Good thing there are laws limiting the federal debt...
sfc replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
How about raising taxes, the $100B+ tax break that congress gave back to businesses recently in exchange for the tax subsidies the WTO ruled illegal. All we are doing at the moment is borrowing against the tax receipts of our children, we should start paying for all these programs out of our pockets rather than going to the bank for a loan. -
I have an HC and the port (A/V, lanc and firewire) are all on the "wrong" side. You could probably cut a hole in your helmet for the cables, I use an L bracket for the mount and I just undo the camera screw to remove it from the helmet for dubbing, not a big deal really.

If you tried to board a plane in the USA with your 2.75" knife you would be arrested and thrown in jail even if you had a need for it. If you tried to enter a Courthouse in the USA you would be searched without cause or reason, if found to have a weapon you would be questioned, maybe arrested and you would have the weapon confiscated. Many public building in the USA forbid citizens from carrying weapons and will search you without cause or reason before letting you enter. Most if not all concerts and sports games I have been to in the USA I was searched for weapons without cause or reason, I even have had to pass through a metal detector before being allowed to enter in some places. Some bars/nightclubs I have been to in the USA have searched me for weapons without cause or reason. Most schools in the USA use metal detectors to search all visitors without cause or reason. Gee, maybe the folks in the USA are paranoid about god-fearing upstanding citizens carrying weapons.

Hollister is better by far, I started jumping in monterey and moved to hollister, been jumping there for a few years now. More fun jumpers, a great manifest and DZO and the king air is super fast.

"ASBOs" -- Just how insane is life under Britain's laws?!
sfc replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
I'll kick it off: "ASBOs are yet another further indication that the British criminal justice system is utterly, absolutely inept, corrupt, and incompetent, and it has simply thrown up its hands and all-but-admitted, 'We just don't know what the fuck to do!' " -Jeffrey -
great camcorder. I've used it with a 0.3 from cookie composites for a couple of months now and no problems, it is a 25mm lens so no step ring is required Here's a pic I captured off a jump a couple of weeks ago, you can get an idea of the wide angle. Cliff's hand was only about a foot from the lens. At 6 feet you can get a complete vertical person in frame, assuming you can center the camera correctly. BTW the PC 109 has exactly the same optics and chip, so you wont get any better quality video using it over the HC40.

If you put it in a microwave for about 1-2 seconds it will fry it totally with no obvious signs. You have to be careful not to cook it longer or it will burn.

I might not be so in favor of the death penalty...
sfc replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
So what is your point? Life without parole is an way to keep killers off the street forever without executing them. If that your point? -
I might not be so in favor of the death penalty...
sfc replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
This is totally the fault of the parole board that this nut got out, he should have been left to rot. Maybe if they had criminal liability for what the folks they let back onto the street they would be more careful. Maybe if they could be sued by the victims' families they would be more careful. -
The people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki would probably tell you that tactic is very affective. It was very effective, but what makes you think the situation in iraq can be ended the same way as WWII, it is a totally different situation. Terrorists don't operate the same way as a regular army and government, we are dealing with loosely organised gangs of fanatic killers who get more and more support every time someones dies in iraq. Bombs would just serve to inflame a situation that is already on the verge of being out of control.
-
I agree they should be removed, by whatever means is appropriate, don't get me wrong these animal that kill mindlessly deserve no mercy and should not be given any quarter. If we did this we would be sinking to their level and this is where I disagree with you. If someone on your street killed someone and got the death penalty, would you advocate putting everyone else on street to death as well including yourself? No it is not, it is like refusing to kick a passerby in the groin when someone is going to kill you, it does not have any affect on the perp, he doesn't care if you hurt someone else.
-
I'll second that. So what is stopping you and funks from heading off to iraq and blowing up an iraqi school? You huff and puff on DZ.com, but I don't think have the balls to following through on your big words.
-
[reply ... none of this will matter if we drop the big one...however, what will matter is that generations and generations may be safer once the psychos are wiped off the face of this earth. And if dropping a bomb doesnt wipe the psychos off the face of the earth it will sure as hell send one serious fucking message. What I get from reading you and PJ is that it is OK to wipe out all the iraqis because some of them are terrorists. If you went to iraq, would you feel ok dragging some random person off the street and killing them, justifying with, "well you did it to an american"?. You also have failed to notice that these terrorists come from all over, they hide in places we cannot find or bomb. Turning iraq into glass will only get a few of them. The main thing that distinguishes us from these animals is the rule of law, if we ignore that (and we have come perilously close to doing so already I think) we become no better than them. Revenge is tool of these terrorist animals, do you really want to operate at their level?
-
That a good idea, bombs are a great precision weapon, it satisfies my thirst for revenge when I see pictures of iraqis looking like this, and of course this will have the affect of scaring the terrorists and stopping future kidnappings and murders . Um, it looks like he has some dried mud on his face, and it's a little bruised. What's your point? Do the psychos we're fighting, who won't even show themselves in battle, but strike and kill in secrecy and cowardice, have any problem with killing innocents, let alone scratching a kid's face? Blue skies, -Jeffrey Those animal have no problems doing this to anyone even their own, they are sick and twisted people, my point is that sinking to their level and dropping bombs that risk killing non-combatents is not the right response to the hostage taking and killing in iraq. Unless of course you are bloodthirsty and set on revenge and you don't care if a few innocent non-americans get killed, then dropping bombs in built up areas is a good way to go.

