonight in the Extra interview. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  20. Not to burst your bubble, but I have experienced 3D movies before I lost my eye at age 24. They were great and I know what I am missing. That, and the 3D pictures that you all get to experience watery eyes over as you stare into them trying to see 'the picture'... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  21. Horse kick. Keep trying on getting your landings down. One thing that helped me was getting video and coaching from one of the best canopy pilots in the world. Happens to be a friend as well. J.C. Oh, and yeah...I know what you mean about missing out on 3D movies. One of the few things that suck about having monovision. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  22. So, what are the scores so far? Looked at Omniskore (only a title on the page right now, after noontime!) Looked at NSL's page (no update since the 15th). Looked at AZ's page (nothing there either). So, how's it going there? Rumor has it that the French had a video bust on a round. And that was after posting a 27 on Round 1? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  23. E-mail sent to John. I'm sure he's already very aware of it, but just in case.... Very interesting. Too bad my left eye's retina is already gone. Heck, the whole eye for that matter....Waiting for a "Lindsay Wagner" bionic eye for me now... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  24. LOL. However, you'd be AMAZED how many other people seem to hold the same belief. It's not unique to her. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
