2 way donut out of the skyvan
Clownburner replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We tried an 8-way tube, 4 two-man tubes linked together, out of a skyvan once. The tailgate isn't wide enough for it, so it broke apart immediately into 2 smaller tubes, and then blew apart completely. Fun though. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth -

Ok, this is the part that scares me.. Did they teach you anything like freefall manuvers, stability recovery, tracking, anything like that? If not, you're going to have a hard time getting the A-card signed off and will probably have to do (at least) some coach jumps with a USPA instructor. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Elsinore often makes second passes, especially if the uppers are strong and the otter is full. I've worried about this when trying to learn to sit fly. I know I'm corking and sliding all over the place, but there's not a lot I can do about that at the moment. I try to give extra time to the group in front of me, and let the people behind me know to give me extra time too. I'd happily leave in a different order to improve safety - how do I get the other people on the load to agree to let me go before the rest of the freefliers? Tell them I'm a belly flyer? ..And I open at 4000 when I'm "sit corking." 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

I've seen it done a few times but I don't know exactly how bad it really is...I remember Bill Booth actually saying that although this would technically work it wasn't recommended because when you mess with the ratio between the large and medium rings you break the lever relationship - leading to a very low mechanical advantage (much lower than a properly made set of mini-rings). This might lead to a hard cutaway, esp. with a highly loaded or elliptical canopy. But you get to decide for yourself if it's worth it. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Woo-hoo! I can't wait. Make sure I'm on the list for Wingnut's birthday jump, I couldn't miss that! (i'm even going to miss my flight back to make it!) 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

For me at least ( a child of the video-game era), my brain registers the digital in a fraction of the time it takes to read the analog. For a lot of people the opposite is true. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Certainly not a problem for me. I fall like a bag of homesick rocks. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Yes, this can be scripted easily... Of course, some caution is in order because sometimes ISPs will use proxy servers that may confuse the issue, but those are easy to find. Glad to hear it, HH, I think it's a good move. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

So, do you think they'd be good for a beginning FF? It sounds like yes... I'm starting (just) to FF and wanted to get some FF Pants and these seem like they might be a good way to go. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

The story that supposedly debunks the hoax is a well-debunked hoax. Urban legends go circular! Go to the bottom of this page for a lengthy explanation of the holes in that story and it's origins. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Our Lager, Which art in barrels, Hallowed be thy drink. Thy will be drunk, As I will be drunk, At home as it is at the dropzone. Give us this day our foamy head, And forgive us our spillages, as we forgive those who spill against us. And lead us not into incarceration, But deliver us from Hangovers. For thine is the beer, the bitter, and the lager, Forever and ever Barmen. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Pardon me. I guess I meant that it would take a while for other rig manufacturers to decide they want to license it, and then negotiate the rights with Mr. Booth, etc. Of course, they all know what it is by now. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Line Stows/Locking Stows, couple questions...
Clownburner replied to andy2's topic in Gear and Rigging
You're really not grasping relativity here. It's all based on frame of reference. I'll try and provide a very simple example: If you and I are moving the same speed in the same direction, and suddenly you slow down, from my perspective you seem to be 'accelerating' away from me. If a third person is standing still and we're going past them, when you slow down, he still sees us both moving but sees you 'decelerate.' So they're really the same thing seen from two different perspectives. Poynter's manual is titled "aerodynamic decelerators" because seen from a ground-based point of reference, that's what they do. But if you're looking at them from the perspective of a camera in freefall, they're causing the deploying jumper to accelerate away from you. It's like when you're adjusting your fall rate, and you 'float' above another jumper. You aren't floating. In fact, from a ground-based point of reference, you're still hurtling at the earth at an amazing speed. But from your perspective, you see the other jumper move away from you. If you didn't move, you assume the other jumper ACCELERATED but from his perspective you might easily have DECELERATED. No difference. Does this make more sense now? EDIT: Of course, this is all pretty academic considering this thread was supposed to be about double-stowing line/locking stows. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth -
I seem to remember Bill saying in an earlier post that the Vector II's would have a retrofit kit available 'soon' but I dunno if that's happened yet. I'd imagine that other rig manufacturers will catch on eventually, but that may be years from now. I was lucky enough to get my shiny new V3M complete with Skyhook last weekend! Of course, the riggers looked at it awfully funny for the first few minutes, which did not fill me with confidence. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

Will trade $$$ for space in an RV @ Rantoul
Clownburner replied to Clownburner's topic in Events & Places to Jump
If anyone has an RV with an extra bed in it and will be at Rantoul at least from 7/31 to 8/6, send me a PM if you're willing to rent the space. I'd pay a handsome premium to not have to haul my tent & camping gear on a commercial airline. Could be a good deal for both of us - Less hassle for me, more jumps for you. And I'm clean, well behaved (well, for a skydiver anyway) and can make interesting conversations and coffee. TIA 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth -

I've heard that 45-degree-angle thing from a lot of jumpers at my DZ. I was taught to wait at least as many seconds as half the upper wind speed, but no less than 5 or 6 seconds. That method seems to jive pretty well with the calculations Kallend has... Do you think this is a good method to use as a 'rule-of-thumb?' 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
