Congrats on the new addiction!! Youre gonna love it, but you already know that dont you!? First off, get that wife certified too. If you get way overboard addicted like most of us here, she is gonna beat ur ass for staying at the DZ too much instead of coming home occasionally. If she is there jumping with you she wont care! 1. I dont know a thing about Skydive CT's program, sorry. 2. Not a bad plan. Its more fun to jump when its warm. 3. Yes, its possible to finish AFF in 2 weeks. Depending of course on your finances. Those first 7 jumps are pretty expensive. You could conceivably finish in one week really, but why rush it. 4. The benefits of staying there to finish are that you will be training where you will be jumping. The instructors will know you and your training and can advise you better than if they have never flown with you before. Youre going to have a lot of questions and its easier to answer some of them if youve trained with someone. Also, the other jumpers will have seen you progress through your training instead of you suddenly appearing as a certified jumper and no one has seen you since your AFF 1. I took most of my training at another DZ and it took me a while to break in to the atmosphere here at my home DZ. Best of luck to you Jay! Blue Skies JC

I had 2 in my first 100 jumps (I now have 360). First was on jump 29 the next was on jump 98. I recognized that I had a problem immediately on both. I tried to fix the problem for a short time and when I realized the problem couldnt be fixed in the time I had to fix it, I made the decision to chop em. I am glad that I got a cutaway out of the way early because I dont feel like I'll get complacent and start thinking it'll always open. I never expect it to open. On the other hand if you go 1000 jumps never having had a problem, you start always thinking itll open. JC

I wouldnt even attempt to compare the 2. Theyre definately 2 different animals. Ive been flying the Diablo at about 1.4 for 200 jumps now and I havnt even begun to explore the performance of it. It turns very fast. I jumped my girlfriend's Tri loaded at just over 1.6 and it felt like driving a 4 door Chevy compared to a nice sports car. You CAN probably compare the openings tho. THeyre both very nice opening canopies. Blues JC

Haaaa, nope, wasnt Sis. Dunno who packed it. Probably 'Bob'. He packs for her sometimes.

This weekend I got some keen insight into the mind of the skychick. This guy (who shall remain unnamed, but we'll call 'Bob') decided he wanted to jump his skychick girlfriend's canopy. We''ll call the skychick, well...Skychick. So, Bob gets on the load leaving Skychick on the ground. My group was out on the creeper pad dirt diving when there was some commotion and looking up into the air. Get out there and find that someone has had a cutaway. Well we can all see the main streaming away from the DZ and no one sees the freebag. After a couple second someone identifies the miscreant and says "Thats Bob". Skychick hears that its her boyfriend Bob with the cutaway and in typical skychick fashion, plaintively wails "Ohhhh, my canopy!!" Forget about poor ole traumatized Bob! But my poor poor canopy!! Damn Skychicks! Heeeee Blues! CJ

Ive had slinks on my Diablo and my Safire before that. Theyre easy to install but like someone said before, get someone to check your work. It can be done wrong. Theyre easy to remove and re-install if you get another canopy. It also makes it easier to get the slider down over the risers. Be sure to include them in your rig inspections and replace them if they get worn. Blues CJ

You are NOT gonna do ur 100th nekkid on a weekend when I'M NOT GONNA BE THERE!!?? (Goin to Vegas Baybee!) Damn,,,get some video at least! CJ

I'm a certified adenaline junkie and this seemed to be one more way to get my fix. Also the gf had some friends who had stated jumping and were dragging her ot the dz where she lived so we started at the same time. Almost 3 years later and still going strong. CJ

I second the Skydive Dallas invitation. Cyndi, I and my gf will make it a 4 way. Sorry, you cant jump my second rig tho. Well, you could, but youll only get one jump out of it since it has no main. JC

"Just curious, what's Blackwater Training Center?" Blackwater is a very high speed training center in North Carolina used by Police, Military and Spec Ops groups. I was up there shooting in a sniper competition ( I placed a miserable third after leading the field for 2 days up till the last event) a couple years ago. They have long range, short range, moving targets, multiple shoot houses, waterways for amphibious assault. It a very nice facility. CJ

I agree. Great movie. Read the book about a year ago and the movie did the book justice. Very intense. The part where everyone is making preparations for the operation and 'getting their minds right' mirrors what I see and do before a particularly intense SWAT operation. (certainly not to say Ive ever experienced ANYTHING that intense). Go see it! JC

Born in Dallas TX (USA) Currently in Richardson, TX (suburb of Dallas) Home DZ - Skydive Dallas (north of Dallas about 45 minutes actually) First jump at Skydive Houston (did most of my training there since the GF was living there at the time

