  1. Made me google, didn't cha? Yep, quite the gal. . ..
  2. Picked up my fair share of them and have stuck my own thumb out a few times. No really bad experiences. I do remember picking up a kind of anti-social dork one time in my 2 seat sports car. Not enjoying his company too much. A few blocks later I saw a cute girl hitch hiking, so I pulled over to the curb, gave him the boot and gave the girl a ride. He said "But I was here first!" I said "It's my car." I thanked that girl for helping me out like that. I still pick up the occasional hitchhiker. Like someone posted above, I'm a fair sized guy in good shape and a pretty good shot, so I don't have too much to worry about.
  3. Vskydiver and I did a 3 way sit fly in Costa Rica on a sunset load from 18K, landing on the beach right at the water's edge. Still one of my favorite jumps of all time.
  4. What?! And jump a student Infinity without a Skyhook??? Yeah, sounds dangerous, huh?
  5. I haven't kept up with accuracy canopies but you'll want one in the 250+ foot range. Not sure if they are still all F-111 or have gone ZP. Be ready to buy a new rig 'cause it's gonna pack up pretty big. I was never hard core but have my share of accuracy jumps. It's cool, like doing RW with the ground. But I wouldn't want to carry that big canopy on every jump anymore.
  6. Summer's coming to Seattle. Come jump at our place.
  7. Brainlocking is not that uncommon. Are you spending all your spare time on the plane visualizing the dive? That's one of the best tools for remembering it. Then make sure you tell yourself "I've GOT this dive!" whether you do or not, right before you exit.
  8. I remember that sketch from when I was a little kid. Nice to see a guy like Bill Dana fly all those amazing planes and live to a ripe old age. I can only hope for a life half as amazing.
  9. When company visits we tend to cook big meals and maybe sit around too much. When they leave so does that extra 4-5 pounds. With that said, I still want get down to my best flying weight, about 10 pounds less than where I am now.
  10. Naw, don't you know our society has to thwart Darwin no matter what the cost?
  11. I hope our small community finds him for you.
  12. Was that due to poor instruction due to the ongoing relationship, or was she just as bad at skydiving as that little Texas girl? Dunno.
  13. No one has brought this up but what if the student is hitting on you after hours? Yes, it happened more than you'd think.
  14. It's no secret that I met my wife when she was a student at the DZ. She actually got more instruction because I really, really wanted her to be okay. Even got her off the DZ gutter gear and onto better equipment early, made bunches of coach jumps with her, etc. I'd seen too many GF's rushed into stuff over their heads. I was super cautious with her. For what it's worth, that's the other side of the coin.
  15. I bet they won't even remember it. . . 102 times in jail. Those chronic drunks can get to be quite the drain on public services. Tacoma had an infamous guy that had cost the city over $1 million in hospital bills over a decade or so.
  16. That was pretty cool. I hope that kid got a lot out of it. We never got that elaborate but we had the treehouse and big swing set for the kids and that got a lot of use. I saw a little wobble with the car wheels. I hope they did all their calculations correctly.

    Kaley!

Not only is she pretty, but she's got good comedy chops as well. Love watching that show.
  18. Did I tell you the last time I did my taxes myself I made some mistakes and damn near triggered an audit? My next move was to find a good accountant.
  19. Actually my itemized deductions are less than the standard, but my skydiving income is a 1099 form as a contractor. All my expenses are deducted from that before getting counted as income. At least that what it appears my accountant does.
  20. Why no flare on landing? The front canopy is controlling the back canopy. At our DZ we teach to flare normally on landing. My wife and I used to land biplane stacks, a similar situation, and we would flare normally on landing.
  21. All very good advice. There are so many factors that go into a good landing, it's impossible to say what you are doing "wrong" on an internet forum. Once of the best descriptions of a good landing goes something like this: You want to come in at full speed with your canopy straight above you, flaring just enough that you level off about a foot above the ground with your canopy still straight above your head. Then continue to bring the toggles downward to maintain that level flight until the canopy doesn't have enough lift to hold you anymore. When you're finished the toggles should be all the way down. Remember that flaring converts your forward speed to lift. Speed is your friend.
  22. Bono unavailable. . . I worked my last 4 years under that glitchy new system. Nice to see it STILL has problems. . .
  23. No. You coworker knows even less than you do about skydiving. There's lots of misinformation out there. Learn to ignore it. You don't get a hard helmet because you could hit us in the face with it. You don't get a personal parachute because you're hooked to us and could foul things up with it. We're wearing 2 parachutes, both a main and a reserve (back up). We'll take action to save BOTH of our lives if necessary. It takes training to know when to open the parachute. Opening it at the wrong time can cause problems.
  24. It was occasionally hard work staying alive this long. I'm proud of it.
