  1. Where does solaris fit in that chart? Just curious cause every company I've worked for has banked on solaris.
  2. I've had my K6-3 going on 4 years now...damn it's probably time to upgrade. Actually it is, games are starting to run a little slow on it and the motherboard can't take a faster processor which means I can't add more ram. *sigh* Personally I'll end up buying pre-fab.... a) I'm lazy I deal with this stuff at work all day long, so if it takes longer than 15 min I won't bother with it and I'll end up without a box b) I have a linux box at home that has needed some hardware upgrades for oh about a year now that hasn't been touched, and currently is dead cause I keep stealing parts out of it. c) I have a pookie bear and his computer issues to deal with d) I'll probably get a gateway or a dell due to the compaq/HP(I think) merger.
  3. For someone who doesn't really know motherboards and which ones are compatible with what RAM or processors that can be a huge headache and not everyone understand all that "hardware mumbo-jumbo", it also can be more expensive if you don't know what you want or need and are unable to really shop around. There is nothing wrong with pre-fab other than you can get screwed when it comes to up grading hardware cause the motherboard can't handle it. Also then you have the expense of buying all the software that comes standard with systems. Personally I can build myself a new system much cheaper, but that is cause I can harvest alot out of my current system including alot of the software.
  4. Ok take this for what it's worth, I own a compaq (are they still making computers?) I also have worked on Dell's and Gateways and had no problem with them whether it was hardware of software upgrades. In the other hand I would avoid IBMs and HPs I've had nothing but headaches with them, my boyfriend has an IBM and I'm seriously thinking of replace it for him.
  5. All I can say is be careful man you are changing 3 things from your current canopy F111-ZP, 190-170, and square-elliptical. I'm sure you will be fine, but just be extra careful those first few jumps. On a side note Derek has a little 100 on it's way that I can't wait to play with. So I'll tell you what I think of it after I get a few jumps on it.
  6. Damn it I knew once they threw Brandi out of a plane they would never be able to keep her behind the manifest desk.
  7. yeah you won't mind Merrick when we talk about how we don't get it enough and how we could do it 3 or 4 times a day and how it's so frustrating whey they won't let us tie them up with zip ties..... Will you??? *innocent look*
  8. Actually my advice would be don't even go with the boytoy. That will only hurt your self-esteem more, you need to be very confident to do the boytoy thing and not get attached. You will only end up getting hurt when he decides that new blond tandem student would make a much better girltoy. If you need to be with someone/something get a puppy, especially one in the high engery needs lots of training category. (ie Australian Cattle Dog) You will be so busy trying to train it right and taking it to obidiance school you won't have time for the 2 legged dogs. Trust me the 4 legged dogs worship you alot more than the 2 and every time you feed them or play with them they think you are wonderful. Plus as a bonus you can put them on a leash, tie them to a tree and leave them while you jump, and you don't have to worry about them going anywhere.
  9. I'm so glad, cause a little flashing and puking in the tumbleweeds is good to share with all your online friends. Of course knowing my luck I'll be the one flashing and puking in the tumbleweeds with Derek laughing his ass of taking pics.
  10. Don't worry I'll bring the digital camera so everyone can know what exactly you regret.
  11. Hey clay when are you going to be a real swooper and pull that slider down. *running and hiding*
  12. Well if we drive I'm sure we can run into town to get you, also SDAZ has a bus to and from the airport, it's on there website under travel.
  13. Whew....no man tits...I was worried for a sec
  14. Yep it's going to happen, HooknSwoop, TequillaGirl and I are definately going. There are also several other interested parties. How we are getting there right now is up in the air. We might fly or we might drive since we can get the time off. Also we are looking into renting an RV, not sure if that would be worth it or not. I have a feeling HooknSwoop and myself will probably end up driving one way or another.
  15. I wonder if container size makes any difference, I have a tiny mirage an MXS with hip rings, it is just slightly narrower than my back and and about the same width as my waist. My old reflex doesn't have the reserve packed so I can't test out a larger container. If I can get Derek to pack it this week I'll try it this weekend, if I still can't do it, then the reason you guys are able to slip out has to do with the length of the main lift webbing and the fact that the yoke on your containers is wider allowing the harness to spread.
  16. skycat

    I quit!

