  1. Another lesson to learn is that people tend to only listen to advice they want. Another might be that bad information is out there and students just accept it even if it is wrong since they don't know better. Another is that poeple get defensive when they don't understand. Lisa said that big canopies are dangerous...And thats just wrong. Bytch pointed that out, along with others. Some people got all pissy and started trying to insult people "act as if they are God's own representative to the human race" comes to mind. There is NOTHING wrong with trying to prevent the passing of bad information. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  2. Lets look at this: You say this: then you say this: That is why I hate it when people rush to downsize. Small problems like your glove break you instead of maybe just a rough landing. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  3. At a slower speed. And if you do land off you will not need a runway and a low turn will do less damage if you panic. End Cell closures is not dangerous. Turbulance can take down a 747 and it has a higher WL than any canopy. Id rather people be on too big a canopy than too small anyday "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  4. Thats just wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Thats not dangerous. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  5. That right there is why people are saying you don't listen. Why would you defend someone who could be wrong...You honestly don't know if they are correct, but are willing to fight for them? Again, no one said you were in danger, no one said that it was a stupid move. People HAVE said that underloading a canopy is dangerous is BS. I can say that based on over 1,000 jumps on canopies loaded less than .9 (Startrack I) a PRO rating, and jumps on canopies loaded as high as 2.6 (69 FX). You are willing to slam people based on your love of your instructors. Thats not a very good reason. 6. OK look you kinda know me....But you got some bad stuff in here. Light WL are not dangerous for the most part if you observe some really simple things. I have over 1000 jumps on canopies loaded less than 1:1 and I am still here. Anyone that tells you that a light WL is dangerous is full of it. *unless the DESIGN makes it so, and there are VERY few of those canopies. At 165 out the door you are still at around .8...so its not like thats dangerous. But .7 is not dangerous either. Anyone that tells you that big canopies are dangerous has no real clue. Barkes often hurt you more than it will help you. Brakes slow you down. And riding brakes to get back to the DZ is nothing new, I had to do it several times at the Nationals just last week. None of that is dangerous. Slower just means slower. Faster can hurt you. Landing straight down is not dangerous either....I have jumped rounds and I bet I landed harder than you under a 230. Not jumping on you since I don't think you were dangerous...But big canopies are not dangerous. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  7. The thing is most coaches are under supervision while they are working. Its not like we "I's" just walk off when a guy gets a coach rating. I still get advice from other "I's", and I give advice to others as well. We are never really alone. Get the rating, treat it like it is "A license to learn how to teach". 8. You CAN, but its not that common. This year for instance they moved 8 into the "rain date" for 4way. Sometimes they don't and your pickup team can make a few practice jumps. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  9. Our pickup 8 way team got 4th in open.....Not bad. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  10. I flew in at 330 AM and flew back to the Nationals in Perris at 410pm.... Missed ya "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

    Vegas for an Hour.

(Or what to do when trapped in an Airport) Well here I am sitting in Las Vegas....For an hour. A last min trip required me to leave the Nats for Dallas. So, I already have done the slot machine thing, cruized the cheezy stores, and checked DZ.com.... Now what? weekend numbers

