Would you rather be able to fly, or be invisible?
JohnMitchell replied to Earp's topic in The Bonfire
Yep, very pretty school teacher in the Wonder Woman costume. It was a very nice demo to be on. -

Looks like fun. I still haven't done one of those yet. -

Friday Freakout: Reserve snags on GoPro mount

Thanks for the information. I'm going to remember that one. -
That is great news. I hope they can figure out the cause. I'm guessing it might have been automation confusion again, like the Air France Airbus that went down in the Atlantic. I'll say it again, I'm not a fan of Airbus's highly computerized control system. It's caused too many crashes and near crashes already.

I wonder about this phenomenon quite often. Is it that people on the lower end of society feel so unempowered and down trodden that any chance to feel in power and in control is just too heady for them? My observations with pedestrians in crosswalks is that middle aged, well off guys like me tend to walk quickly, appreciating that cars are stopped for me and I want to delay them as little as possible. A cooperative society, right? With the down and out, possibly homeless, I see them walking almost a slowly as possible in the cross walk, finally having some power over all the people who can afford cars and forcing them to acknowledge their presence. So is it a hunger for power and control by those who rarely have it? Or has their life really given them no tools for coping civilly with the small aggravations? Did they never have role models that could teach them peaceful resolutions to conflicts? Or, worst of all, are their egos so inflated that they feel they're allowed to scream and yell at all around? Do they feel so entitled that rudeness is just one more "uncivil" right? I'm not a sociologist. Just spent too much time at crosswalks.

It's the death of civility. . .

Did I make the right choice in Toe color?

That's a classic. -
yep, true. Most women take 0.4 to 1.2 nanoseconds to get pissed off.

I got one for my wife years back. Cool. A year or so later, I ordered one at the DZ for me. The DZO said "Sure, but why do you need one?" I replied "I don't know. I would just feel dumb bouncing with $1200 left in my checking account."

Best advice ever.

Total Reverse Shoulder Replacement
JohnMitchell replied to jkbernstein's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not exactly sure what a "total reverse shoulder replacement" is, so I did some googling. They talk about being susceptible to dislocations in the forward motions, etc. I read some of the rehab guidelines too. Sounds like at least 9 months to a year to get where you want to be. I've had lesser surgery, both rotator cuffs reattached. Right side it was 8 months without jumping, left side 6 months. Both times I followed rehab instructions to the letter and did all my exercises religiously. I'm back as good as ever, maybe even in better shape. The best thing is talk to your doctor and your physical therapist about wanting to resume "athletic activities" after surgery and recovery. I didn't mention skydiving first time thru, because that is kind of a red flag with some doctors and PT people. I just told them I wanted to be active, to "have my life back." I have a friend with an artificial shoulder that jumps every sunny Saturday we have in Seattle. ( about 5 or 6 a year). He's doing great. Best of luck to you. -
I did both of those and found that stocks performed better during the same period. A lot depends on the period you buy in, etc.

I've never seen one that I didn't like.

Years ago we had an awesome WWII vet in his late 70's that jumped at our DZ. Outspoken and hilarious, he was one of my favorite peeps. One day a recently divorced skydiver showed up at the DZ with her hair dyed red. She asked Lenny "What do you think of my new hair color?" He replied "Well, it looks like you're trying to attract a cheaper class of man." I thought I'd get a hernia trying not to laugh too hard.

Glad to hear your opinion on the whole matter.

Same with us. An article I read on Warren Buffet the other day said that his will reads to put 90% of his wife's money in a Vanguard S&P 500 fund when he dies. That and a similar TSP (federal employee fund) is where we have 95% of our $$$ that is not tied up in real estate. For the adventurous, I say get on board with the Motley Fool bunch. I think they have some of the most sound investment ideas.

When he pops a rod does his eye swell shut?

Sounds like me until I finally started using an accountant. Funny how complicated things get when you run a business, work as a skydiver, have a non-profit, and own some rental property. It got beyond my abilities to do my own return, even using turbo tax. I'm sure you can relate to all this.

Although I've been privy to a number of plane crashes, it's like skydiving incidents. Without the basic facts, I always have more questions than answers.

Yep, it was nice. TI pay has gone from $30 to $40 where I work. Teaching the FJC has gone from $10/head S/L to $15/head AFF. I try not to teach too much, esp. on sunny days. I'd like to see at least $40 for the first student, $20 for the next two, then $15 a person would be okay.

I see. Dry or wet, brining does great with turkeys. What kind of wood did you use for smoking? -

Nice job. We actually brine, then smoke. You may want to try that once or twice. I use apple and cherry wood, esp. for Poultry. We used hickory one time and the whole bird tasted like a giant "pressed Turkey ham"! -
I know a few (very few, thankfully) skydivers more interested in looking cool than are interested in skydiving well. I give them a wide berth.
