  1. Great pics and it looks like you had some good weather too. We've only visited Paris once but really want to get back there. New Year's Eve in Paris has a certain ring to it.
  2. Sometimes I wonder if some societies are like that because the meek and quiet starve. I visited there and found that it's not like the US, but they somehow seem to make it work. I certainly understand their bizarre driving habits much better.
  3. I've heard these kind of stories before. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
  4. Remembering names and faces is something I've always been poor at and work at constantly. I've got my name embroidered on my rig, my jumpsuit and painted on my helmet. Plus it's about as common of a name as you can get. Plus, being very happily married for 30 years, I tend to forget attractive women's names as quickly as I can.
  5. Sounds like a very busy, active life.
  6. As a Seahawk fan, I've seen some a bad call cost us a Superbowl win. That's life. And I would like to see the referee have to hold a press conference and apologize for his incompetence. Racism? Was the coach black and the ref white? Did it make a difference? I hope not.
  7. They can have the ones off my parachutes.
  8. You know, I kind of always pegged you as a slacker! Ha, you're not the first pretty woman to insult me. Get in line.
  9. Well, last year I took a bike spill, perfectly sober, the day before Thanksgiving and two days before moving from our old house to our new house. Broke my left collar bone and collapsed a lung, making staying in the hospital overnight a necessity. I talked my way out of there Thanksgiving night to make it home for a late dinner with about 20 guests. The next day, still in a sling, I directed traffic while friends and family helped us move. Man, I felt like a slacker. Five years ago, in my back yard, perfectly sober, I attempted to walk down the kids' slide on the big toy in the backyard. I slipped and fell on my right elbow, tearing my rotator cuff. Surgery and 8 months of rehab ensued before I was cleared to jump again. Three years ago, I tore up my left rotator cuff. Christmas found me, once again, in a sling after surgery and 6 months rehab before I could jump again. So . . . I've been in a sling for 3 of the last 6 Christmases. It was starting to be a habit.
  10. You're still single? I can't believe some skydiver boy hasn't tried to tackle you yet.
  11. Hey, it's better than sleeping alone.
  12. Our DZ's motto? "If you have the money, you're under 220."
  13. Looking at the double chin on the passenger I think I know why the canopy ripped in half.
  14. Wow, thank you. And I didn't get you anything. Spent the day with the gorgeous Vskydiver, first in the wind tunnel, then hiking, then went to the movies. Super nice Christmas.
  15. Could be. I'm not a rigger or canopy piloting expert, but I know it takes less to stall a canopy using the rear risers than it does using the toggles. I'm glad you had plenty of altitude.
  16. Of all the crimes committed in the world, that probably is the funniest I've seen in a while. Fill in the blanks. . . A ______ and his ________ are soon ________ . Merry Christmas, everyone.
  17. For years I operated on cash and never used credit until my mid-twenties and was okay. Today's world is definitely different, with your credit score affecting your ability to rent an apartment, get car insurance cheaply, and certainly ever finance a home or get a decent auto loan rate. It's a sad fact that it's become a major metric for many things. Very true, to a certain extent. One factor is how long you've had certain accounts open. Another is your debt-to-available credit ratio. But yes, quiet and calm with no new request should raise your score over time. There is no privacy anymore.
  18. Great advice in the top paragraph. Use your cards as a tool to help you, not as an anchor to drag you down. I had all of our kids get CC's as young as they could, to start building credit. We put everything on CCs, then have them automatically paid in full each month. I can go on vacation for a month and not worry about a single bill.
  19. Another opinion on that is to pay off all debt, even to the point of using your "emergency fund". If a true emergency does arise before you rebuild your cash supply, you can use a credit card to cover it. It would better than having a cash reserve and still carrying high interest debt. Paying small to large? Yes, I can see the psychological advantage. But higher interest first makes more mathematical sense, as I'm sure you understand. Sometimes it makes sense to carry debt, if the rate is low enough. A year and a half ago, my daughter bought a brand new Honda Civic. I went to the dealer to cosign. She was planning to pay $4K down, financing the rest over 5 years. But they offered financing at .9% . I told her that with the money that cheap, to finance the whole thing, no money down. Later, when she was jobless for 2 months, she had a great cash reserve to fall back on and continue to easily make her payments.
  20. ALWAYS pay off high interest rate debt as soon as you're able, before anything else. Even with the stock market doing 12%+ this year, 22% interest rates on cards and other debts will kill you. Pay off first before funding IRAs, etc. Tax time? That's 4 months away. Enjoy being out of debt, save what you can, and borrow what money you MAY need for taxes when it happens. And try to get the best rate when you do. Good luck.
