  1. And last year's Nationals was at Lake Wales . . . I really don't think black was inappropriate for that amount of green and white definately would have sucked when the lenses fogged and, er, uh, when we nicked some clouds. Another reason to love the 'desert' for large competitions, huh. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  2. Haven't relied on just the later, so can't compare just one to the other. I do both. What's nice at the DZ where I jump is that jump run is north/south. So....when the tandem/video get set-up they're either facing east or west (to keep the sunlight in the proper orientation). So, on deployment you track -across- line of flight and (if your canopy opens on heading) your canopy flys that way too...AWAY from the tandem. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  3. Yes, Yes. Of course. Yet, people still skydive in those part of the world, ya know. And...wasn't the U.S. 1999 Nat's held in a swampy part of our country? I know the 1998 World Games (Finland) was over a highly tree/grass/green bush DZ. Dress for success of where you'll be jumping (and competing). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  4. How about the dark green grass and foliage of the 'wet' portions of the globe? Perhaps light jumpsuits with black gloves would be preferrable there. I know we get used to the dry, light desert background of Perris, Elsinore, and Eloy, around here. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  5. Yes. Tracking ensures horizonal separation, deploying lower....vertical. Being heads up to keep track of the tandem canopy before flipping over....noting it's position again...once you're open...helps to keep the skies safer. It'd be good to hear from some seasoned TI's here as well on this thread. I'm sure they've seen alot in their -years- of experience. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  6. That's why I back track while the tandem canopy inflates. Consult with your TI and ask what altitude they're in the saddle after a cutaway. You might be surprised. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  7. I watch for full canopy inflation as well before flipping over and deploying, JP. However, I was asking this question of tonyhays. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  8. So, I guess you don't worry about a tandem cutaway, then? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  9. Interesting question. My gut feeling is no. Of course this opens up the can of worms that if the person is that green, should they be jumping a camera at all. I believe a sidem mount to be a bigger hazzard to the wearer than a top mount. As of other people on the skydive well you choose who you jump with.....
  10. Newbie freeflyers should NOT have a camera on there head if they dont know how to fly.... VERY true. I completely agree. However, if a cameraflyer thinks back to when they first put a camera on their head I bet you'd hear stories of their learning curve. For instance....(a story on myself)....one of my first cameraflyer skydives from an Otter left me on the step....not yet turned around to face the door....as the 2-way left! I gasped in 'horror' (read embarressment) as I realized they had already left as I turned around (still clinging to the outside of the plane!). I had started cameraflying from a Caravan and C-182. Both these planes were of no problem getting out, set-up, and launched from. The Otter was another story when you considered PV (at Perris) has a handle that is MILES away from the door and a step that is far down the fuselage! I know cameraflyers who have to LEAP for the handle...then turn around and set-up. Even now (5 years later) my leg gets bruised as I 'hold on' to the door frame with my foot as I reach FAR away from the door for the back handle. Sucks, too, when the pilot chooses to climb DURING jump run and doesn't cut the engines either! Anyway....a person can be completely safe to fly with, but put them in a new situation (i.e. mine was a new plane and step/handle scenario) and they have even more to learn than a regular RW or vRW does. Heck, I even had my AFFI rating when I took up camera 2 years later. :^) ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  11. Or top mount it. I know several freeflyers who do, including the camera flyer for last years top finishing intemediate team at nationals. TRV on an Optik. Yes, he can do this. Of course. Yet, wouldn't it be a slightly better idea to limit the hazards to other freeflyers as he learns? Doesn't a top-mounted camera have a better chance of wounding a fellow freeflyer when you're in close proximity? (when you're a newbie). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  12. This is a good balance. Wish more cameraflyer-want-to-be's would take your advice and develop as flyers before mounting a camera on their head. It makes for a more complete and fun adventure! Some days, fly camera....other days touch people! I actually feel sorry for those who have boxed themselves into a corner and only know one discipline (camera). Must be a rather lonely existence to ONLY be a voyeur your entire skydiving career. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  13. If your set on freeflying with a camera...my suggestion.....sell the TRV22 and buy a PC (unless you have the dough enough to have both on hand). You've already surmised correctly that it just might be prudent to have a side mount camera when freeflying. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  14. I saw a freeflyer with a TRV22 sidemounted on an Optik here at Perris a few months ago. Yes, it DID look large and cumbersome on it's mount...at little TOO much, IMO. Seem like it would be a prime target for riser strike. Question. Why did you buy a TRV22 if you knew you'd like to sidemount a video camera? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  15. Don't do it! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  16. I'll second that!! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  17. Read the review HERE for starters (click on the review button on the left). Again, my opinion (and the opinion of most cameraflyers I know), a camera helmet worth its salt will rachet down on your head and have form fitted liners. This will make the fit be -only- to -your- head and it will not move. There are many systems out there. Pro-tec is not one of them. Even with the camera fitting assembly. Do a search on these forums and you'll see alot of information about camera helmets...their likes and dislikes. If you're thinking of something lightweight and versatile, look at Bonehead. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  18. Just my .02. If I were jumping something as expensive and nice as a 10D, I'd go with a more secure set-up than a Pro-tec helmet. Something that doesn't move around -at all- on your head in freefall. I know a Pro-tec works (in a minimal way), but why compromise? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

And so goes another great man. He lifted the spirits of this country and breathed hope back into its life. Thank you, Mr. President, for serving. The world will remember you. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

  22. You think he'd be able to talk over the volume we know will all ensue? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  23. Format several times for data of medium importance. If it's anything of any use to crooks - take the HD out and smash it. For a 2GB drive its not worth the risk. Or use something like this.....very good. Thanks for this link. I'll have to see if the dial-up modem will work here at home (now that I've upgraded to DSL for my present (Mac) computer). That is, unless they make this HD eraser in CD form... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  24. Yeah, i kinda like that picture too.... Thanks! It looks nice in full res. too.
  25. I nominate Quade and Billvon. I second that. But we've got to give them cool pen names for the media flash! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
