Warrior Elite - The forging of SEAL class 228 Follows BUDS class 228 thru BUDS training. They had a total of 137 men on the 228 roster during training and graduated 20 men. Pretty intense training.

Note from Ed O'Beirne from Conceptus, Inc.
SniperCJ replied to quade's topic in Photography and Video
When he e-mailed me he said he just ran across the post on the forum. I think it speaks volumes of people like Ed and the Mirage folks who check the boards occasionally to see whats going on in their areas. Way cool! I'll post my thoughts also on the new switch when it gets here. -
Diablo 150 at about 1.5

Without repeating too much, it sounds like we typically get the same shots, its just how much of those shots we shoot. My DZ keeps the videos at 6-7 minutes long (when I started I got some verbage about some study that said 6 minutes was about the average attention span or something). But anyway thats how long they are. Most of our TMs really help out in the air by doing a couple of spins. If they look like they arent going to, I'll orbit them at least once and get a high shot. One of the TMs and I regularly dock and spin together. Its a pretty good visual on the video. I, like someone else montioned, am really concentrating on my back flying so as to add to the 'toolbox'. Keep learning, keep trying different things. One of the worst things that can happen is for a group to come in and they all get the "same" video, due to lack of creativity on the part of the video staff. JC

I just got a very nice e-mail from Ed at Conceptus with an offer of a new switch, an explanation of what was probably going wrong, and a description of the improvement he has made to keep it from happening again. Way cool! JC

Yes, Robzay, I'm sniper from SDD. Only one as far as I know... Beowulf, Very fun jumps. Great job on those docks! Better than mine...

Take that Diablo off the list. Its a high performance canopy unlike the others on the list. Its got a very fast turn rate thatll scare the bejeezes out of you of youre not careful. Had to clean out my shorts the first couple times I jumped mine and hauled down on the risers too hard. JC

Great weekend of jumping! Lets see, I did: 2 CREW jumps a Hoop dive a GREAT Horny Gorilla some RW a tandem camera (work) jump a tandem camera (work) jump with some very nice headdown maneuvering on my part to get the botched exit It dont GET any better !!

Bout the only good one Ive seen was the girl that owns Freedom Means Choice jumpsuits. Its the FMC Logo (sit and headdown freeflyers silluetted against the moon) on her arm. Lools great.

Thought about going to a hand switch, but I REALLY like having all the junk self contained on / in the helmet without the hassle of running cords down my sleeve and all. Maybe I'll buy em all (tongue, bite, blow, hand) and do a big product review... Dont hold your collective breaths on THAT idea... Mike, you said you had dealt with the peeps at Conceptus. How did you contact them?? JC

It looks like its a 4 button remote and yes, one of the buttons triggers the shutter. I agree about the danger of hitting the wrong button in freefall. I would nave to tie it to my hand or something (duct tape!) cuz I would drop it. JC
-
Good, its not just me. Do you use a helmet with a chincup and if so, does the bite switch require much jaw movement? I dont want the jaw movement of the bite switch to move the helmet.

I was on the Pier Media site earlier and they have a new remote / radio controlled device that acts as a Cam Eye and shutter release for the still camera. It does everything the Cam Eye does, serves as a remote for the video camera on the ground (rew, FF, play, etc), trips the shutter on your still camera, and gives you a visual cue when the shutter trips so you know it did. Looked pretty cool. Kinda pricy at $230. Wondered if anyone else had seen one or heard anything about it. JC

I have a Conceptus tongue switch that is sticking on me. I jump and KNOW I havnt shot an entire roll of film and land with the entire roll gone. Its really screwing with my tandem shooting. Anyone have this happen? Also, anyone have contact info for Conceptus? Thanks JC

Ive been a cop for 14 years. Ive come VERY close to killing someone about half a dozen times (I'm not talking about drawing the pistol, pointing it at people, etc, but actually killing them,,,big difference). Twice have been from a sniper position. Kinda a different feeling being a hundred yards away about to kill someone posing no threat to you personally and he doesnt even know youre there. Takes a very different mindset than killing in the heat of combat. But as someone pointed out, the gunfight starts long before the guns are out. A good book on the subject of killing and the mindset involved is "On Killing" by Col Dave Grossman. I have a good friend who is a sniper in another city who killed someone (from a sniper position) a couple of years ago. He has told me of the ensuing investigation and grand jury hearing and all. He said the ordeal was way more traumatic than the shooting ever was. JC

I'm workin tonight. Gonna go ruin a speed dealer's day by breakin his door, pointing guns at him, taking all his dope and money, and then adding insult to injury,,,take him to jail. Typical Friday night around the SniperCJ workplace..

I bought the Sony lens for my PC9 (30mm threads) and Ive been pretty happy with it I dont, however, use it for 4 way. I shoot 4 way with no wide angle. I use the .6 for tandem and AFF.

I had my first successful tandem shoot in a sit last weekend. Ive been trying it some in the past and always dropped out. Last weekend I was shooting passenger weighing about 220 on a TM about 190 and I was sitting like a fool! And that was with my wings tucked under my leg straps. Got me thinking about what I could do with the wings all the way unfurled...

If you choose shutter priority and let the camera choose the aperature, focusing at about 3 ft (tandem work range), is the depth of field going to be deep enough to get good exit shots? Those shots just after exit with the plane in the background (obviously farther away than 7 or 8 ft, which is what my lens says DOF will be at f11)? Also, do you refocus or go to autofocus when you land to get landing shots (since youre farther away now that youre on the ground)?? Ive been setting the focus to give me a depth of field range covering about 3ft to infinity (about f11) and running into problems of the passenger or TM's hands getting closer than 3 ft and being fuzzy. Or is it just a case of "you cant get everything, so focus on the freefall shots"? Comments will be greatly appreciated!! JC

Hi Brent. Good to meet you. Youre one of those videographers I aspire to be like. Thanks for stopping in! We're gonna pick your brain for all its worth! JC

Welcome to skydiving! I'm a police officer working undercover narcotics investigations and also a sniper on our SWAT team (hence the name). Its a hoot! JC

Fly camera, I mean... Entanglements, added equipment costs, steep learning curve, little recognition (unless you screw it up...), etc Why do we do it then? The massive amounts of money we make? (

Ive got a PC9 top mounted on a ProTek type helmet with a chin cup (Sky Dance? Sky Systems? One of those). Canon Rebel mounted on an L plate on my forehead. At any rate, its worked very well for me and it wasnt super expensive. One thing I would probably change is to get the TRV type Sony for a top mount. It isnt really THAT much lower profile, but every little bit helps. I had a guy just the other day slam the door of the Otter open hard enought to bend my roll cage when it hit the top of my helmet. I dont like side mounts because of the way it feels off balance on my head plus the greater possibility of a riser strike or catch. Eventually I'll probably go to a flat top of some sort. I hear Bonehead was going to do ao narrow version of the flat top. I'll take a hard look at that one. Till then I'm quite satisfied with my little setup. And the customers and 4 way teams seem happy as well. Thats what counts. JC

Ive actually offered to wear mine when we do entries during SWAT raids and such, but the commander wont let me go without the kevlar helmet to wear the helmet cam. Woulda been pretty helpful on the one where I almost shot the guy... JC

Congrats on the 200th! I too keep a copy of "High Flight" in my office to remind me of the wonders of this sport. JC