I downsized 2 sized on my container however I had my rigger install "padding" in the bottom of the pack tray. Its a 1/2 inch foam pad covered in cordura. No possible snag hazard and it has worked great for over 200 jumps. I'm not saying I would recommend this but at the time I didnt wanna buy a new container and its worked great. JC

Dont ever doubt Marcinko because its true? Or dont ever doubt Marcinko cuz he'll beat ur ass if you do?? I had to stop reading his books after about the 4th one cuz the poo poo was getting a tad too deep for me to wade through. Really liked the first (autobiographical) one. CJ

Sony. And if you found the PC9 for $808, buy 2. Thats pretty friggin cheap.

I JUST got my Mirage G3. I havnt jumped it yet so I cant comment there, but I will say there are a lot of them around my DZ so that says something (lots of Vector 3's too, only one Voodoo that ive seen). Ill jump it this weekend so Ill let ya know. I love the way it looks. The fit and finish is excellent. Rigger had no complaints about closing it. He even recommended the Mirage when I was looking around. Pin protection is second to none. My gf also ordered one and it came w/o the hip rings and the leg pads were short. Also I ordered mine with "OOH" on the cutaway and it didnt turn out like I thought. (Didnt think about half the world reading it as "HOO"). Anyway, she called Mirage and they were very helpful about getting her info on sending hers back, gave her a Fed-Ex account number and all, and said it would get fixed post haste. When she mentioned the cutaway handle issue on mine, the rep said to keep that handle as a spare and they would re-make the handle with something else on it at no charge. Pretty slick if ya ask me. Ill let ya know how quickly we get it all back, but I bet its not over a couple of weeks. Its pretty comfortable on the ground, but its still stiff from being new so it rubs a couple of places. Im sure thatll go away as it gets broken in. Ya, it was pricey, but if youre thinking about Vec3, Odyessy, and Voodoo, there isnt THAT much difference. Blues JC

Ummmm, I almost hate to bring it up but... Unless youre jumping a SOS system (which I doubt), then youre pulling a soft handle for the cutaway. In a spinning mal youre more likely to have a harder time gripping the cutaway handle than the reserve handle due to the forces involved. So the "hard to grip, hard to pull" argument leaks a little. Dont get me wrong, Ive pulled silver twice. I liked the feel of the metal in my hand and the fact that you can hook it with your thumb when you pull. Nice cozy feeling. Personal choice either way you go

What have you seen on cutaway or reserve handles?
SniperCJ replied to LawnDart21's topic in The Bonfire
I have "UT-OH" on the cutaway handle and "AHH" on the reserve handle. I like "Plan B" too tho. JC -
Whooo hoooo!! New Mirages! And mine is WAY Cooler than Susan's! Ok, ok, hers is quite pretty too... (...but mine is cooler...) Yee haw, now if it'll just get warn enough to jump em! CJ

Roy at Rigs and Things is a great guy to do business with. Bought my and my gf's first rigs from him as well as a buncha other stuff. He's always been good to work with and Ive gotten some good deals from him. Recently ordered my new Mirage from him as well and anxiously awaiting delivery. (No disrespect meant to all the other great dealers out there!) Blues! CJ

Ive had my Dolphin for about 2 years. Ive never had a problem with it and it is plenty comfortable. I do both freeflailing and RW. True, its nothing fancy, but its also a fraction the cost of the Wings and other rigs. If this is a first rig that you may not be keeping for an extended period of time, I would lean toward the Dolphin. Youll have more money for jumps and experience and other toys. If its a second rig that youre downsizing to and youre pretty sure youll keep it for a while (and spending the larger amount of money isnt gonna haunt you) get the Wings (I mean, hey, cool points have to figure in there somewhere). I looked at the Wings before I ordered my Mirage (which isnt here yet Dammit!) and it seems to be a pretty nice rig. (See, I followed my own advice....) Blues! CJ

Breakoff - usually 4000 - 5000 depending on the jump Pull - 3000 Flatline - 1500 Ive heard the flatline a couple of times during lower than normal deployments followed by longer than normal snivels. Its this cool trilling sound rather than a regular flatline. JC

Dayum! Those guys have a MUCH better truck that we have! Our assault van bites! Nice AR15's too. We have the same ones but without the ACOG (ACOG is the sighting device on top of the rifle). Meth labs are fun to bust. Theres that whole adrenaline rush wondering if youre gonna get blow'd up ur not,,,kinda like jumpin. Not to mention watchin the bad guy do the 'doper shuffle' when we hit the door and run inside. Whata hoot! CJ
