  1. That's not quite what I meant. If that's the way I came across, my apologies. What I was trying to get across was that if you have tha attitude that whatever whuffos talk about or do is boring then that's kind of one-dimensional thinking: "skydiving is all that matters". From what you've said, I'd hardly call you one-dimensional. Then again, from reading some of your posts, I think 3-dimensional would also be an understatement. As far as Emma's comment that whuffos get bored quickly... I totally understand. My wife gets that way. Basically it's because we naturally fall into skydiver-speak, which most people don't understand. I've found most people respond postively if I avoid terms like "AAD" and "big-way" just describe the concept as if I were teaching it to someone for the first time. They seem to get into it more and ask more questions.
  2. Hey Folks. I have some insurance questions that I'm looking for answers to, and I can't ask my agent. I asked my old agent (after my wife blurted out "What about your skydiving?"), who basically told me I'd be uninsurable due to my hobby. There must be another way. I'm looking to get some more life insurance but there are all those pesky questions they ask you. Do you scuba dive? (Yes.) Do you skydive? (Yes.) Have you ever (insert fun sport here)? If I answer honestly, I've been told that I can't get the insurance. That isn't an option for anyone considering starting a family. What if some whuffo hits me on the highway and kills me? If I "forget" that I do the activities when I am filling out the paperwork and such, what happens? I've heard that after three years of paying premiums, the policy is in full force no matter what your cause of death might be. Including skydiving, even if you didn't put that on the paperwork. True or not true? I know that the insurance coverage would be useless for skydiving-related death during the first three years. Also, if I somehow neglect to mention the skydiving, and I croak for some other reason, isn't the issue of the skydiving completely irrelevant? The policy would be paid automatically, right? If there are any skydiving insurance agents (heh!), or skydiving attorneys that can provide some solid info on the topic, it would be great. I know that some of this is state-specific, and I'm in Maryland. What has everyone else done about life insurance in regards to skydiving? I know the USPA coverage would kick in, but that wouldn't be enough to take care of a mortgage and expenses for a spouse. I'm certainly not trying to burn in, but shit happens. And if you cut away, there is always the slim chance that shit could happen on your reserve, and you'd just be shit outta luck. Thanks! Justin
  3. hey ...well done with the feet up flying..another new member of the tribe...I coach freefly ...and find that most dudes/dudettes try to rush things too much ...taking it nice and slowly is the way to do it ...welcome to space.
  4. Look on the bright side, Diva : in 18 hours I will be in Holland, driving out to a DZ on a beautiful little island - just me, moooose, Ben and wingnut, driving out in wingi's car. We'll take the ferry to the island, pitch our tents and then party party party! Then on Friday, Saturday and Sunday we are going to jump our asses off! There, did that make you feel better? *evil grin* /s
  5. Hey, I'm single AND skydive... :) Good luck with that situation... a "friend" of mine was getting into skydiving (she had 50+ jumps) and quit it because of her man.. it was sad. Kevin
  6. sweet, thanks for having me. The plan was to save all the money up front for the AFP program so that I could jump at will, however I think I have worked it out so I can pay in segments and get up there sooner, and still manage to make atleast 4 jumps every 2 weeks. OR I could sell my car, all my computers and other unnesicary nift gadgets.....HUMM
  7. I'm not sure why it is taboo to post anonymously, as who I am and where I live have absoultely no bearing on this thread. The only thing thing that is important are my thoughts (which some may choose to argue). I do like your opinion, and agree with your thoughts. Different strokes are what makes this world a paradise, and sometimes a living hell. Without such opposing extremes, we could never find a happy medium. Until I feel the need to give a name, Yoo can call me: Anonymous
  8. I hate to do this, but reading this thread really irritates me. There is more to life than skydiving. Granted, few things are as exciting as battling gravity (IMO), but you have to understand that some people just don't have any interest in it. Just because you love it, doesn't mean that the whole world has to hear about it everytime they see you. I love skydiving just as much as the rest of you, but I do it for myself. Not so I can run around and tell my friends and everyone I see what I did on the weekend. I'm not out to impress anyone. If people want to talk to me about it, I'll be glad to converse. But I don't pigeon-hole myself as 'just' a skydiver. That is a really bad way to go through life. "Whuffos", I find, are usually alot more interesting than most skydivers I know, because they do other things with their time than skydive. They are aware that there is a whole world going on out there. It's so nice to talk to people about other things than skydiving, like world events, everyday stories, and the like.(Although, I do have to agree with a previous post - babies is where I draw the line). If you don't care about your family and friends lives, and more importantly, the things that are important to THEM, then by all means continue to be selfish and close-minded by only discussing and doing what YOU find interesting and makes YOU happy. This post is most likely over your head as it is. But, my advice to some of you is: Embrace the differences that people have. Enjoy talking and learning about things that you never knew before. Understand that not everyone loves the things that you love. And, last but certainly not least, open your mind to new people and experiences (as you did with skydiving). You'll be a richer person for it.
  9. Welcome to the new life, skip! Be lucky!
  10. Who are the normal people? People, who all their life sit on the ground and see to the sky with open mouth? No-no-no, I don't think so. I think that only skydivers are Really Normal People. How can you see the sky and even don't try to be there?
  11. Where on the net could I get some more information about combined SL and AFF program? Ieva

  14. yep ...tandem students are in a gray area....but they are there for the ride....so its a bit like taking a ride on a rollercoaster.....and it is like hauling cargo
  15. Ok, i have been jumping for about 2 years now. however this year i have really kicked it into overdrive. since march, i have completed about 70+ jumps, and have really taken a liking to rw. previously i was a freak,(although at heart i still enjoy the occasional free fly), but recently i have competed in the first ISL(indiana skydiving league) 4-way competition. i basically fell in love with rw after that. (btw, cameramonkey, i still need to get a copy of the video for round 6 from you if i could). after finishing with round 6 on sunday morning, we started taking advantage of the otter we had that day with progressivley larger ways. starting with 5, then 8, then a couple of 12,and then to top off the day i was able to participate in a 20 way(which i flew my slot and took my grip). and now for the question. at what level of experience have others started jumping bigger ways. and what kind of jumps did you do to help practice for these. just curious. thanks for the responses. jaybird

    Ear Troubles

Just curious has anybody out there gotten tubes for their ears to help with clearing? I've had problems since childhood and am getting sick of having to sit on the ground with ear troubles. If so what's the cost? Thanx in advance. CYA
  17. I started with S/L. There is only one thing I really enjoyed about it. And that was that I had to rely on myself. And it was up to me to do it right. -Derek D-24034 SCR-14335
  18. Let me guess, you're a fag, right ? Oh, oops, this isn't forum.fuckedcompany.com.

  22. Hey guys...I am fixing to do the first of my freefall training (I'm doing static line) in a couple of weeks and I am kinda worried about the whole sensory overload thing. On my previous jumps I don't remember seeing anything until my chute opened. Is this going to affect me much when I do my first freefall?? I did my first practice pilot chute throw without a hitch but I still didn't remember anything visual-wise...I guess I just need some comforting..it's not every day that you jump out of a plane you know!! Thanks, Littlewing
  23. hi skydiver! i only want to tell you all over the world that yesterday was one of my best days i've ever had! i startet aff last year in september and at level 7 i wasn't able to jump out the plane - the fear was too much - half an year later i did an aff jump again - at my second level 7 my teachers forced me to jump out - it was the best they could do for me and now one month later i have 35 jumps, yesterday i got my licence and did my first 4 way exit (an horny gorilla), sitfly and first my first try of head down! people i am sooo happy. it was hard for me but now i love it more than anything else! blue skies !!!! barbara
