  1. to go with your solitair pic. Fly it like you stole it!
  2. I hate to say it but go to the doctor. Only time I ever had them I was having an allergic reaction to an antibiotic I'd taken several times in the past with no problems. They gave me a steriod shot and pills, which cleared everything up in a day or so. Fly it like you stole it!
  3. Even though the book may be BS it is a good picture. So few people get down on the animals level, not realizing how good of a picture it makes. Fly it like you stole it!
  4. It's not the cypress I'm worried about, it's the reserve pin getting bent or pushed up that worries me. I have been hit hard enough on the reserve pin cover that I almost fell off the bench. (It was by someone just off student status) Plus, I always turn around after they are done checking and ask if they saw color in the pilot chute window, you'd be amazed at how many people don't remember. They went threw the motions of checking but don't remember what they checked, they became complacent because they had never found anything wrong with someones gear. To the person who said pulling on the hacky will show if you have a monkey fist: Pulling 3 to 4 inches of the pilot chute out then trying to stuff it back in is more than likely to cause problems than leaving it alone. For example a premature deployment due to that material sneaking back out. Every person when they get on the plane is taking a risk and has to make a choice when it comes to thier gear. 1st when they buy the gear, poptop/simi-exposed top/non-exposed top, RSL/no RSL, Cypres/no Cypres. Then when they maintain thier gear, reserve packjob every 120/pencil pack every 120s, replace lines per jumps/replace lines when they break. For example I fold and tuck my pilot chute in a very specific way to prevent a hard pull and a premi, by someone tugging on it both of those are lost because they will never be able to get it back in the pouch right on jumprun. Finally do they let anyone give them a pin check, someone they trust only, or no one? For some people the answer is yes anyone can, but for most it's not. The best person to check your gear is someone who is familiar with your gear, it could be someone with the same kind of rig (ie. someone else with a Mirage should know how to check the reserve pin without opening the side flaps), someone you have shown how to check your gear, (ie. my reflex main tuck tab had to be tucked only under the side flaps not sides and top). The rule of thumb is never start pulling, fixing, checking someones gear without asking them 1st. Some people will say yes, some people will say yes but tell you what you can and can't check, some people will say no. No matter what they say it's not personal, they don't think you will do a bad gear check, they have just made a choice as to what they will allow people to check. Remember just cause someone has checked you gear does not mean they knew what they were looking for on your gear and you could still have problems. Every person needs to be as educated as they can be on thier gear and understand how it works and what it's specific weaknesses are, then they must check it on the ground more than once a day to make sure nothing happened. Pack your own gear as often as you can, cause it's rare for a packer to tell you when something is about to break or something is wrong. Fly it like you stole it!
  5. I think It's the fact that when someone does a pin check they get a little too excited about opening and closing things. I've had people completely open my reserve flap because as a student the reserve flap was velcro, easy open and close. My reserve is packed super tight is a bitch to get closed on the ground and if hook hadn't been on the plane, I would have been riding it down, no one near me could reclose the reserve flap tabs. Now when someone asked if I need a pin check I state main only and ask them to not hit the rig when done. Tapping on the shoulder is perfectly acceptable.
  6. Alexander McInnes (Angus) was killed this weekend in a tragic rock climbing accident in Eldorado Canyon. Angus and his climbing partner were on the 4th pitch of ant hill direct and couldn't find the route so Angus traversed left to get to a crack so they could get down safely. When he was about 10 feet from the bolts he fell. His partner felt a big tug but he was around the corner and couldn't see him, so he tied the rope onto a rock and tried to get to Anugus meanwhile calling his name and trying to reach him on the walkie talkies. He couldn't see or get to him, so he slowly lowered him down until he could feel that Angus had reached the bottom. He then started calling for help, two climbers called the police. Rescuers said that Angus was pretty tangled up in his gear when they found him. The coraner is unsure how he died exactly. He was knocked unconscious during the fall but none of his injuries were lethal, the coraner is still trying to piece it all together. Post on Rockclimbing.com Fly it like you stole it!
  7. BWAHAHHAA.....it will be just like if hook and I ever reproduce. Guaranteed ground crew!! Congrats Tim and Brit, sorry we couldn't make it to CC, but it's a little hard to take Derek to a DZ in CO these days. Fly it like you stole it!
  8. Hmmm ... the girl I dealt with at the rental office (Catherine) would sure make a nice Suggar Daddy's toy. But while we did have fun kind of flurting with each other, she isn't a jumper and didn't warm up to the idea of being around a jumpers (I brought up the whole skydiver think-a-ma-bob with her because she was trying to sell me on the golf course next door to the complex thing). But this is a nice place in a good location (Highway-36 and Sherridan) and to be saving $500/month is just too cool. Dood...you're my neighbor. No you can't borrow any sugar Fly it like you stole it!
