see attachement taken from wing suit forum, even though we plan on everything going right, it can go wrong. this skydiver did not make contact, but he could've. an AAD would have made a difference IF he were to have struck the aircraft. (theoretically) Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

the thing that has always struck me is when it comes time for container selection, we think little about the costs, if it has all the options we want, and it looks kewel, the same with our main canopies, if it's what we want, and the colors are kewel, costs is generally no object. BUT since we have to have a container, and a canopy to skydive, and DON'T have to have an AAD, well that's a little different. every skydiver i've talked to, save a couple said they didn't fly a cypress because they costs too much, and they couldn't afford them, yet they drink gallons of beer, and smoke packs of ciggarettes a day. you can bet your ass if the dzo's and the bod of uspa decided they had to have them to skydive, i just bet there would be a lot of people "finding money" for an AAD. i'm not advocating AAD's, i'm merely trying to make a point to say for criminies sake, don't use the lame excuse you can't afford one. thoughts for the wise, and mortal. why does the top 50 posters come back with an "error occured during this action?" when checking to see who the top 50 poster's are? Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

**The best is when men don't even realize they are doing this!!!!** Anne: men don't do this, ya'll just like to think we are....right?

Justin: excellent post. sorry about your friend. i, to have lost a friend due to the same thing, it hurts. sad, but true, we learn from others mistakes, but we have to care enough to step on each other's toes sometimes to make a point. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

laughter is good medicine! (according to reader's digest) but i'd be careful about utilizing a few of those! some people don't have such good humor all the time! Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

i'd go with the 24" zp, it's going to do what it has to, so why change? i know you said it was based on atair's specs, (so mirage says) but haven't heard from them yet, i'd wait and call dan. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

Kevin: since you asked..............why associate death with our sport? other than that, kewel tat! but i'm sure we all get reminded of our mortality every successful sky dive.

**There is a time to not hook it and just land as safely as possible. learning when not to hook a canopy is the most important skill to learn for hook turners.** this is one of the most intelligent statements i've heard in a long time, thanks william. i had a low time jumper ask me at the dz just this past weekend how to initiate a front riser manuever, i knew he was a low timer, and thus asked him his jump numbers, he advised. i simply refused to tell him, and told him just that way. now, i want to make it clear that i am NOT a "swoop" expert, or a "novice" even, but i can pull them off, but not good enough to give advice to someone else, so i figured to tell someone in his position to wait until at least 150-200 jumps before trying anything like that. the bad thing about this is, when a low time jumper sees the "swoopers" doing the 180 snaps/dives/surfs, they make visual observation(s) and then try to pull them off without further consultation with a LEARNED colleague. always seek advice before trying these canopy flying teqniques yourself, i did. it all reverts back to "murphy's law" if it can happen, it more than likely will. i'm not saying "plan for failure" but always have a backup plan. i'm glad this turned out the way it did, and no one was hurt. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"

it's sad but true, the reason they aren't employed on the dz's is because of attrition, expense, and liability. the "standard" stack of papers we fill out do not include utilization of defibrilization devices. thus they become more of a liability, than an asset. although, i'm certainly not opposed to having an EMT paramedic on the scene during events, just like football, nascar, etc............... damned engineers!

i would have proposed doing another tandem jump, with video, and stills at the videot's expense, simple enough. when you hire a service, and they do not perform it, this can certainly cause any "reasonable" dzo to acknowledge you request, and comply with your request. Richard "Gravity Is My Friend"
