Ya, unfortunately its gotta be skip proof and kinda rugged since it WILL go running and I WILL drop it at least once. That might rule out the all powerful iPod. I hate these decisions. These's a billion players out there and I'll buy the one that sucks! Arrrghh

Im looking at getting am MP3 player. Ive looked at the iRiver, the iPod, and the Rio Nitrus, but I dont know a whole lot about them. I did a search and we've not talked about this in 6 months or so. I figure some other people probably got new ones and will have some updated info for me. Gonna use it for general purpose listening as well as running and maybe a song database for video stuff at the DZ. Thanks JC

I would definately agree. I just sent back a demo canopy to PD. When I called to request the demo I was quizzed about experience and jump numbers and Kolla at PD actually called my DZ and inquired about my experience. Not that I minded. I thought it was great that PD was doing that. As to the original question: I agree with the first post. I think theyre targeting a specific group of experienced canopy pilots and the ad is simply asking if youre one of those pilots JC

who has actually made serious $$$ from skydiving?
SniperCJ replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I made $10 on a SINGLE pack job once! -
What do you tell people that say Skydiving isnt a sport?
SniperCJ replied to Conundrum's topic in The Bonfire
I tell em "Oh? And golf IS a sport??" -
Thats one great looking kitty Michelle! JC

I use the 28mm on my Rebel shooting video (tandems mostly) with a Sony 0.6. That combination shoots close to the same picture ie, what you see on the video is about what you get from the still camera. Ive been pretty happy with it. JC

Have you rigger make you one that slides under your reserve flap up near the top (where it 'hinges'). I'm sure he/she will know what I'm talking about and has seen one before. And before you ask, no Ive never heard of this device hampering a reserve deployment before. In fact I had a reserve ride a couple weeks ago and the deployment wasnt hampered at all. JC

Readers Digest Skydiving Article

Unfortunately, I agree with Tonto. Yes, he did what is widely considered a heroic thing in sticking with the student and pulling the main. However, he also complicated the problem by giving the student a 2-out situation. He 'should' have pulled at 2K. Its a tough situation and one that I hope, once I get an AFF rating, I never have to face. JC -
QuoteBalloons and Helicopter exits would probably benefit from the faster frame-rate of the 10D too.Quote Hell, coming fom a guy that's still shooting a Rebel 2000 'faster frame rate' is anything over 1 frame a second (if that...). Either of those would be blazing fast in comparison. JC

I spotted my gear and made it back to the DZ for a stand up landing in the peas and finished the job I was paid for. I had one guy who I really respect at the DZ pull me aside a few days later and give me props for finishing the job. Really affirmed that I had made the right decision. JC

OK, there i was doing a tandem video. Flip on my back, vid the opening, flip back and toss. Lineover. Cutaway. OK, so I'm good to go under the reserve. I spot my main and freebag and theyre both going down in a field 2 south of the DZ. Looks good for recovery. I can still make the DZ and finish out the tandem video that I'm getting paid for. So...Do you recover you equipment or do you finish your job. What would YOU do? JC

As the name might suggest, i'm really good at surgical rifle shooting. I just came back from a sniper competition last weekend. I won it. $1500 richer! Yee haa!!! JC

Not a bad question at all. Yes, I tried to clear it for a bit (when I say a bit, I mean, "not long at all"). A couple of point: - a lineover isnt an automatic cutaway. They can be cleared in some circumstances by pumping the risers. Looking back at the video, I really think I could have cleared it, however I'm not going to second guess myself on this one. - This wasnt my first rodeo. With 2 previous cutaway in the books, I felt comfortable working with it. I had altitude and a mostly inflated canopy that wasnt spinning violently. Trumpetfish: When I said spinning on my back after deployment, I did mean "under canopy and spinning". Looking at the video I wasnt in a really violent spin on my back, mighta just felt that way... Bigun: It was good working with you this weekend! SniperJohn

How many jumps have you made without a malfunction?
SniperCJ replied to Skymonkey13's topic in The Bonfire
See what happens!! Lineover on August 16th! Answer a question like this at your own peril!! JC -
No, truth be told,,,it was way faster than that. Like you said,,,produce the idea and act. More like "simultaneous grab,,sweep right. sweep left" Its done that way on the ground to build that muscle memory, since actual building of that muscle memory would be real costly at $50 a repack.

It flew good. I had to ride the risers a bit to make it back to the peas (to finish the tandem video), so I didnt get to fly it much, but it was good.

...at 4000ft after filming a tandem deployment. Pitched out and started spinning on my back. Looked up and saw a nice little lineover closing off the left 4' of my canopy. Dicked around with it briefly before deciding things just wernt going my way and look-right-grab, look-left-grab, strip-right-sweep, strip left sweep...See ya! Couple seconds later im under a nice white PD143R. Stand up landing in the peas and jump 737 goes into the books as a success. Yaa Haw! JC

Ive been pretty close (50 ft) to a redtail hawk on 2 occasions. One of the neatest things ive experienced while skydiving. Ive always wondered if that graceful creature was wondering "what the hell is THAT clumsy looking thing?" JC

Anybody get this one? If so what is it? Calling ony sometime tomorrow, but wanted a heads up. JC

Chic, Do you use an additional strap over the top of the D-box or just go with the closure as manufactured by BH? Im not sure I feel too secure with just that wire threaded thru the 'hinge' thing. Thanks for the info. That sounds like it might work. JC

Cool. Last winter when we couldnt jump for several weeks I scratch built a glider also. Im in the midst of scratch building a twin engine "A" frame cannard pusher now. Trying to get it finished before I have to move. Oddly enough I really dont have any desire to FLY them. I just like to build them.