I recently bought a HC-40 and it has a Lanc port. The PC109 does as well.

1st camera buyer question - yep I said 1st...
sfc replied to LeadBoy's topic in Photography and Video
the hc40 has the same optics & CCD as the pc109. The hc40 is $200 cheaper (list price) The 109 has some extra features that you probably wont use if you are using it for skydiving only. -
dbuys.com no tax, unless you live in NY get the standard shipping, i ordered saturday, got camera on wednesday via fedex. their current price is $519, it usually drops a couple of bucks on friday midnight EST until monday morning.

I just got one and jumped it last weekend. I cut the strap off by undoing the stitching, I couldn't easily figure out a way to remove it without the risk of damaging the camera, it is so small that the strap isn't really required to be able to hold it anyway. One issue I see with it is the power/record switch sticking out of the side of the camera so far, very noticable when the strap is removed, I had to cut a notch in the L bracket so it would not get stuck. Another issue is that the battery is on the back of the camera and it only takes the slightest of taps on the release button to remove it, an extra bungy or strap around the battery is a good precaution. Another thing I was worried about was the low light filming because sony shrunk the optics, the late sunset jump is always darker than most, from last sundays sunset jump it seems to perform at least as well as my old PC9 if not better and the color reproduction is good with the low light compared to the PC9. The LCD is miles better than the PC9, you can actually see it in sunlight and you can turn off the backlight to save the battery (the one it comes with is a crappy low life thing that might need upgrading, I don't think it would last a busy boogie weekend without a recharge). I paired it up with a 0.29 lens from http://www.cookiecomposites.com which they make with a 25mm filter ring so no adapter is required and it works great with no vignette. I expect the one from diamond or way-cool is just as good but you can't order the 25mm on-line from them like you can with cookiecomposites when I last checked. The lens only took a week from order to get here and that was standard airmail from Australia. Other thoughts, it uses the new audio connector, the same as the PC105, so all the spares you have for your PC101,9,110,120 etc will not work, they also changed the battery type so none of the ones from the PC series will work either, which kinda sucks if you have any. The firewire connector is on the right side so you have to remove the camera from your helmet if you use a side mount (I think the PC109 has this problem as well), one good thing is that the power is on the back on the left so you can plug it in without unmounting it, the power connector is different from all the PC series so those spares are junk as well, the price is the real winner for the HC40 ($517 is what I paid) it is so much better compared to anything else. And did I say how light it is, only 14oz!, great if you have neck problems like me.

clothes definitely, I still have nightmares after I saw you doing naked creeper races in Byron last year.

saturday for sure, weather looks good

That would probably help more. It would be of such significant scientific interest given that it has been fed so much tequila and survived, that you could get a good proce for it I'm sure

What is GWB Thinking? Well, it is an election year, so I wonder what he could be thinking... Anyway 5% would hardly pay for the restroom in a new shuttle, if he was serious he would have to at least double the budget, but then he would have to take out a second or third mortgage on the country, but thats probably fine seeing how he would borrow the money from the folks he has given billions in tax breaks to in the last couple of years.

Vinny the Midget Tequila Monster (formerly Vinny TheAnvil)
sfc replied to skyshark6's topic in The Bonfire
Holy shit he looks half dead. You were right, definitely worse than he looked after the coach course. -
I've never seen anyone drink as much tequila as TheAnvil drank when we were doing that coach course, I htink he drank as much tequila as the rest of us drank beer, he must have an extra liver.
