Those spectres are fun little canopies aren't they.
-
Well jhonathan, that's a fairly male name, have you ever had one shift through the jump and then felt it on opening? It's uncool.
-
Well said.

I personally have taken low after bigger ways when my airspace was not clear above me to the point that I was looking over my shoulder for a freebag during my main deployment, and never had it actually happen. I'm glad that you didn't have a fire, and no where did I say that it happened all the time. I personally am not part of the much coveted Cypres Demonstration Team, but some of the ones I have talked to have described this phenomena to a "T". Yes, I know that the manual states that the high fire is psossible, If the manufacturer is stating that this can happen, then I am sure they have tested this theory, and it CAN happen.

What is exactly an "average swooper" ? Let's not split hairs here, dude. when I start adding weight and start turning more than 360° I am not so confident anymore. In my opinion, most of the people adding weight belts for their swoops don't have the skill to properly handle the added wingloading, thus their results are negligible. Or am I average irrelevant of weight and turn? If you personally feel that you need to turn your cypres off for swoops then good for you, but for the rest of us who have been swooping for however long we have been swooping and havn't had a cypres fire, I say that we really shouldn't lose sleep over it.

I have jumped the spectre 170 several times without the brakes set. The centre cell would inflate, and the outer cells would streamer behind the canopy. I had to pull quite a bit on the rears to get it to inflate.

There is a parafoil for sale in the main canopy classifieds on this website. If you are looking to compete in the classic accuracy event at collegiate nat's then you really need a classic accuracy canopy, as it will be very very very difficult to score the disk with any consistancy on a smaller canopy, especially when all of the military academy's are using Classic's and scoring less than 5 cents on most of their jumps. The best I have shot is 5 and 3 cents with a spectre 170. Using a classic canopy is much easier, but you will have to get used to coming straight down onto your target. Also you are more at the mercy of the winds, so you really have to plan ahead. It is actually a real challenge for all of you swoopers out there, and you would learn a lot if you actually practiced classic acc. If you need some more advise call (719) 333-3653 and ask for Coach Wenger, Marty Jones, or ask how to get into contact with Kieth Bergeron. Coach Wenger, and Kieth Bergeron are really active in the Classic Accuracy realm and are instrumental in the Collegiate Nationals. Those dudes know their stuff when it comes to classic acc.

Let's take a step back and realisticly look at this... 1. The dudes having the cypres fires are pushing the limit of performance every day. 2. They are going further and faster, by adding weight to themselves to increase their wingloading. 3. A cypres is a mechanical device that uses air pressure to release your reserve. (Here in Colorado we have experienced several high cypres fires (1500') as the jumper is being pulled upright by the sniveling canopy a higher air pressure is applied to the bottom of the reserve container causing the unit to think it is lower than it actually is, thus a fire and a two canopy out situation.) 4. Ask your self how many jumps are made yearly, monthly, daily with out cypres fires in the swoop. This kind of thing is not happening to the masses of jumpers out there, so I don't think we really need to be worrying about it to much. It sucks that it has happened, and it sucks that people have died from this, but I don't think the average swooper needs to worry.

Jumping Restrictions near Denver
Spizzzarko replied to DickMcMahon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It all starts several years back with the Bandits out at Canon City Co. There were several DZ's in the state at the time. Mile Hi, Brush, Calhan, and the bandits at Canon. The Bandits always had a "We do what we want" attitude. They even printed up t-shirts advocating this cavalier attitude. Back to the history lesson. There was a division of jumpers at Calhan, and a seperate DZ was started out at Canon city. Calhan eventually shut down, and the two dz's at Canon began battling it out. Two of the bandits at Canon bought out Brush from it's owners and a lot of the bandits moved up there. There was still a small contingency of bandits at Canon, but Skydive the Rockies began to reign supreme out there. Everything settled down for awhile, and then the two business partners (bandits) who ran Brush had a rather nasty falling out with each other, and split. One of them continued to run the DZ for awhile, but Brush finally shut down, and moved back to the original bandit dZ back at canon city. The owner that left Brush first started working at Skydive the rockies, and the other was at Skip's (Skip owns the original bandit dz out at Canon. Skip didn't earn the knick names "Skip the stupid pilot" "Skip the stupid A&P" or "Skip the stupid rigger" by not trying to be stupid, he's just that way. Skip always seems to survive his tragedies. I can just imagine after the Nuclear hollocaust, that there is going to be cock roaches, rats and Skip, but all of this is a different story. PM me if you want to here some of his dumber exploits.). Now Randy Fortner is trying to get back into Brush, but it loks like they pissed the city off by "Doing what they wanted". They must have done some pretty heinous stuff because the city of Brush is a shit hole farming community. It has a general smell of cow shit because of stock yards around the DZ (you can smell it in freefall). So this is your history lesson for the day. I hope you enjoyed it. -
The Gaveston children were bummed as they were being bussed to schools inland. Many of the children were overheard complaining about the fact that they NEVER get snow days.

Here's a caption for you: "Galveston, being a firm believer in the rule of the 7 P's (Proper Prior Planning Prevents a Piss Poor Performance), has decided to evacuate early after seeing what happened to New Orleans."

OK your excused. -
Should AADs be redesigned for swoopers?
Spizzzarko replied to riddler's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
We all need to look at who this is happening to . These dudes are pushing the limits of greatness, and it isn't happening to those of us who are doing 270 degree turns and loading less than 2.5. Most people do not have to worry about this happening. It sucks that Adrian was killed, but this happens in this sport. It has in the past, and it will in the future. When you press the edge sometimes bad things happen. -
New FAI Distance Record in Colorado

Jesus Christ Shitbags!!! Don't you all realize that you both have valid points! There are times for standup landings, and there are times for sliding it in. Skyjumping is a fluid environment, and you cannot have a definate and hard fast rule for every situation. Derek and Steve, you both know this. Everyone else... Focus more on your own landings instead of laying blame here on the internet. God knows EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US needs to focus on this subject. This thread is dead and my only hope is that it will be locked soon.