Place 7th at the Nationals.... not beer, done it before. But this time it was VERY close and a tight race. Several very good teams. We wanted 7th and we got it....We also wanted a 17+ 10 round average....But with the top teams only turning in a 21 over 10, we will take the 15.7 with 170 training jumps. We had two bad rounds, and lost 5 points to Video. But we are pretty happy. Fury with World Class PC John McIver fought very hard. Rumor has that they had 300+ jumps with Dan and Kirkby and only 50 with John. They did very well. Fury lost one to Video and had two busts. Synchronicity....Well they did really great. They had about 150-160 training jumps and really rocked. BIG props to their tail Becky.....She lived in LA. and she told me that her home is filled with water. WOW all that on her mind and she still performed great. Thunder with former Airspeed member Chad did really well. They lost two to video and had two busts. Select had a few really great rounds and I bet startled Sync. The really big news was Mass Defiance...They came from almost nowhere onto the top of the score board...They were very clean and crisp. People were surprized and impressed. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  14. Aw shucks. Anywhoo Phugoid 8 will have to do 7-10 without me....I got a call from Dallas and an offer for more money..... We did what we set out to do in 4way and got 7th overall. We missed our target average, but we had 5 points in video busts and with the top teams doing only a 21 average over 10, we feel pretty good with our score. 15. Thats kinda the whole point of a timed and SCORED event. You have to go fast, but you also have to be clean. You can claim that it was a shame, but it is also the name of the game. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  16. OK, if you come to Zhills we'll....Well there really is not shit to do in Zhills....So we can go to Disney and drink our way around the "World" at Epcot "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  17. See but if they both have the same number of jumps it is an easy choice. Lets say the newer guy has half the jumps of the old hand. Now who do you trust with your life? The newer 4 year and lets say 1,000 jump guy, or the 10 year and 2,000 jump guy? Would your answer change if it was 4 years and 500 jumps and 10 years and 1,000 jumps? It is not easy to say "X" is better than "Y" in most cases...But since you can't individually "test" evey person you meet at the DZ, total number of jumps can really help. Just like the car with the bigger engine most likely will go faster in most cases, the person with more jumps is normally better in most cases. Its a rough way to guess, but its more often right than wrong. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  18. The irony is that the shortage was brought by people thinking there would be a big shortage. Yes, Katrina did enough damage to make gas less available. However, the panic that it would run out is what made it run out. If people had chilled and not paniced there would have been no problem. However, once EVEYONE tried to buy as much gas as they wanted it lead to stations running out and rationing. This led to even MORE panic. So in the end we did run out, but only because people in a panic ran out and bought all of it. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  19. Thats it...I ain't goin'. First a guy tries to get me to go to a gay bar with him, now you won't let me see Big Ben.....OK, now that I think about it....Gay bar, Big Ben....Maybe I DON'T wanna see "Big Ben" "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  20. I didn't know it was that type of bar either, never been to England...But you recomended it so much.....Hey wait, YOU WERE HITTING ON ME..... "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  21. Its a REALLY secret bar only known to a select few people?????? Damn busted again "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  22. #1 did you bother to even notice the smiley at the end? I bet not. See the little guy sticking his tounge out is meant as a joke. #2. Why would I make a trip the the UK to fly in a tunnel when I have one less than an hour away? Now if I happen to be in the UK and have spare time from seeing all the REALLY SPECIAL things I could only see there...Like Big Ben, Stonehenge, Abby road..ect I would try it. But just because its a skydiving related thingy does not automaticly make it a must do for me. Definatly not worth a trip on its own. #3. You guys came to the states to fly in the tunnels here since you DIDN'T HAVE ONE OVER THERE. I am willing to bet that once you have two in Jolly old England that you will stop comming over as much just to tunnel. So why go there when we have them here? Great, I'm glad you guys are getting them as well. Really? Well he did say this right? "Go buy time NOW, you won't regret it, and to our friends across the pond, Yours may have been first but for once Ours is bigger AND better. " Then the next guy wrote "Sorry arizona, you get title of biggest tunnel for about a week!" Seems so far they both are making light harted jabs at our tunnels. And to answer that I responded "Ft. Bragg had a 14 footer long before SkyVenture was even thought of. To bad this tunnel is in the UK....But I guess with the WX you need a tunnel" And if you would care to notice there is a smiley in there?.....And its also true. Bragg has been around like 12 years, so AZ was not the biggest for a week AND English Weather sucks...It was both funny AND true. You were so quick to jump in and try and bash me that you missed that me and the other two were doing playful banter. I'm really glad you have a tunnel. But just cause you have one is not something that is gonna make me all excited. Sorry you got your knickers in a twist and felt all defensive and decided to take a light harted banter and felt the need to attack people for it. Edit since Big Ben does not have a "D" at the end....I tell ya between being stupid and typing fast I'm really screwed I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT THE SMILEYS "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  23. Nope, but that makes it even more special [YAWN] Sure, see I can get into your tunnel if I have money.... Bragg...no walls. Look, I'm happy you Britts finaly have a tunnel, and I'm glad it seems to be nice. But just cause you got a toy we have had for years its not like its a big event for us....We are kinda bored with them now, hell, we even build them in the middle of a desert "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
