It is not meaningless.... Asking what you would do to prevent what could be a gigantic error from becoming a permanent gigantic error is not meaningless. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Personally, I'd let him keep the flag pole... Yeah, I know the rules in his association say he can't.... But damn folks he is the LAST CMOH recipient from WWII still alive. Frankly, the board should have approved him the first time and been honored to have him live there. Great for you.... But why doesn't he talk to the rest of us? I mean, I have an office phone, cell phone, email that goes with me.... Heck being almighty he could just pop down to my office and say hi, or send me a text. Point is that you guys all claim that God talks to you.... Cool! And the Bible states that God communicated with people.... Wow! So why has he stopped communicating with the people he claims to love? With today's rampant sinning, why hasn't God said something that we could understand? I know, you are going to claim that you have to believe.... Well God used to not be so subtle.... Why is he shy now? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

And all the Christians have is the same emotional belief. All people want is some proof that God does in fact exist... The best Christians bring as proof is pointing at the Bible and claiming you have to have faith. You don't find it at ALL funny that God used to talk to his children all the time but has since stopped? The major difference is that Non-Christians don't normally try to convert Christians into not believing, they don't insult them, they don't normally try to legislate *at* them. So you are saying that the all knowing God created a certain percentage of people knowing darn good and well that they would be tortured FOREVER in a hell of HIS OWN DESIGN? Sorry, that does not sound like a loving God to me... He created Hell, and then created people he KNEW would be tortured forever? Same could be said of ANY class. How can a grade in an elective mean more than a mandatory class? Why was European Lit needed from my degree in marketing? Why should that grade count towards my GPA? Point is we already have mandatory classes that are not directly related to the degree and they already count towards GPA. Not really hard to do... I am surprised that a guy with your extensive legal knowledge and math skills is not able to do actual research on the types of crimes committed by LEO vs the rest of the population and compare that to the rate of convictions and the punishments. You type on here all day long about how others do not have valid data, then you spout invalid data all day long.... Expect to get called on it. To make it 100% clear. YOU were the person going back on their word and looked silly.... Just like here where you bitch at people for not having good data and then spit out BS. Again,if you can't realized that [SIC] is a proper form of quoting... I don't know what else to tell ya. Its not personal no matter how much you *feel* it is. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
That is covered in there. So you honestly think that God created the most painful of all places imaginable with the intent to torture forever anyone that does not love him? And you don't find it at ALL strange that God USED to communicate to the masses and perform miracles, but just stopped doing all of that? You don't find it interesting that the all knowing God created people he KNEW would become evil... so evil in fact that he decided to kill all but ONE family? And you would think that since he was all knowing he would have known that THAT family eventually would have also started sinning? Best of all the BEST defense is for religious people to claim you need "Faith" to understand? Again, care to discuss the points, not just claim you need faith? Cause, I could also state that Santa is real and you just need faith to understand that as well.... It does not make it true in anyway. False, there is ALWAYS data for events that happen. Holding you to the SAME standards you hold others is not denying or ignoring anything. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
Oh, I agree! Again agree. I recall (maybe incorrectly) that some versions of mines had a self detonate function after X number of years, they blew up... I remember my initial reaction was that that was stupid for them to just detonate. But after seeing what insurgents can do with remnants... I think that may be the best option. Personally, I'd like mines that could be deactivated with a long difficult to break code broadcast. And that a second message could cause them all to detonate. I also think that if you lay a mine... you are responsible to clear it. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

A buddy sent me this and I have to say it strikes the EXACT reason I don't buy into the bible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvRPbsXBVBo&feature=player_embedded I do wish there was a transcript I could read. Even in just the LAST POST I gave more than that reason. Yes we have, they work. Sure, are you going to listen this time? 1. They cost next to nothing. 2. They are independent, we can lay them and then they will protect the area, or prevent intrusion without the need for human oversight. So we don't waste manpower patrolling an area. 3. They work well for the roll they have been designed to fill. What "modern warfare technique" do you think is superior? Sure, if we don't use them they cost next to nothing. And we HAVE GIVEN YOU SPECIFIC SITUATIONS. You just ignore them, but here they are again: 1. GITMO, it prevents Cuba from getting close. 2. DMZ. It prevents excursions into S Korea. Also, you should be able to understand that even accidental excursions into anothers land has been a precursor to a war. 3. Any future situation where you need to be able to prevent, funnel, or just slow down an advancing element. 4. An early warning system to signal the approach WHILE slowing it down or stopping it without a firefight. Because they work. We have provided examples (some theoretical, some CURRENT REAL WORLD) and you just ignore them. Cheaper? Maybe..... Militarily smart? Nope. You just continue to ignore the examples that have been given.... Look, we get that you don't like them. We even get that you think they are not useful. And we even get that you think they cost too much. But you don't seem to care about any differing opinions, so this is my last post on this topic to you. We have them because: 1. They are cheap. 2. They work as designed. 