Yeah, I get it... I certainly understand (and agree with) the concept that you gotta put your target down and make sure it stays down, preferably dead.... But when I see the ballistics test reported on in magazines and in discussions online with words like "awesome" "devestating" "incredible" etc... just seems to put a little bit of a weird spin on it for me... There are entire magazines out there dedicated to concealed handgun carry and how best to shoot people... This is certainly fine, and I think for the cops, concealed carry folks, and other professionals out there it is a valuable resource. But I have a disturbing feeling that a large part of the readership would fall into that 80% I described in my first post in this thread, and that SOME of these folks would dearly love to shoot the shit out of someone... The "oh please someone come rob my house at night" mentality is what I am getting at here... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

While I certainly support the right to keep an bear arms... fully... I do think some sort of mandatory training is needed... I used to work at a gun range... I wore a bullet proof vest.... I was sure I would need it some day. It was my experience that about 80% of gun-owners who came to our range were absolute fucking dipshit numbskulls who were one sneeze or stumble away from blowing myself or another customer away.... Unfortunately, it was a county run place, so ejecting these fucks was a major ordeal... Anyone with any sort of military or hunting background was reasonably safe... almost everyone else needed some sort of organized training.... these are the people blowing themselves away accidentally.... but... given the choice between a society with dipshits accidentally shooting themselves or others and a society with no guns at all... Yeah, I follow... I am not saying it will never happen to me, but with my amped out gear checks (which double in intensity when I put a video helmet on), it seems unlikely.... I can't say I've heard of them un-threading in freefall... MAYBE if you had stainless and a big guy hanging on you... for what it's worth, the attachment shows a rubber band trick (that is pretty common knowledge I'll bet...). Takes the place of those tensioning spring clip thingamajigs.... seems to work OK... doubt it'll work w/ stainless though __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? Idaknow... the chest strap thread through can't get much more simple than it is.... 1) put on rig 2) cinch down legstraps 3) thread chest-strap 4) Get on plane 5) Prior to exit (and prior to boarding): - main, cutaway, reserve handles in place and pullable (I can save my life) - legstrap and chest-strap thread throughs properly routed (I won't fall out of harness) I don't get it... how hard is this? Why do so many people seem to have trouble putting on their rigs when it is the only thing that will save their life upon exit... edited to add: Looks like the main issue could be slippage? I don't really see this being an issue either, via proper use of keepers, and possibly a strategically place rubber band on the thread through itself... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

I have about 3-4000 jumps, and NO cutaways... I jump a Vel 90. Given the rapid altitude loss under a highly loaded xbrace under those conditions, the likelyhood for hard cutaways, etc.... chop first, ask questions later. bear in mind that I have kicked out of spinny line twists on my Stilleto many times, and out of plane old twists on my Velocity a couple times, so I do not just "give up" and chop at the drop of a hat... But based on the video, looks like a good decision to me... that thing was fully spun up friggin fast. I think he woulda had to pop the brakes within 2 seconds of opening to catch it fast enough... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