  9. Do blizzard essentials count? I'm from North Dakota so I get funny looks here in Colorado when I stock up on blizzard supplies. Apparently here the snow always melts within days of falling. Long haul no power rations: powdered milk canned stuff soup, vegies, fruit, meat crackers pasta cereal bread peanut butter jerky powdered sports drinks white gas for camp stove If you are good at outdoor cooking on a camp stove my favorite treats are blueberry muffins (well it looks like 1 big one that you have to share). If you have power just add stuff for the fridge, but always have the no power stuff on hand. Fly it like you stole it!
  10. Well here is what is says on the registration form (which I did not have to fill out btw, I just had to sign a print out that had all my info on it) TO REGISTER YOU MUST: - Be a U.S. Citizen - Be 18 years of age (Note: You must be 18 years old on or before the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote.) - Reside in this state and at your present address at least 30 days before an election - Important: You must include your complete address with apartment number or unit number to ensure your registration confirmation and to receive important mailings. Yet here is the only ID you need to prove the above. - A valid Colorado driver's license; or - A valid Colorado Department of Revenue identification card; or - A valid U.S. passport; or - A valid pilot's license with photograph issued by the Federal Aviation Administration; or - A valid employee identification with a photograph issued by the U.S. Government, Colorado state government, or any county, municipality, board, authority, or other political subdivision of the state; or - A valid U.S. Military Identification card with photograph; or - A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other governmental document that shows the name and address of the elector; or - At least the last four digits of the person's social security number. So I'm guessing they must do a background check or something cause it took about 6 weeks to get my voter card in the mail. Since I'm native born to the US I didn't have any problems. 11. He can't be in Colorado, cause I've yet to see a Whataburger here. On the other hand I wish they would get Jack in the Box, I miss their grease burgers in the morning after getting my drunk on. VSG - *hug* thanks for the good thoughts, I'm going to need them. It's a night race, so it's going to be quite challenging, but it should be fun. 12. Here in Colorado you are automatically registered to vote when you get your drivers license. To get your drivers license you must show your Social Security card and drivers license from your previous state. Fly it like you stole it!
  13. No going out for me. Got home went for a bike ride ate dinner and now I'm researching road bikes to go with my mountain bike since Derek and I are looking at a couple of century rides (100K & 100mile) to do next summer. Next Tuesday night is my 1st mini adventure race (3 hours) so I definately don't need to get dehydrated with booze. Fly it like you stole it!
  14. Hmmm...how about this one? btw...His team took 4th out of 19 teams 2 weeks ago in Vail. (He's just a "weee" bit proud of himself) Fly it like you stole it!
  15. Here is how it is done in my house. 1) Get 2 scratching posts 2) Train dog to know the difference between claws scratching the post and claws on the furniture 3) Train dog to chase cat when it's scratching the furniture 4) Cat learns to only scratch the posts Dog is currently miffed about #4, was enjoying daily romps around the house with the cat. 18. If you don't want to worry about the bends anymore get NITROX rated. With NITROX Hooknswoop used to work at the Neutral Buoyancy Lab at NASA, under water all week and then skydiving all weekend. I have done the same back in Austin. From Travis lake to the dz in less than a 24 hour time frame. You should still be careful though. Sorta... I work at the NBL.... They dive a lot, but not everday..... And it's usually no more than 2:15 bottom time. We do use NITROX exclusively. Our pool is only 40 ft deep.... Buck I have a feeling things have changed since Derek was there. I know he dove every day usually shift 1 and 3 putting him at about 4 hours under water a day. Then he would come home and and pretty much pass out. Off gassing was very hard on his body, there is a huge difference between now and back then on his energy levels. The best was the night he popped his ears and it was so loud it woke me up. The much diving is not good for a person I don't care how much NITROX you use. Fly it like you stole it!

  22. You know what is kind of funny is there have been tons of threads mentioning the list wanting people to PM Kris their number to join in the drunk fun, and in what 2 years only 30 people have done it. I know a huge concern has always been stalkers, and everytime I saw a name on the list that I had never seen make a post or the one time someone on the list called me that I didn't have a clue who they were but they "don't post very often, but have read my posts and I sounded like a fun girl to get to know much better" made me very uncomfortable. So I'm all for stalker prevention. New Drunk Dial List Drunk Dial List on the Web Fly it like you stole it!

  25. Please then tell us what those options are, because I rock climb, mountain climb, and have started playing in the high alititude alpine world, and am always conserned with having to rescue my partner on my own. Escaping the belay and self rescue are 2 things that are high on my list of things I constantly need to keep learning. Fly it like you stole it!
