  1. I ask how many planes....If it is over one, I don't go "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  2. Nope. Had one years ago I bought from a friend that made them and needed money. Like most jewlery if you like it, wear it. I don't. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

    What if

No, why would you do that? Major bust. With out any rotation you would not be showing "intent". Maybe even so far as calling it an "omission" and busting you three points. Besides, I think it would be quite longer. "Rotation is faster than translation"---Joey Jones. Pretty much you need to rotate and if you can reduce the rotation due to a vertical...All the better. However lets look at "8". In theory all you would have to do according to your wild and crazy dream is track the cat piece over the top and rotate both pieces 180. Ah, but here lies a few problems: 1. Serious center point violation. 2. You are not even TRYING to rotate really...So you did not show intent....Bad skydiver, do not pass go and do not collect 200 dollars. 3. The move really sucks and takes a bunch of time...Don't ask me how I know, just accept that it sucks. Oh, uh, could you just ignore my first comment? Thanks, that would be great. Amax....Sorry, I was out playing. I don't sit in front of a computer all day anymore...Infact I will only work about 10-11 hours this week . 5. And I have seen more people get hurt tying to avoid those objects than people that have hit them. One guy I know hit a barb wire fence and went under it...No damage to him, another bounced off one. The only damage was some pokes from the barbs. I have seen people biff turing to avoid them with damage from ego to broken up. I know a guy (Zhills bar has great POV video) that turned to avoid a cow and broke his ankle. Seen people hit a cow and bounce off just losing their breath. Since you like to quote Bill... "A flat turn is a good way to avoid an obstacle - IF it can be completed in time. It should never be tried until one has a lot of practice up high AND down low under good conditions. An incorrectly done flat turn can be worse than no turn at all." Yours is not a counter-conclusion...I took the fact that most can't pull the turn off correctly into forming my conclusion that more people would be hurt less by hitting the object than trying to turn when low. When low and your choice is to hit an object or try a turn...You would be better off to hit the object. Way too many people attempt the turn and get carried off the landing field. 7. I weigh about the same, how much you wanna bet that I can land that canopy with no problems? My first canopy was 220 sqft and I weighed 140 pounds. I jumped that canopy for 250ish jumps. 150 + 25 for gear = 175. Seems the 190 would be perfect for you. You have gotten hurt landing right? Smaller canopies will hurt more given the same mistakes. Bigger canopies will only be dangerous in really high winds. Don't jump in those winds. Smaller canopies are ALWAYS more dangerous. Given that you have had problems, I would stay with what you have till you can say with 100% confidence that you stand up all your landings, not just a handful. This is a problem, smaller canopies do not help you land better. Everything happens faster and you have a smaller window to do things right. If you are having problems, don't make them worse by downsizing. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  8. He said flat turns *low*, not in a landing. And you can't really do a flat turn at the last minute. Those are landing in a turn, but very different than a flat turn. Also very few people I know can even do a 90 degree carve. Most are lucky to be able to turn 45 degrees. If you need this trick, you screwed up many times, and have a very small chance of pulling it off in an emergency. Please tell me where I said not to practice emergency landing procedures? I just don't agree with you saying that landing in a turn is better than a straight in braked biff. Have you done both? Yes, but not just any plane would work. It would need a good power to weight ratio. Just look what cocheese wrote "Ultra Stick with floats = 10 tankfuls, need to fly full throttle almost to keep it up. Need flaps down for take off or she isn't leaving the water." Kallend would be a good source for what would be the best plane. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  10. So you can *avoid* landing in a turn. Really? Then what do you do at 300 feet? 200? 100? 50? 25? From 300 feet I do a 360...So I would not call that low anyway. I have seen more people get carried away from trying to turn to avoid them, than hitting those very things. 11. You would be incorrect. Landing in brakes into an object is better than landing in a turn. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

    CO trip

I went to CO and coached some folks in the tunnel there. They had about 9.5 hours. My thoughts. 1. Denver was beautiful! Went into the Mts and saw some really wonderful things. 2. Derek was as cool in person as he is online. Wish I could have spent more time with him. 3. The group I was with was quite fun and made some great progress. 4. The tunnel is amazing. At 74% power I could not stay down, and the air was smooth. It is the fastest and smoothest civilian tunnel I have been in. The folks were great. The only "gripes" I have is the lack of bathrooms...They had one for each, each with two positions each. Most of the time there was a line. They only have one room for skydivers to hang out. Not a big deal with only my group there, but if more than one team was there people would be just standing around. 5. Coaching in the tunnel is easier than flying the same amount of time. I went from CO and flying a bunch while coaching to training in Orlando the next weekend....I was beat down. 13. Had it happen to mo one time with a Leg strap system. I had no clue I was pulled out. I thought...."Why the hell I am floating....What the hell?!?!?!? How am I floating so much?!?!?!?!? Where the hell did my canopy come from!?!?!?!" The guy would nto stop saing hw sorry he was. We had no video, so I found it pretty funny. 14. When you are below your turn altitude (you know what that is right?) Then DON'T turn. A Down Wind landing is MUCH better than landing in ANY turn. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

    Pilot Speak

How you can tell you might be a Redneck pilot: 1. You stall warning horn plays "Dixie" 2. Your Landing lights are made by "KC" 3. You have oil marks running from your engine, and spit marks running from your window. 4. You have a gun rack in the back window. 5. The side of your plane has "Kill stickers" shaped like smaller planes. 6. Your tires are bigger than everyone elses and they are knobbies. Nice plane. It does not snap like Caps normally do. Call me a snob, but I never have seen one of those run really good. I hope yours works fine. I myself only use OS 2 strokes, or Saito or OS 4 strokes. But it could be that I don't tune an engine very well "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Very cool. The only update Ihave is I bought the carry case for the Trex. So it has been traveling with me. Flew it in front of the CO tunnel to show Derek. He is looking to get a Heli. 21. I was at the tunnel for 9 hours over the weekend. Had a good time, meet Derek, went up into the foothills, ate at that little asian place next to the tunnel. Shame we could not meet. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  22. While all true, it does not mean that thats all there is to the story. He does a good job, writes very well, has lots of info. But that does not mean thats the whole story. It may look like Fire is not doing more. But they are old news. They already won and are the US team. Sanapsi is hot news, Spa Hayabusa is news, Fury and Fastrax all have new people and that makes them news. Airspeed has been mentioned by Kurt 4 times in the headlines so far this year. Fire has 6 headlines. and two interviews. My only point is that to make a judgment only off of one source, even if that source is really good, only tells part of the story. I can't see Fire not doing their best. Garry is the current WC, Natasha is an animal, and Ian and Shannon I don't think want it any less. 23. Nope. I think they are training, but you just don't know about it. Airspeed does not have a bunch of stuff on the NSL website...Does that mean they don't have a chance? They have a busy life, and commitments. Competitions are good, but as a team grows they can become less important. You compete to prepare for the stress. The Nats was about as stressful as it could possibly get last year. And they now have a few competitions were they didn't win. Your impressions from one source? I think they have their work cut out for them. I think they will do well, but its goning to be really close.
