  1. Frequent flier miles for the tickets? Often very low rates for last minute travel. Ride back to the airport? Heck, you'll have 3 days to make that arrangement. Should be at least a couple of boogiers that are heading to the airport on the last day. Sleeping arrangements? Well, are you male or female? Have you checked into bunkhouse accommodations?
  2. You are genius, Sir. Yes, that clear plastic like you make table cloth covers from. It was hell to work with.
  3. You know, she made a clear jumpsuit for another woman once. She used to wear it at LP with nothing else on underneath.
  4. Don't tease him. He bites. Can't think of anyone here I'd be afraid to meet. Never been threatened or freaked out by anyone, but then, I avoid SC most of the time. Sorry you've met some psycho PM'r. I'm sure just about every woman on here has had to say "NO!" at least once or twice.
  5. Mine don't involve turtle wax. Other than that I'm sure they're pretty similar.
  6. Ahh, thanks for the new factoid.. . Exactly.
  7. You and I have both worked for what we have, but have been lucky enough to have not had fate take it all away. Many very decent people are not so lucky. Fate has stripped them of practically everything. Thanks for such a great tale of compassion and not judging. I wish I could have been there with you to help fill the tank and help them on their way. I'll try to keep an more open mind in the future.
  8. If you guys think I'm telling you about THOSE dreams . . .
  9. My pigeon hole came up as a solid ENTJ. We used to all laugh about the Psych Eval test for air traffic control. Some of the questions seemed pretty obtuse to us. Not having taken any psych classes in college, I had little idea what they were after, but I must have given enough of the "correct" responses. Must have been my preference of thinking over feeling.
  10. Sorry about your loss, and your friend losing her life. I hope the dog owners responsible for this are held accountable. Thank you for doing what you do. I've only done a little here and there for the homeless. You've really stepped up to the plate.
  11. This is the scenario I was thinking of too. You could have the character specifically using a rig with a larger main, more docile handling and reserve canopy than he usually jumps, just because of the accuracy and landing requirements. Rooftop landing? Very plausible, been done plenty. Balcony landing? It better be a big penthouse style balcony with no roof or floor above it. Make sure your jumper checks the winds and has planned his direction of approach accordingly. Realize that if his main malfunctions and he has to use and land his reserve on the balcony (always a possibility) his plan B would be to ground launch or TARD off the balcony, definitely sketchy. Depending on your choice of jump planes (based on an earlier poster's description of mission requirements and world wide availability), we can tell you the most likely way to exit, what preparations need to be made and what the sensations and altitudes would be. Some of the details would be having your guy doing his "checks of three on jumprun, checking each of his three handles in order [main deployment, main cutaway and reserve deployment handles], checking the 3 harness connections, 2 leg straps and the chest strap, and inspecting the harness 3-rings one last time before exiting." Moving carefully in the aircraft, protecting his handles, in order to not snag a ripcord handle in the dark. One last glance at the altimeter before exit too, if he's getting out low, mentally noting how many seconds of freefall he's planning. These are details that all jumpers will recognize. After you write you scene, any one of us would be glad to read it to spot any obvious gaffes.
  12. Wow, I knew it took a LOT of energy to get rid of orbital inclination. Wish I knew the orbital mechanics involved to translate that altitude to inclination change. Interesting. Now I have a new subject to look up. Too bad my calculus sucks. .
  13. Married is great. Notice they all said EX-wives. . . That's probably a good description of just about every ex-wife.
  14. Yep, the ground loop is definitely the Cadillac of systems, plenty of heat available in a very stable environment year round. A coworker had that done on his 5 acre property with 300' of trenching. Don't know if my 1/4 acre suburban lot would support that. Also, with gas available, the cost payback schedule could be many, many decades. Don't know if I'll be here that long. I'll have to crunch some numbers, but regular A/C and gas heat might be my best solution. K.I.S.S.
  15. "Did you girls know you can go around the world in a Piper Arrow?"
  16. Heat pumps are getting popular up here in the Seattle Pacific NW, owing to our mild climate. I'm planning to get AC in our new house, 2000 sq. ft. rambler, and was wondering if I should drop the extra dough for a heat pump. Sounds like just going with AC and keeping the gas heat might be the smart move?
  17. This mission is the second Falcon 9 launch to a geosynchronous transfer orbit, targeting a 295 x 90,000 km orbit at 22.5 degrees inclination. Not sure what the 90,000 km dimension means. I can imagine it might be in a highly elliptical orbit pending geostationary insertion, but that's only about 38,000 km up. Can anyone translate for me?
  18. Do you think he was a mile high when the engine quit?
  19. Too bad it wasn't "wreckless". I think you meant "reckless." Sorry, I just enjoyed the irony of that one too much. In a case like that, I'm really glad the copilot survived. Too many right seaters have been wrongly killed by A$$hats sitting in the left seat.
  20. As I understand them, heat pumps are less efficient when the outside temps drop too low. I thought that all the systems had back up heating coils that were used to warm the inside air during those conditions. Maybe take your space heaters and distribute to them to the coldest rooms.
  21. Nothing wrong with having standards. As the father of 3 girls, I like that.
  22. That is mind boggling. I would have bet any amount of money that was unsurvivable. Me too. Looks like a buzz job gone bad. Lots of energy, gear up, but could have used a more stabilized approach. Wingloading, anyone?