woo hoo...go girl!!! your lungs and those of us kissing you (never know what will happen at eloy) thank you.
  17. it's ok Mountainman I couldn't do it either, my lateral wouldn't go past my rib cage and after alot of work, got stuck right about breast level and wouldn't budge any farther, and I couldn't get my legstraps down that far. Actually I had to do a lot of work to get in that possition, but then again the distance between my chest strap and my laterals is the length of my handles. btw....this harness was made for me and does fit perfectly.
  18. You are so right, I've heard to many people say that the reason they just had a bad landing was cause they were thinking about the skydive, what they did wrong, what they can do better, and they totally forget that the skydive isn't over, the most dangerous part has just began. Personally I try very hard after every skydive to concentrate on the canopy ride, blocking out the skydive until I'm on the ground. Especially if it was a bad jump, or a really really good jump.
  19. Oh really, well I graduated AFF with out jumping a wingloading higher than .5 and I only had one stand up landing, (of course I usually had a pilot chute over the nose or was going backwards) I didn't jump a .9 wingloading until 100 jumps later and didn't get to over 1:1 until 200 jumps. btw....tri's are just as supceptible to turbulence. I saw a guy at CouchFreaks last year hammer right in front of me in turbulence when his tri collapsed. I don't know his exact wingloading but it was definately over 1:1. My crossfire was breathing but she didn't collaps and set me down very nicely even though I could tell I had almost no flair due to the turbulance. My wingloading 1.1:1. So just because you had no issues with your tri doesn't mean that strait across the board they are perfect, if you ask me they land you harder and have very poor flair compared to 9 cells. It's all personal preference.
  20. btw....smaller jumpers such as myself have certain things done to the rig to make them fit, such has narrowed and shortened yokes and much shorter laterals. Even with my main out of the container I can feel the backpad against my lower back. If I have the chest strap tight my rig can quite literally not move on my back. With nothing in the container I still can't move my hip rings far enough forward to get my leg straps in that possition, about the closest is mid upper-thigh. On the other hand as flexible as I am I've actually had problems on my belly where i'm arched and next thing I know my leg strap is down around my knee(s). I never would have gotten bungee on my legstraps if it wasn't for that issues. Sit flying my legstraps never moved more than just under my butt, on my belly, they tried to come off. That was/is alot more scary to me, anything could happen from serious brusing, a broken leg/knee, or even sliding right out of the rig as the opening shock forced me to hyper arch.
  21. Good point, this can very easily be cleared up as to what he was doing on the dive by tia since I'm sure she got all his personal effects back from the DZ the day the accident happened. I doubt she has looked at it, but in time she may be able to help shed light on the subject. Also it would be a good tool for all of us to learn something, especially if you see him looking at his altimeter right before he started his front riser turn. Please don't get me wrong I don't want to see the video, just maybe from those who have seen it, what things he did that led him to such a sad end.
  22. Actually I'm treated fine, it's just that I can't stand to see others treated like dirt. All cause they don't agree with someone who is part of the "in crowd". So then I end up feeling bad try and treat them nice, jump with them whatever and next thing I know I'm not getting invited on dives. Ok, that isn't that big of a deal, but week after week of seeing crap like that going on, well it makes me not want to be part of it. You know when they say as the prop turns they aren't joking it's one big soap opera, it used to be amusing, now it just makes me sick to my stomach. btw...somehow I don't think you are read or small enough to jump an MXS with a 15 inch harness with a 113 reserve and crossfire 104 main.
  23. One of the JMs at my DZ has over 3000 jumps on his saber 135, put a new lineset on it and said it's good to go for another 1000. Not joking on that 1000 part he put 1500 jumps on his last lineset, and he's a rigger.
  24. Well I've been doing it about 2 1/2 years and have been seriously debating about quiting. When you first start jumping it's the thrill of something new, then it's the challenge to succede, then it becomes about getting better, being on a team whatever. Then one day you look around and all you see is politics and people being mean to one another, popularity contests, and things that just aren't right. At first you try to fix what is wrong, and then you realize that it's just not worth it, cause nothing will change. Then you are sitting where I am, pricing out your gear that has all of 50 jumps on it and wondering if anyone would care or even notice if you just walked away.
  25. no no no....it's "hey y'all, hold my beer and watch this"
