There is also a canopy school at Mile Hi skydiving in Longmont, Co.

I think you are making quite a stretch from having a beer to having a joint. If an instructor doesn't drink, that doesn't make hima good instructor. I have seen many good instructors have a beer at the end of the day, and I was right there with them having one too.

Compare XAOS 21 to VX and/or Velo
Spizzzarko replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
The less brakes that are applied to a canopy on opening, the slower it opens. Jumping a canopy with the brakes unstowed on opening, makes it open really slowly. The slower it opens, the more time it has to spin up. A lot of the base jumpers have multiple break settings, so I would talk to them about some of the methodology used there. Canuck in USA here on the forums does some of that stuff, maybee he can elaborate. I have no interest in the base stuff. I have jumped a spectre 170 with the brakes unstowed several times just to see what it would do. Spectres open slow as is, but they open really slow with the brakes unstowed. The center cell would inflate and start to fly forward, but the rest of the canopy just streamered off to the sides, like some really bad end cell closure. I would have to pull the rears down quite a bit to get it to inflate. -
Now please dont beat me up if any of you ever run into me somewhere. Don't worry about that, just throw some joints at them, and they will stop in their tracks. All free flyers are pot heads.

Probably we were there. You would have to expound on who you were, as these was like 100 of you civilian jumpers there. We went back the next day to see them try and fly the contraption in the rain, but it didn't work. It was a fun trip, but I was glad to get out of there.

I've put two or three jumps on a 21, and it felt like a really nice opening FX. -
1. A pilot who doesn't bitch when you tell them to go around (they have to understand that you can see more than they can). 2. One who doesn't climb the plane with the stall horn going off all the time (What is gained from that). 3. One who will give you an accurate report on the weather conditions (the plane may fly through a lot of wx, but you are the one jumping out). 4. One who feels Positve and Negative G's are a No No (They usually don't own the plane, and you have to deal with the situation too if a wing comes off). 5. I pilot who will look out the window of the aircraft instead of being glued to the GPS (believe it or not there are many other planes out there, and the big sky theory is getting smaller and smaller by the day. Jumper's should not hesitate to call out other air traffic to the "Throttle Yoke Actuator" (mechanic's term for a pilot)). 6. Some one who is not Skip Moreau from Hi Sky Adventures, in Canon City, Co. (All the old timers don't call him Skip the stupid pilot for a reason). These are just a few things I thought of really quickly.

Thanks, I got picked up as an enlisted instructor for the Air Force Academy jump team, and I was getting about 500 jumps a year there, but I got out of the AF last July, and I'm growing my hair long, and working on being a hippy. Civilian life is a lot more laid back. I would like to go back to cal city and catch up with everyone some time, but school and work keeps me pretty busy. Grant

Redundant words, a bit like "Personal PIN" or "PIN number" D-day H-hour

PD's new "In the Zone" is up and running
Spizzzarko replied to JGarcia's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I wish I was in the zone like IAN... Only 2 jumps on the RDS One on the slider, and one on the bag. I'll pm with more info. Grant -
I wonder how slow it opens?

I don't think the dactyl is ram air... I think it's like the Volplane, and it's not ram air. Grant

No, Donny these men are just COWARDS... Is this tunnel going to be in the mall where 25 and 470 meet on the South side of town, or is it going to be over in Westminster off of 36? Grant

I remember meating you there at Bob and Judy's. It was a fun DZ, and I always had a great time there, especially listening to Philly, Bob, Timberly, Paco, You, Richard Park, and the rest of the old timers getting drunk and talking about people going in. It was a great place to learn things. hahahaaa

Southeast CPC Meet #2 - West Tennessee
Spizzzarko replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It's because I'm not in the ZONE! Once your in your in, but if your out it sucks! -
I started jumping in Cal City in 98. They had a pilot there named Fred. He was French, and a pretty good dude. We would always blame farts on him when there were pretty girls doing tandems, and he would get all flustered, and turn red. He got me back though... At the time, I worked in the F-15 maintenance field at Edwards AFB, Ca. Fred sent me a post card of some fat naked chicks addressed to: Grant Adams f-15 Maintenance Hangar Edwards AFB, CA. and it said "Just your type" on the back. Well it finally got back to me via the commander. The commander called me in and told me that the card had been all around the damn base, and he told me to "have your FRIENDS not send stuff like this to the base". So needless to say, I got all flustered, and turned red. That RAT BASTARD...

I can just imagine getting a really sticky spoon in the mail! I would be like: "What the fuck is this?.... OOhhhhh, I remember now..." BTW it's only like an 18 hour drive from Sugar Land (SW Houston) to the DZ!

Amanda and Dave, These CPC's really are the SHIT aren't they? I'm having so much fun competing in them. Our competition here in Colorado for 1-5 is so tight! Any mistake and you can lose several place standings. I was in first on the last meet, and the judges were looking at one of my runs very closely. If I verted then I would have dropped to 5th! Fly clean, fly carefully, and have fun. It would be great to have yall from Texas come up to the CPC nationals here in Co. in September. If you do, please bring some Blue Bell Ice cream for me. I havn't had it in 8 years, and the shiner isn't as good here in Co. as it was in Texas. Grant