3. They may be the BEST tool for specific jobs. (I am willing to hear what tools you think might be better) "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Very true. These officers were ambushed for being cops... An armed civilian or a plain clothed officer might not have saved them (very few people can survive an ambush), but might have been able to stop the attacker right there. You would hope, but with exposure comes complacency. These guys were not walking a beat, they were doing reports at the start of their shift in a comfortable and known place. There were in what they considered to be a "safe zone" and they had "backup". I don't fault the police for not being "on" in this situation. They were ambushed.... There is not much you can do about being ambushed. And the story seems to be reporting that two were killed almost instantly, one was able to start to engage, and the 4th was able to engage and shoot the suspect. A great question. We talk about it because it happens. Jeanne Assam took down a shooter who had just killed 2 teenagers in the parking lot and went into the main Church that had 7k people in it with 2 handguns, a rifle and 1,000 rounds of ammunition Robert Shockey in Orlando saved his sons life by being armed. Joel Myrick, assistant principal at Pearl High School in Pearl, Miss. The shooter ,Luke Woodham, had killed his Mom and two others before trying to escape. Myrick went out to his car and got a pistol and was able to sneak up to the shooter and hold him till the Police arrived 4 or 5 mins later. In January 2002, a Student at the School of Law in Grundy, Virginia, shot and killed the dean, a professor, and a fellow student. He was disarmed and subdued before he could harm anyone else by two students who retrieved guns from their automobiles. The point is it does happen and that's why we say it can. http://johnrlott.blogspot.com/2009/07/man-carrying-gun-stops-robber-who-had.html http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2009/10/1_shot_1_stabbe.html Ambushes are easy. You have 4 people sitting together with no clue they are being targeted, it is easy to "get the drop" on them. The first reaction for the targets is confusion (what???), then they identify the problem (we are taking fire!), then they have to identify the source, then decide a course of action and then implement it. Even if trained that process takes seconds and even with a revolver the guy could fire 5-6 shots in that time. It is like the saying that if someone REALLY wants to steal something... they are going to steal it no matter what you do. The same is true if someone REALLY wants to kill you. The initial target has VERY little chance if the guy plans on killing him flat out. But the OTHERS have a chance. Case in point is the Luby's in TX years ago. A woman left her gun int he car and a nutter killed 23 people an wounded 20 more. The woman, Suzanna Gratia Hupp had a gun in her car and stated she had several opportunities to take a shot if she had had her gun with her. You most likely have seen this link before, but here it is again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhyuJzjOcQE&feature=related So you are correct that very few people will survive a madman that plans an ambush designed to kill them. But there are also numerous cases of people with guns stopping a nutter right after he started his spree. And as Suzanna Gratia Hupp said... At least it changes the odds. You ALWAYS jump people for not providing FACTS... Now everyone should just listen to you when you can't provide them? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
We have given plenty of answers... you discounted them since you don't agree with them. But your agreement is not needed. 1. Landmines do serve a valid military function. The military and this administration agrees. Several other country's also agree and have also not signed the treaty. 2. They are being used as a political device. Why would the US sign the treaty while China still has landmines? And this has been answered. Currently, no and that is why we don't use them. But that does not make them any less valuable in specific situations. You may not like them... I don't think anyone LIKES them.... But your distaste for them does not make them any less effective or any less valuable. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Show me where in the bill your incorrect comments about FedEx and UPS are in there. The point is that many of the issues we are discussing are not in the bill. The bill has so many glaring holes in it... AND THAT IS THE POINT!!!!! Show me where in the bill this program is designed to run better than all the other social programs that just increase the deficit. How this program will run better than all the other programs that have failed. I want to handle the issue that will affect the HC bill since they will have a major impact. You want to ignore them.... that is akin to the ostrich sticking it's head in the sand and hoping the problem will just go away..... Or the actual process you use to fix problems... you just want to pass SOMETHING no matter how little it actually does, or how much it actually costs. Typical liberal knee jerk reaction... You are more concerned with LOOKING like you are doing something that actually doing the right thing. And you are not concerned with the cost since you are not going to be the one paying. It is pretty easy to make promises and write checks from others checkbooks. Much harder to actually fix problems. Provide PROOF (with links) to politicians saying that. You sound so ignorant about this. USPS has two major advantages: 1. They are allowed BY LAW to do things UPS and FedEx are not allowed... Using postal boxes as one example, an entire segment of service is solely owned by USPS, eminent domain...ect. 2. USPS can run a deficit. I also asked you to back your point and stated your experience... you have failed. You also made another claim you can't back... Do you know my job title? Do you know my position? Nope... you just made up another BS claim. Where is YOUR proof? You keep demanding it, yet you keep making BS claims you can't back. As soon as you do the same. This just proves you don't have any fiscal knowledge. Your statement is so ignorant it is beyond belief. It is clear all you want is free HC, and sine you don't plan on being the one paying for it you don't care how much it costs. Each and every one of your posts show this. Ever hear the right say: Well GHWB, now this is your economy?
Ron replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
Not "perhaps" The left and right both say it when it suits their political BS. Nope, but you seem to do it. All I am saying is BOTH sides throw out lines when it suits them and keep quiet when it would hurt them. It seems that you only think one side does dumb things. RR DID in fact spend the soviet union into ruin. Can you possibly have a discussion without lame theatrics? Cause if you can't I am going to not bother anymore. I don't need to listen to crap. You wanna have a logical polite discussion? Quit the lame BS first. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
